  • Large beautiful tablet
Great tablet with high processing ability. Very large screen, about the size of a medium laptop screen.

  • An actual UPDATE to the hardware S tablet (Updated Review)
[UPDATE VERSION 0.9] // There has been some information I (accidentally) have left out, as well as new information that I wish to include that will be added to the end of the review, including DEX mode runs at 1080p/120fps! AND GameCube & Wii original controller plus 4K upscale support. // I find it surprsing that there are currently no reviews yet for the Ultra model of the S10. I traded in my S9 Ultra for the 10 Ultra for an amazing and excellent price. I am also coming off an S7+ the past couple of years which was also upgraded to the S9. Here's the thing I would like to start off with the S10 that seemingly has yet to be mentioned, the GPU and CPU are not snapdragon anymore! So as I was pondering the thought of the upgrade offered by Samsung, I decided to do some research. I found that the architecture is vastly different from all the previous models. Firstly i found no evidence of a Snapdragon processor. Apparently this new processor uses an even more efficient processing technique that increases power and decreases battery consumption. As I had taken this tablet on a trip recently I found this to be true. I used the tablet for a very long time without battery charging and it held for such a long time, much longer than the S9U. Even when connected via wifi hotspot to my iPhone the battery percentage held longer than what I used from the S9U. Now, my uses for the tablets will most likely be different from the common user. My main experience is not only typing, but Retro Gaming. I have a glowng review for the S9U model here on Amazon and I have to say, this S10U VASTLY out performs that tablet by miles. So why isn't Samsung advertrising this upgrade? At least, from what I have seen. Yes, they have their usual page on thier website but it took me researching to know and understand the difference. I used these tablets because I love retro gaming and I wanted not only an all in one device (did not want to be held down by a pc or my heavy laptop) but I also wanted the nice OLED screen to play games meant for infinite black tv's, CRTs. I also love connected it and using DEX, which is amazing but still has its share of flaws. My use was every system up to Dreamcast. I have a Dreamcast and many games but found Redream such a breeze to use. I have a GCN, ps2 and og XBOX all connected so i wasn't concerned. I did however wanted to play a few GameCube games I don't own. The S7+ was incapable of keeping up with that generation of gaming and would always stutter, quit and shutdown on Dolphin. The S9U faired a little bit better, it would actually play the games but only at Native resolution. After awhile the tablet would quickly start to stutter then close the app. Whether it was the heat or the CPU not able to keep up, either way I was unable to enjoy for periods. Even Wii would do the same. And ps2 was worse. I tried playing NFL 2k5 on ps2 but the tablet at native resolution couldn't keep up. Always be weary of Youtubers, they review well early on for that small period they use it. But REAL usage overtime shows otherwise. The S10U, how does it fair? Well, I am happy to report as previously mentioned, excelling at everything the previous models could not. i am really happy with this tablet. GameCube games have yet to stutter at above native resolution, as I have it set to 720p (dont really need going beyond that as gamecube games always looked great to me). It looks clean at 720p. I was able to play games I couldn't otherwise. I own Mario Kart DD on GCN. I decided to play it again on the tablet just to see and happily yes, it ran flawlessly with ZERO stutter WHILE I was also making the tablet multitask split screen with Youtube on the side. I love watching my music videos and performances or watching old gaming shows (Tech TV/G4) that I grew up with as I game with the classics (how old am I now that ps2 and ps3 can be considered Retro, aww). The tablet never really got that hot either. I was doing most of the gaming connected to tv, but as soon as I stopped I would check the heat on tablet and it was perfectly fine. I am so happy I can go back to my games again on here from that generation. The tablet for drawing is great. I find that is has more features than my iPad had. And by had I mean it has been awhile since I have messed with drawing on my iPad Air. This tablet does pretty much anything you would like to do including converting your drawing into AI form which was pretty neat. I am a terrible drawer so it was fun to see what the AI would see. My neice is an excellent artist and draws beyond anything I could ever imagine, to see her drawings come to life was such a treat. She managed to put her phone down and spend her time continously drawing on my tablet which was beautiful to see. I think if you are hoping to get your kids off of the repetitive nature that Shorts and the like have brought upon the new generation of kids, and you notice their artistc skills in any way, this tablet would do wonders for them. But a cheaper version, maybe not the Ultra so much because of the price. And compared to the iPad Pro. I am not sure. I am into the Apple ecosystem more as this tablet is the only Android device I use daily. I would say I use the Android device more than my Apple stuff, but if only because I am able to actually have this Ultra device and do gaming and other things on it via DEX mode. I have read that the iPad Pros get significantly brighter. I used this tablet during the day in the car ride, with sun setting as well blasting through the windows and never felt like it wasn't bright enough. I never had to go more than half the brightness level in sun. When at home I have Extra Dim on and use even less brightness level. So I can't say which is preferable vs iPad. I do know that my iPad Air gen 4 (2020 model I believe, maybe 21) was even more powerful than all of the tablets inlcuding the S9U I had. The problem was the closed eco system for retro gaming, and lack of a good on tv screen UI management like DEX has which basically looks closer to Windows and both mouse and multitask-friendly. Again, I may be in the minority here but I wanted to share the experience for others who may also want to see and learn. And now that Retroarch and PPSSPP are on iOS is a little too late for me. The fact that Samsung keeps offering great deals on upgrades keeps me in the ecosystem for tablets. Especially moreso now that the APU is different. So much so that the gaming apps DO NOT RUN on Vulcan. They must be set to OpenGL. Using Vulcan makes GameCube games dark and missing assets. OpenGL fixes everything. Which was another sign it wasn't using SnapDragon. I much prefer this new route Samsung is taking. Overall, with better battery performance, brighter screen and faster CPU/GPU and upgraded APU the Galaxy Tab S10 Ultra (all S10 line use the same chipsets) is an excellent and significant welcome upgrade to their Tab S line. While there are some flaws, Remote Play from ps5 being a big one that will sometimes just get stuck, or Youtube changing queue within a playlist as its playing well force quit the app (that is more of an Andriod or most likely DEX mode problem), everything else has been perfectly fine. The S10U is going to be my most used device, by far, and I can not wait to see what Samsung has in store in the future for this line of tablets. So WHY isn't Samsung blasting this and their new chipset everywhere?? HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! P.S. Spectrum TV does not run in DEX mode. But will run within the tablet screen while DEX mode is on tv. Used it for watching sports. However ESPN, Fan sports duel and TNT and the like will all run in DEX mode, fortunately. Spectrum tv seems to be the only one like this. Thank you for reading this far!! [Updated 1.0] As mentioned in my first edit, while running the S10U in DEX Mode the display on tv will switch to 1080p at 120fps. All previous versions have limit 60fps. For whatever reason dex can never run at 4k on my LG C1 unless its on tablet mirror mode. However, in all previous tablets while this is set to tablet mirror at 4k the tablet is unusable. The lag is too much even in Game mode. In dex mode it stays 1080p and the only other option available is 900p. Which personally is fine. I do not need 4K, and as I use youtube the most for streaming as I play spltscreen, Youtube does enable 4K for videos that support it and look great. The tablet mirror mode for the native 4K feels much better than previous tablets but its still not there yet and dex is much a preferable display mode for TV's. [For Emulation: resolution, surprsing twists and certain issues] As I previously mentioned, the emulation has been excellent overall. There has been a few issues I've ran into and I do not know what exactly is going on, or if it is just the state of Emulation issues. So the surpringly great twist, this tablet is capable of 4K! On last years model I couldn't even get more than twice the resolution without issue. GameCube has been THE BEST, by far. PSO Episode 1 and 2 was able to run full 4k with 12x filtering perfectly fine. I chose to keep it at 1080p with 4x since I play for long periods and I don't wish to risk overheating IF it does arise. The Simpsons Road Rage with its open world driving and many npc's also runs fine at higher res. Playstation 2 is also still running great. I own Xenosaga trilogy physically but decided to replay it here. So far, no issues and I am about 25ish hours in. I have read issues with the game from message boards from years past, and here, fortunately, zero issues. The only thing is the game does take a long while to load, about 10 seconds (feels like it adds up) whenever the game loads a cutscene. When it switches to FMV its quick, and the FMV cant upscale so it looks very low quality compared to the upscaled game. As the game switches to in game engine, it takes about 7 to 10 seconds. And if you've played the game before you know Xenosaga is full of cutscenes. Fun cutscenes though I did enjoy watching them play out again. TO THE BAD NEWS-Wii. Wii is hit and miss. All the Wii-Ware (so far Ive played) play perfectly fine,as My Life As A Dark Lord was a favorite of mine on the Wii. Never had the chance to get the dlc but on Dolphin was able to play it. On S7+ and S9U the game could not play long until the app eventually would quit, again as i have mentioned on here its perfect. Same for resolution upscaling. For Wii games, its been hit and miss and I dont know why. 007 game does not run well, it lags. No matter what I do the game runs at 10fps. Considering in the first level its enclosed this made no sense. ON THE OTHER HAND game I read was notorious for running bad on Dolphin and PC's, The Last Story, ran perfectly fine on S10U! How? I almost did not replay it here because I was reading through forums that could not get it to run. I own it physically too and played it years back but wanted to replay it again. Now, I havent played alot of it mind you, but the first part ran perfectly fine. The Simpsons game doesnt run on ps2, runs a little better but often dips in fps on Wii. Meanwhile Road Rage ran with no problems. The GPU clearly has no issues, so I wonder if its a CPU lmitation but some games have me scratching my head. I suppose it is what it is with emulation. [IMPORTANT CONTROLLER UPDATE] The Wiimote works. I have it running from Dolphin bar. YOU MUST RESYNC VIA DOLPHIN IN (ANY) GAME IN ORDER TO GET IT TO WORK. Otherwise you'll get a headache and almost send it back as I almost did. On my lasst attempt before I threw the dolhpin bar back in the box I just started a game, opened the left side settings UI and hit the resync wiimote option and now it always connects first try. Theres also other cool options outside of dolphin like using the wiimote as an actual remote for videos and volume adjuster (via Dolhpin Bar). GAMECUBE CONTROLLERS WORK! I read from other forums that the official Nintendo Wii U adapter does not work and I am here to say IT DOES for me! I couldnt get my 3rd party adapter to work that I bought for the Switch (it has a Switch button if yours does), that did not work. Decided to go ahead and try my official Wii U adapter, another headache saved. I connected one end to a power usb adapter and the other to my anker usb hub and it popped up "WUP" enable question click okay or cancel. This message will pop up everytime you use it. The GameCube and Wii games that support it like MK will enable vibration! Otherwise, any other controller you use will not have vibration on android. Thank you again, I will come back to edit if anything else pops up I feel someone may have interest in as this is still pretty niche. ... show more
