I freaking love this phone. That should be enough for a review, but Amazon wants me to carry on... I made a mistake when I got my first smartphone years ago. A Galaxy A03s. It was offered for free when I opened a new account at T-Mobile. It only had 32GB of storage. At the time, I felt that would be just fine. I was naive. I didn't know how fast phones fill-up. When people spoke of bloatware, I thought they were just talking about junk food or something stupid like that. I didn't know they were talking about pre-installed apps on your phone that you couldn't delete. I also didn't know that a time was coming when virtually everything that you purchase would require a phone app to run it, or that these apps would be so needlessly huge. Well, I made do with that older A03s for a few years, but it just got more and more aggravating, with the lack of free space causing serious performance issues. I really needed to upgrade. I couldn't put it off any longer. So last month I jumped down that rabbit hole of researching the latest phones, reading reviews, being confused by pricing on various sites, etc. When asking my friends for recommendations on much storage space I should get for my new phone, they were telling me to get at least 1TB. Or "as much as you can." I dunno. Do I need that much? Sure, I take pictures off and on, but I routinely transfer them to my desktop computer, and I think that might be the reason my friends need so much storage space. It seems like 128GB is a lot of space (especially compared to the 32GB that my old phone had), but I felt 256GB would be much better in the long run. It seems to be a good size, especially as I mainly only use my phone at work during my breaks, or when I'm waiting for a haircut or something. Eventually I turned to Google's AI to help me. Even that was a long process. We went round and round comparing various phones. My criteria was price (not dirty cheap, but not expensive either), and at least 256GB storage space. Looked at the A55 at first, but it didn't have an unlocked model for the US. Moved on to the A35, but it seemed to only come in a 128GB size. Moved further down to the A25, but the only listings I could find had it for sale for over $1,000. And it was an entry-level phone. Google's AI explained that this was likely a "placeholder price," something done by some online retailers when stock runs low, and told me the normal price should be around $250 to $275. But the only ones I could find for that lower price were for the unlocked "international versions," which don't play nice with my carrier T-mobile. While searching Amazon, I saw they were offering this Galaxy A57 for $510. It seemed legit. And it claimed to be an unlocked US version with 256GB of memory/storage. I checked the model number with Google's AI to ensure it was on the up and up (it was), and all the reviews I read elsewhere seemed to praise this model. I originally assumed that all the phones in the Galaxy "A series" were budget, entry-level devices. But everyone seems to list the A57 as being "mid-range" with "near-flagship features." Some even say the A57 is "a premium mid-range smartphone" that "sits at the top of Samsung's current A-series lineup." In any case, everyone seemed to agree that the A57 is very similar to the more expensive flagship models, but costs a lot less. $510 wasn't all that much more than I was looking to spend, and if the phone was as good as everyone said, I felt it'd be worth it, so I went ahead and bought this A57. There was a slight hitch of the phone not being delivered in the time frame it was promised. When I was looking at the listing, I was signed-in to Amazon and it knew my address, and it said it would arrive in 6 days. It was just past midnight on Aug 26, and it said I'd receive this phone by Sept 1st. But then after I actually made the purchase, that date changed to Sept 3rd for seemingly no reason. For the next few days, out of curiosity, I checked this product description page, and it kept telling people that the phone would arrive on Sept 1st if they bought it right then. I was thinking of maybe cancelling my order and ordering it again to see if I'd get it faster, but quickly forgot about it. As I said, that was the only hitch with my purchase. When it arrived, it was, indeed, a fantastic phone. I mean, keep in mind that this was only my 2nd phone, and that my first phone was a dinky A03s with only 32GB of memory, so I suppose any phone would have seemed amazing compared to that. In any case, the difference was amazing to me. On my old phone, I was used to waiting a long time for apps to load. But on the A57, apps seem to open instantaneously, as if they were simply "already on and hidden" instead of being turned-on for the first time. Truly impressive! So very high marks for the A57's responsiveness. I immediately re-downloaded all the old apps (that I was previously forced to exorcize from my old A03s) and even added a bunch of new apps on top of that. And after all that, seeing that my storage is only 1/3 full makes me a very happy boy. This phone is lightweight and thin. Not the thinnest or lightest Galaxy phone, but the thinnest and lightest among the Galaxy A-series right now. The battery is the same as that on my previous Galaxy phone (both 5000 mAh), but it doesn't seem to drain as quickly. I thought it might be due to the age of my old phone, but I did notice some other reviews which also mentioned how happy they were with the battery's performance. The A57 has the ability to "fast charge" (up to 60% in 30 min), but I don't use this feature. Not because I'd rather not buy a new wall charger for $40, but more that I'm fine with charging at the regular slow speed. I keep my phone in a wallet-type case, and that might cause the faster charging to get throttled due to the insulation of the case. And I rarely use my phone at home, so it has plenty of time to sit around and slowly suck-up power at it's leisure. Besides, I kinda have the feeling that a slower charge is easier on the battery and might mean a longer-lasting battery in the long run. But I honestly don't know for sure. My friend (Google's AI) tells me that this isn't the case. But what does it know? All it has is the shared knowledge from all of human history, while I rely on my gut feelings and preconceived notions formed mostly by hearsay and rumors. lol Not being in the market for a fast charger, I don't know the prices, but there seems to be very little difference in speeds between the 45W charger and the 25W charger. They both take around 70 minutes to charge a phone from 0% to 100%. The main difference is for the "fast charging" burst (0% to 50%), where the 45W charger takes 20 minutes and the 25W charger takes 30 minutes. Doesn't seem worth the extra cost to me (if there is any extra cost between a 45W charger vs a 25W charger). My wall outlet has a USB plug which gives me somewhere under 15W (just guessing) which takes 130 minutes to charge from 0% to 100%. I'm fine with that, since my phone rarely fully discharges, and is set to only charge up to 85%, anyway. Still, it's nice to know that I can cut my charging time by half if I ever need to. If I ever change my mind. I haven't really used the camera yet, but the reviews I've seen say it's fantastic. I own a cat, so you'd think I'd have 5,000 new pics of it by now. Oh well. I'll get to it. The A57 is made to better handle water and dust than any of the previous phones in the A-series, and Samsung promises full support (for upgrades and security updates, etc) at least up to 2032. Bless their little hearts. I recommend watching some of the "tips & tricks" videos on YouTube regarding this phone. There's lots of them, and they all seem to sing the same praises about this phone as I have been doing. Plus you'll find out various workarounds to 'unlock' some of the hidden features (which are offered 'un-hidden' on the more expensive Galaxy phones). One of my favorite features might seem lame to you, but when I'm outside, wearing my polarized dark glasses, I can still clearly see the A57's screen perfectly! With my old A03s, I could only do this with the screen in portrait mode. But now I can see the screen clearly in both portrait and landscape modes while wearing polarized lenses. That's a great surprise for me, as I mainly use my phone outside when I'm at work! Not sure if all phones are friendly to polarized lenses these days or not. I don't really see that mentioned in the descriptions. Anyway, that's my review. Your needs may differ. But I'm just sad that I didn't buy this phone months ago, when it first came out. After using an older phone for many years, I was extremely happy with the upgrade when I purchased the Samsung Galaxy A57 5G. It is faster, works with the latest apps and has a larger screen. I am conflicted about the screen because I liked the compact feel of the old phone, which fit in my shirt pocket or pants pocket easily, but the large screen is nice, too, especially with my problems with close-up vision these days. Even though this is middle of the line I have been satisfied. Since I don't use a bunch of apps it is great, but be aware; if you need memory, this phone doesn't have a space for an SD card. Fill up memory of phone and you are out of memory.

After buying an A54 and having a great experience with it I bought the A57. First thing, the A57 is thinner. A lot thinner. I listen to music while working using the built in speakers, top and bottom of the phone. It works great. The battery lasts longer than the A54. I went with the 256gb storage option. So far so good.
