  • Great new TV for my Master Bedroom
Size: 43 -Inch Style: TV Only
First the unexpected - I ordered a "recertified QN90A" from the Amazon warehouse and 1/2 the screen did not work. So, I returned it to Amazon and ordered a brand new QN90A through Amazon fulfilled by Beach Camera. To my surprise the new TV arrived and was a QN90B. I asked Beach Camera about this and they sent me the invoice showing Amazon had them send me a QN90B. From what I had read on the internet the QN90A has the better picture but what the heck I would at least setup and test this version. BTW the reason I wanted this specific TV brand/model is for the TV center stand since it would sit in a bay window area perfectly. Thus, having feet at the end of the TV like all models seem to have these days was not an option for me. Now to the TV: The picture is absolutely beautiful but not quite as good as an OLD TV (which costs quite a bit more) so that is okay by me and far better quality than any other TV in my house. It did take me a bit of time to dial in the picture to my liking but now it is pretty much perfect. The TV is extremely fast to turn on and the SMART aspect has worked flawlessly for Amazon Prime, YouTube, etc... applications. Remote control is simple and I really like as I pretty much hate remotes with so many buttons you have to look at the remote to find the correct buttons. With this remote I can easily operate it by feel alone in the dark which is nice. I also discovered the buttons can have multiple abilities (ie the volume button when pressed will mute and the channel button when pressed will bring up the channel guide). Basically just a smart use to keep things clean and simple for operation and layout. The stand is probably as heavy as the TV and works great to know the TV will not fall over - nice quality. Physical setup was a breeze and took maybe 15mins and the OTA channel scan worked as expected. What I did not expect was the Samsung free channels (there must be 100) - I may just turn them off as I can't stand commercials so i rarely watch broadcast TV. Thus far I have zero complaints, it was a really good deal, works for my needs, and I would recommend this TV ... show more

  • An awesome TV! Love it!
Size: 43 -Inch Style: TV Only
First, I have to admit I did something really dumb... I actually ordered two of these by mistake! BUT... it worked out great. I was replacing an old set in a bedroom that had suddenly developed some strange, multi-colored vertical lines on the screen that came and went at will. I had a 40 inch set in my family room that was still working, but it couldn't do 4K. The new sets, far and away, blow away the picture quality on the other two sets, both of which are also Samsung. I might add the set that went bad was already 10 years old. Set-up of the new sets was pretty straightforward. I had no problem connecting the HDMI cables, as one reviewer had. I connected an Xfinity X1 cable box, along with a Sony UBV-700 Blu-ray player, to the family room set, Everything worked flawlessly, right from the get-go. The remote control for the TV took a bit of getting used to, but after playing with it a bit, I got the hang of it. The picture, although very good at first, got better and better, the more I used the sets. Colors are bright and natural. Thanks to local dimming, the blacks are truly black, and there's absolutely none of the blooming others have reported. There are features on this set I probably won't use, but knowing they're there, should I change my mind, as reassuring. My only complaint, and it's minor at this point, is that the set doesn't support NextGen TV without adding an external tuner. When stations become active in my area, I will be pursuing it. But the bottom line is that I'm very happy with my choice of this TV. That's my story, and I'm sticking to it! One last thing... this TV is NextGen TV equipped. The ATSC 3.0 tuner, for this new OTA standard, is included. This makes this TV futureproof! ... show more

  • Great TV, but Some Issues
Size: 50 -Inch Style: TV Only
This TV gets remarkably bright and it's just a delight for HDR gaming, but it has some issues. First: Quality control. My panel had some pretty bad dirty screen effect, which could be distracting on certain content. Even more egregious, my panel had what looked like either a scratch or a misapplication of the wide-angle film in the center left of the panel. This wasn't too noticeable unless it was dark, but for something this expensive it really isn't reasonable. This may had been preventable, but Samsung doesn't use a removable protective film on this display for some reason. Second: A lot of people say it's OLED-like but... it's really not. Comparing this to and OLED is like comparing milk and dark chocolate. They're familiar, but when the experience is *clearly* different. That isn't to say this experience is bad at all! OLEDs have significantly better picture quality when the scene is 50%+ dark and the content is mastered to around 1000 nits. And the black levels are just not comparable, especially with small specular highlights in the scene: it almost looks like you could reach out and touch them. But they're best in a darker room and for those darker scenes. This? It is just a beast for bright scenes and has incredible depth when large parts of the screen are bathed in bright light. Daylight scenes have even more contrast and depth than an OLED at times! Not to mention that reflections and glare tremble before the 600 nit full-field brightness. The leaving-the-vault scene of Fallout 3 and 4 hit different when you physically have to squint. It made me genuinely giddy when it happened. It made my LG C1 feel flat, which is just an absolutely amazing accomplishment. I imagine there are some very proud engineers. But, it's not perfect. Dark scenes can be plain ugly when the blooming gets bad. And small specular highlights are left quite dim when it tries to avoid blooming, leading to amazing scenes like the light shafts coming through forest trees looking... gray. And subtitles? Gray if it's dark. The stars in content like Star Wars can make the screen look blotchy. And that brings me to the worst part: gaming. It's such a crying shame about this TV, Samsung got so much right and I almost prefer it to an OLED with it's brightness and lack of burn-in potential. But then you turn on game-mode and the entire image is just plain ruined. Local dimming resolution seems to halve, all the blacks are risen significantly, and the processor is dialed back so hard it can take up to a full second for the miniLED to respond to changes in brightness - making moving highlights look dim while the dark space behind them is bright gray. It's incredibly distracting. So, to summarize: It's fantastic depending on your use case. 1. Horror/Space movies? OLED. 2. Sports/Action games? Something like the X95J or QN90B. 3. Horror/Space games? OLED. 4. Sports/Action TV? This thing is an enormous value and at a way better price than it's younger B-variant sibling. 5. Anything else? It depends if you prefer to see more depth in the image or more spectacular brights in the image. If you don't have an OLED already, I'd lean towards this and get OLED in another half decade when it's been perfected and has the same brightness level. Just make sure you inspect your panel for defects before the 30-day return window! ... show more
