  • Great for the money if you change the mic
style: Lavalier Configuration: XPD2
I bought this to do some easy web videos via my iPhone. I work in broadcast engineering for a career, but this application is just for fun. I did not want to spend a lot of money but I wanted it to sound decent. This unit is the ticket, with a few caveats- 1) the stock mic isn’t that great. The iPhone built in mic sounds much better. I found that if you purchase the JK MIC-J 044 Lapel Microphone Lavalier Microphone (Amazon), the quality is drastically improved and almost perfect. The mic is $30 (BTW, in the broadcast world, all of this is very cheap. $1500+ is typical for pro event wireless mics). 2) this uses the license-free 2.4 GHz band, the same band that your wifi and Bluetooth devices use. As a result, if you go far away from the receiver or use this say in a crowded venue, you won’t be able to go far without hearing some audio hits. If you are close to the receiver (within 15’) or in an open area that is not super packed, you’ll be fine. Finally, if you’re using this with an iPhone, you’ll need an Apple lightning to USB adapter. Buy the genuine Apple. Chinese knockoffs are problematic. ... show more

  • Drop out
style: Lavalier Configuration: XPD1
I am a lecturer and purchased this system so I could record my lectures. I have been using a fixed microphone on the podium, but I wanted to be able to move about the stage. I tested the system in an empty auditorium so I could be sure that the quality was good from all over the stage. I was very pleased with the quality. But recordings made during my lectures when the room is full, have drop outs like you might get with a poor cell phone connection. This occurs even when I am only 20 feet or so from the USB. I suspect it is interference from all of the cell phones and laptops in the room. It uses the 2.4 GHz band, which is undoubtedly full of activity when there are a lot of connected devices. I was worried this might be the case before I made this purchase, and so am resigned to it. I can imagine that it works perfectly in different environments and in different applications where interference isn't an issue. ... show more

  • Superb mic and audio quality
style: Lavalier Configuration: XPD2
I use this mic to enhance the audio on my livestream videos. I do online livestream fitness videos and the sound is crisp, loud and clear. It works very well and my clients even commented on how great it all sounds. Super easy to connect - plug and play - simply plug in the USB into your computer, turn on the mic box which you attach somewhere on your body and it automatically pairs instantly out of the box. The sound is professional and would suit any type of use including commercial in my opinion. I highly recommend this product and I would buy again in a heart beat. ... show more

  • Cuts out when receiver & transmitter are 2+ feet apart, support ignored both inquiries
style: Headset Configuration: XPD2
I used this a couple of times, didn't have any issues, then stored it carefully because I no longer had a use for it. Fast forward a year and a few months. I'm using it to record yoga videos, and it cuts out mostly (if not completely) when the transmitter is 2 or more feet away from the receiver. I tried it on both my MacBook and iPhone (same setup that worked when I bought it new), and the receiver wouldn't even light up when plugged into my iPhone. I tested the adapter to make sure that wasn't the issue, and other USB devices connected without issue. So, I suspect that the receiver is just a dud or poorly constructed. I emailed support via the contact info supplied here, and no response for nearly a week, so I emailed again and nothing. I just wanted to know if I'm missing something, if there's a way to correct this issue, or if it's what I suspect and I need to replace the receiver. I assume that I'm out of warranty window, which is fine. But I did expect support to acknowledge my emails and they didn't. I ended up replacing it with a Rode wireless mic and lavalier add-on. Way spendier, but after watching a YouTube yoga teacher comparing various wireless mics, it was clear that it was the way to go. But, I still want to know what Samson has to say, though, so that I know if I should toss it or sell it on eBay. Argh. ... show more

  • Great wireless mic with great range
style: Headset Configuration: XPD2
I stream on Twitch and already have a halfway decent streaming setup including an AT2020USB+ mic (decent mid tier mic for streaming or podcasting once you noise gate it so it quits trying to pick up Martian farts). But being a variety streamer I also do art & stuff so I wanted to take my stream outside to do epoxy resin art. That means I need both hands and no more wires tangling me up. This mic did that beautifully. It sounds great, has amazing range (I forgot to mute and my stream got to listen to me trying and failing at flirting with the pizza delivery girl way down my driveway out in the street) and the battery life is amazing. The quality, even being a wireless mic, is on par with many other wired $100-$200 options out there. It's legit comparable to an AT2020 or a Blu Yeti. A lot of folks haven't even noticed when I switch from my Audio Technica to this. ... show more

  • I have 12+ years in AV, and LOVE this little mic
style: Lavalier Configuration: XPD2
I have hosted AV for small-large business meetings and seminars for a long time, and have used portable PA systems in the past for smaller meetings... which is bulky and honestly don't sound that great. I got this mic, was able to plug into computer - then just send the audio out to a small external speaker and viola!!! a perfect little portable PA system that sounds Much Better that a separate PA system with mic built it. So I can play audio from powerpoint, and have lapel mic working at the same time - using only my computer. Sound was amazing - this little mic picks up very well and feeds back very little - AWESOME!! ... show more

  • and this is the best to date
style: Lavalier Configuration: XPD1
I’ve tried many microphone options for recording live lectures (where I move around the classroom), and this is the best to date. It’s very lightweight, easy to set up, and the sound quality is great. Just plug it into the USB port on my computer, and it immediately appears as a sound source. Two suggestions to ensure great sound quality: 1) Be careful to place the USB receiver in a location that has a clear, unobstructed path from wherever you’ll be broadcasting to avoid interference from other electronic devices. 2) Change the batteries often (I use rechargables) to ensure the transmitter has full power. ... show more
