Despite my initial skepticism, considering I already own higher-end welders like a Hobart stick welder, this unit proved to be a functional and solid choice. While it doesn't compete with high-end models, it offers great value for beginners or anyone needing a portable welder for small jobs such as patching equipment or tacking a quick weld. The welder is compact and easy to handle, about the size of a cordless drill, making it ideal for tight spaces. It comes with everything you need to get started, including welding rods, eye protection, and a carrying case. With five power settings, you can adjust the welder to handle different metal thicknesses. I tested it on a small project and was able to achieve decent penetration, though there was noticeable spatter. The welder is simple to set up, with a spring-loaded release for the welding rod, a power adjustment dial, and an attached grounding cable. While the unit includes two types of eye protection—an auto-darkening lens and a traditional fixed lens—I recommend investing in a dedicated welding helmet for added safety and comfort if you plan to weld regularly. Although the included eye protection works, an auto-darkening helmet will offer better visibility and comfort over time. This kit includes everything you need to start welding other than the metal that needs to be welded. Now, none of it is ultra high quality or performance, but this is an inexpensive way to get started welding. And it's a very portable unit, which is handy if you have limited space. The set includes the welder (which is about the size of a battery powered drill), welding rods, eye protection, and it all comes in a nice carrying case. There are 5 power settings for the stick welder, so it can be adjusted for different metal thicknesses. I only tested this on thinner scrap metal (approx 18 ga) and it was able to get penetration. I'm used to using a MIG welder, so trying to weld with an approx 8 inch welding rod sticking out of a hand drill shaped device didn't come naturally to me. Because of that my welds were kinda messy. OK, they were very messy. I'm sure that would get better with practice. The welder itself was easy to set up. There is a spring loaded release where the welding rod is inserted (you should do that with the power off and preferably welder unplugged), a dial to adjust the power of the welder, and an attached grounding cable to clip onto the piece being welded. I have a full size welder setup so I did not use the included eye protection. There are actually 2 types included. One is an auto-darkening lens with temple arms like sunglasses. I was concerned about the lack of face coverage as there can be splatter and there are definitely UV rays when welding. The other type is an old-school always dark lens that is placed in a shield that starts flat but is designed for the user to fold into shape before use. It seemed pretty light weight so I wasn't sure if it would stop any splatter. I also haven't welded with a helmet that the lens doesn't auto-darken so I didn't know if I'd have the sight to properly weld using that. My advice for anyone who plans to weld more than one time is to buy a dedicated welding helmet. There are some decent functioning ones out there that aren't all that expensive and you'll be safer and get better quality welds because you can see properly. I'm giving this an average rating even though I'll rarely use it. It's OK for a beginner, or someone who needs portability, but I ordered it because the description (when I ordered it) said it welded aluminum, and I was looking for an inexpensive way to try that. Well, it really isn't set up to weld aluminum, so I was pretty disappointed when I was testing, but I see the description has been updated with that removed so I'm not going to rate down because of it since it is no longer misleading for future customers.

The media could not be loaded. This thing is amazing! I have a titanium flux core from harbor freight that I love and I notice I pick this up for portability 9 times out of 10. I don’t do any serious welding but I do need to tack a weld here and there every now and then. This thing is much smaller than the titanium ( everything’s contained in a carry bag unlike the traditional welder)and does just as good of a job. Great value for the money Attached a short video of a bead i wedded when learning how the tool works, again I’m not a pro but I can use this to weld a bracket back on the tow behind plug core aerator, or patch a mower deck. The heat penetrated to the back of the blade and for sure will take care of any quick farm repairs.
