Solid, well made with large scale arbor. Overall worth the money, good starter reel. For my preferences it is too heavy when spooled up with backing and line for a 5wt / 9 ft rod. The retrieve is ok. The graduated scale/settings for the drag is good, if not a bit tight on the lower settings. Not really the greatest for light tippets. There are two reviews I'd like to include. A review of the product itself, and a review of the seller. I'll state my reason for returning the product too. Okay first of all, this fly reel is amazing. I ordered the 5/6wt, unboxed, and spooled up Rio WF5F with Rio Purple backing. I fished this on a TFO Axiom II and it paired well, even caught my PB Largemouth on the fly with this setup. So for that price, I was surprised that Sage even would sell a reel under $200. Drag tightens up well and it's very lightweight. So overall the reel itself is 5/5 for me, at this price point. As for the seller, that's where I take away 2 stars. I wish there were more of a quality control on these intro level reels. Right out of the box I noticed a black spec on the inside of the reel seat, along with the cast grey aluminum with air bubbles underneath. It's mainly cosmetic and didn't affect the reel performance at all but coming from a company like Sage, you'd expect a pristine reel out of the box with no blemishes. Unfortunately, that was not the case with the reel I ordered, that's why I'm returning and hopefully I'll be able to find a seller that is local or a different seller on Amazon. ... show more

This is the second Sage Spectrum C I have purchased, a 5/6 and a 7/8. Really well made and casting has come so far over the last few years they function the same as machined with the same drag system as their top of the line reels. Just a tad fiddly getting the spools back onto the reel but nothing to fuss too much about. Great reel for under $200 ... show more
