  • My favorite incubator
Color: OEGG12
I have three incubators running with quail eggs currently and this incubator is my favorite. It seems to give me the best hatch rate and really is the easiest to use. It has a couple quirks and I’ll list them, but they don’t bother me because I’ve got healthy chicks. I have three button quail freshly hatched sitting in it now. The quirks: 1. The styrofoam it’s shipped in is meant to stay on, so the picture is not accurate. There’s two slits in the styrofoam that allow you to view the eggs/birds. Not great, but it works. 2. The system is in Celsius. Not a big deal once you figure out the numbers you need. It is very consistent and I don’t actually need a secondary thermometer for the temp because I trust the reading. 3. The humidity however is why I have a secondary thermometer in there. I don’t believe it has humidity readings in the machine at all. And the humidity is hard to control. If you crack the top vent at all, the humidity tanks. But if you keep it sealed up, the humidity remains high. There are holes in the bottom to add water. Which I really like because I don’t need to open the top at all. 4. The candler light is meh, I use a different one. 5. The gear mechanism is great, but when the eggs go into lockdown that area becomes a death trap for chicks. I always lay down shelf liner to prevent splay leg and then bunch up the end and shove it into the gear area. Knock on wood I haven’t had a problem yet. Yes I’m still giving it a 5. Haha once you figure out the quirks is the perfect little incubator :) ... show more

  • Faulty (Killed all of our chicks)
Color: OEGG12
When we first got the incubator, the instructions were in terrible English, we couldn’t understand a word they said, and it didn’t explain half the functions. When we actually used the incubator, the temperature didn’t regulate, it kept going .5-10 degrees under what we set it to, then back up. There is no humidity monitor, and all my (14) chicks died trying to hatch. Only three lived, barely, and were actually hatched too early. The rest we waited until the 26 day. They were definitely alive when the first three had hatched. Some had even gotten halfway cracked out before suffocating. We had no way of knowing if it was humid enough, and since the temperature kept fluctuating, we had no idea if that was accurate either. In short, this killed all of our chicks and was extremely faulty. These are extremely rare chicks, they are very expensive too. We treated their eggs with a lot of love, and were absolutely devastated when we saw them dead inside their eggs. ... show more

  • DO NOT TAKE OFF THE FOAM BOX!
Color: OEGG12
There is one thing to know do not take of the Styrofoam box that is part of the instillation of the incubator. This is my first incubator and I just want to say it is awesome. It is so easy, I just turned 11 years old and I bought this, it is so easy all I had to do is just press set and put water in it and then Walla its done. There is just two things that I do not love about this it is it is a little loud and it keeps me awake. And the last thing is it does not have a humidity thermomotor come with it so I had to buy my own other than that I love it. I also hatched most of my eggs of my eggs that where fertile. All I want to say is purchase this as fast as you can because it is pretty sweet. And yes this was done by a 11 year old. ... show more

  • Hesitant, but absolutely satisfied
Color: OEGG12
I purchased this to hatch a clutch of 6 Turken/Naked Neck eggs. I needed an incubator that could get to me ASAP, so I purchased this one even though I was hesitant due to the reviews. I’d like to start off by saying, your hatch rate shouldn’t determine your rating with incubators. You could have the most expensive incubator in the world and still have a bad hatch. Also, PLEASE do extensive research on how to hatch these little guys. I highly recommend checking out backyardchickens.com for information on how to hatch and so you can get some help along the way if you run into any obstacles. Set up was easy, but the instructions weren’t super clear. They were legible enough though as we were able to set up temperature ranges and the turning rate. The candler was a great addition. It did the job well, and even helped us look for pipping towards the end of the cycle (I recommend using a flashlight to shine through the plastic top to assist with looking for pipping). I only really have two complaints. One is the temperature probe isn’t completely accurate. We prepared for that though and bought two thermometer/hygrometer combos (which you should honestly buy regardless because there’s always a chance for error and HUMIDITY IS VERY IMPORTANT). Temperature regulation was wonderful. It stayed steady throughout the 21 days. Humidity was the hardest to regulate, but that’s with any incubator really. The second is the range of vision. You only have a tiny window to check for pipping and hatching. My advice would be to position the eggs in a crescent shape with the egg cells facing the windows when it’s time for lockdown Overall, I’m very satisfied. I ended up hatching all 6 eggs and now have 6 little babies to hold and love. Though better hatch rate doesn’t necessarily equal better incubator, it did its job outstandingly, and for the price, I highly recommend it. ... show more
