EDIT: Just got a second Safavieh Milan rug, 2 x 4, in dark gray, for next to my bed. JUST AS HAPPY WITH IT as the 3 X 5 purple rug I got for my sitting room. FYI, I was concerned the mix of light and dark fibers would make it look more salt and pepper, it appears charcoal to me unless I look at the fibers REALLLLY closely. LOOKS GREAT in my white, gray and purple bedroom! AND JUST A WARNING!!! PLS SEE BELOW..... It didn't come in any carton, just heavily wrapped in plastic, which was fine. HOWEVER, please note one must be REALLY careful when removing plastic wrap. The rug is wrapped tight as a sausage and I had to CAREFULLY snip the plastic away. In some areas it was more heavily overlaid in plastic and so I would NOT recommend something like boxcutters when getting plastic off. ________________________ PROS: LOOKS LIKE THE PURPLE IN THE IMAGE! - GREAT BRIGHT JEWEL TONE, but not TOO BRIGHT. it's not a muddy eggplant purple or a BRIGHT LIGHT purple. If you like the color in the image on Amazon, you'll like it in person. SOFT - IT's what I think of as a deep, short PLUSH rug. It doesn't have really LONG fibers, but it's PLUSH and SOFT like digging your toes into deep thick grass. This one was for my sitting area, I am getting a 2 X 4 for next to my bed. NO CHEMICAL SMELL - for those SENSITIVE, as I AM, I didn't notice any strong smell at all and it came heavily wrapped in plastic. It is just feet from where I am sitting typing this and NO SMELL and I just unwrapped it about an hour ago. SIZE -the 3 X 5 is grand for small rooms or areas (this is for a little sitting area where the focal point is Van Gogh's Irises in a LARGE print and this rug is in front of it) . NAME BRAND - it seems Safavieh has lots of good reviews for most of their rugs, so even tho I never bought one before, reviews convinced me. LAYS FLAT! - I was worried it wouldn't be FLAT, that it would be curled as that is how it comes in a box, but I think the WEIGHT of it is what helps flatten it right away. WHICH LEADS ME TO WHAT SOME MAY THINK OF AS PRO OR CON...IT'S HEAVY!!! For a 3 X 5 rug, it isn't just cumbersome to set down because of size, but it was a little difficult for me to maneuver because of WEIGHT! But then I'm in my late sixties and not a very big person... I THINK OF THE WEIGHT AS A PLUS THOUGH! Lays flat, LOOKS AND FEELS MUCH MORE EXPENSIVE THAN IT IS! IF A MEDIUM DARK AMETHYST STONE WERE A RUG, IT WOULD LOOK LIKE THIS! Has a rich sheen.

This is not my first rodeo with shag area rugs. I had one a few years ago in Ivory, made by another manufacturer. It looked great when it was new but after several months use, it became matted and discolored in the traffic areas of the rug. It was a total loss, the color had actually turned gray where it was matted and no amount of carpet shampooing made any difference. It ended up out on the curb, and someone actually took it! Lol. Anyhow, when I received this one, I could tell a big difference right away, it was heavy, really heavy. As I unrolled it, I couldn't believe my eyes, it has to be the plushest shag I've ever seen. Like $$$$, but I only paid $$$. Wow! It's beautiful and top quality! I read reviews about off gassing? What the heck? If you mean new carpet smell, I love the smell of new carpet, to me it smells new and clean,kinda like New car smell... but maybe I'm a weirdo? It doesn't have much off gassing smell anyhow, in my opinion. Now on to the color. Maybe it's subjective, or in the eye of the beholder, but this color called dark beige looks more like cocoa brown, or even taupe, and it's not really dark, it's kind of light actually except where the shadows make it look dark in places...hope that makes sense. It's got a beautiful sheen to it too. If your making a decision about color, this is what I'd call a safe color that will go with anything. I like it a lot, but I did like ivory better in my living room, but was apprehensive to go with that color again after my first experience. Had I known how good this carpet is I might have. It's a winner! I have pictures to prove it! Buy it! UPDATE! I have purchased the same rug in the color grey. Since I wrote this review, I purchased a new home, and have been here for a year. I brought the original rug with me, but I was getting a little tired of the color, and the rug itself was starting to look a little tired. It could have probably been revived, because it wasn’t worn out, I was just ready for a change. I’ll say the same thing about the grey color as others have said. It’s a wonderful blend of grey and taupe, or beige, they call it greige. I’m posting pictures of it with my wall, floor and furniture colors. My wall color is called Gallery Taupe by Behr. My floors are kind of a taupe/grey blend and the couch is grey. I think it looks really great together, although I accidentally ordered the 5x7 size instead of the 6x9 size I had originally. It works, but I may go bigger next time. This is a very well made, quality rug, but I’m a person that likes change, so I plan to swap these out to different colors every couple years. Still very happy with the product! The first 3 pics are beige the last 3 are grey.

Love love love this rug! It arrived beautifully wrapped, and after a couple of minutes of vacuuming, it looks stunning. I got the off-white or cream color, but whatever color it is is perfect! I don’t know whether or not you wear shoes in your house but you’ll definitely wanna take them off because it is so Plush and feels so great on your feet! It just feels like quality and looks amazing! If you’re on the fence, don’t hesitate, buy it now! Totally worth it!

This shaggy rug is fantastic! It’s incredibly heavy (which helps it stay in place perfectly—no curling or shifting), and the pile is so plush and soft—walking on it feels like luxury every time. The quality is top-notch: durable, holds up great to daily use, and I can tell it’ll be a staple in my home for years without matting or shedding much. One thing to note: it had a pretty strong “new rug” chemical smell for the first couple of weeks (common with some synthetic shags), but it aired out completely after that—no issues now. Just unroll it in a well-ventilated spot or use a fan to speed it up. Overall, it transformed my space into something cozy and inviting. Worth every penny for the comfort and longevity—highly recommend if you’re okay with a short off-gassing period!

Soft, plush and just what I wanted! It arrived quickly and well packaged, with the ends covered with a protective "shower-cap-type" elastic-lined fabric. It unwrapped and laid flat all but the last 2 inches or so which were flat in the morning. It does have a bit of a chemical smell, but it dissipated quickly and was not bad enough to bother us while sleeping in the same room the night we got the rug. It also had a note from the company saying how they pay attention to detail and how customer service is important (nice touch) and they mean it because I actually had them ship me 3 FREE SAMPLES before I decided on the color. Speaking of color... Trueness to Color: When comparing the swatches sent to me: white, silver and dark grey - I opted for the dark grey. BUT when I received it, the rug was actually MUCH DARKER than the sample was that they sent me! I actually liked it better, but it is almost black which is a very big difference, so BEWARE! *See pics* Compared to other rugs: This one (Unique Loom Solid Shag Collection Snow White 4 x 6 Area Rug (4' x 6')) was so cheaply made I could see the backing through the surface! It also claimed to be white but was a yellowy off-white and had a slippery backing that would require a rug gripper under it. My favorite rug of all time for softness is (K-MAT 32x47 Inch Large Luxury White Bath Mat Soft Shaggy Bathroom Rugs Non-slip Rubber Shower Rugs Microfiber Washable Bath Rug For Floor Bathroom Bedroom Living Room) but it's just a large bath rug and not available in 8' x 10' or I would have been overjoyed! The rug is beautiful and the backing is textured enough that I don't use a rug gripper under it. Anyway, after shopping for several weeks for a good rug, this one is finally the softness, plushness, thickness, non-slipperiness, color and price I wanted! I would give 5 stars, but the color difference is too drastic to ignore. Please see pics and click "helpful" if it was! Thanks!

My experience with this rug - it's a really nice quality rug. Fortunately the new carpet smell was gone within a half hour. It laid flat right away. It's very soft to walk on and it doesn't leave footprints. I got the dark beige color and am completely happy with this purchase.
