  • Worked like a charm
Did the job. The bits got stuck together after 1 use, but I don’t mind because I won’t need it again.

  • Great addition tool if your adding doors
Precise location of handle and latch all in one tool.

  • Did not work on metal door
The template was super handy for knowing where to cut holes in my door; however, the arbor bit broke almost immediately while drilling through a thin metal layer in my exterior door. I ended up buying Lenox brand hole saw bits to finish the job. I would only use this on wood.

  • It works fine, but it is not a pleasure to use
I gave it four stars because for the price it does the job. The plastic template is very light, but it saves time in measuring. Once you get pilot holes started you could remove the template so it does not get damaged. I left it on and it constantly switched to the other bolt length when the hole saw encountered a change in door material and jumped a little. Not really a problem because the center hole kept it on track. Like other reviews stated, whichever hole saw you use will be all but welded to the mandrel. I opted to put the 2 1/8 inch hole saw on the mandrel because they include a 1" spade bit that made the bolt hole just fine. The template expects the 1" hole saw however so you can hold the 1" hole saw in the template, hit with a mallet to mark, then use the included 1" spade bit. If you want a nice finely tuned tool that is a pleasure to use, look elsewhere. If you want a template that works just fine and saves time in measuring, this this is your huckleberry. ... show more

  • Does not account for plates
So yes, this will generally get an initial drilling job done, however, the product does not account for the fact that lock plates have depth, and doors will not close if those plates aren’t embedded within the door and frame. Also, if your door has metal plates front and back, be prepared for the bit to only last through one door, if that. And once you’ve carved into your door for the plate embedding, the two may no longer align, just FYI. ... show more

  • Meh...
I give this kit a 3-star rating. The idea and main unit template are A-1. The issue is the hole saws aren't worth a darn IF drilling into SOLID, QUALITY wood! You don't realize this, however, until it's too late. Until you've already "soldered", or "meshed", the hole saw together with the drill bit after drilling into the wood. This is, of course, after only drilling the 1st hole - leaving you hole saw-less and drill bit-less to complete the project!!! I, personally, had to purchase a Lenox hole saw set then use the template unit as my guide. The Lenox saw was like butter with no issue removing from the drill bit. I wish I would've read many of the comments beforehand regarding the saws getting stuck because I would've went the Lenox route first. Saved A LOT of time and headache. A bit more money, but time wasted I could've used elsewhere while I ended up running on the hamster wheel. ... show more

  • Headache saver
I have some old doors in our 1950's house that needed the hole widened to 2-3/8in as it previously was 2-.5in. I watched some videos on YouTube about this product and decided to give it a try. The first door couldn't have been any easier as it only took about 1 minute to complete while taking things slow. I then decided to do our bathroom door, it was a little bit trickier as our door isn't in the best shape. I learned you really need to make sure the screws are securely fastened to the Ryobi before boring the hole otherwise you will run into issues. Once we corrected the door and got the screws securely tightened it worked like a charm. I highly recommend this product as they give you all the tools you'll need while saving you money from buying them individually, it was also nice knowing in our case no measurements were even needed to get the job done. ... show more
