  • Have an RV? Have a Mechanic that travels with you? No! You need this book.
This is the most worn, curled, shaggy book in my RV book rack. It travels with me and rarely leaves my RV. Mobile living quarters have unique systems, water lines must have some flex. Heaters and fuel supplies have unique requirements. windows, doors and suspension all need continued care and maintenance as all move and flex as the vehicle moves down smooth and rough roads alike. I find few shops that are familiar with these unique vehicles out on the road in the remote and rural areas that I travel and camp in. My RV is set up to be self contained and self supporting for remote camping up to three weeks at a time. We are not talking KOA here. No tailgate parties for this rig. This book is my back up. I have been able to use information from the book that prevents or limits the number of visits to the RV Shops other than to purchase the bling. The book is easy to understand and is laid out in a sectioned manner that lets you refer to areas such as heating and cooling, electrical, fuel, frame, power plant, interior and exterior lighting etc. ... show more

  • Great book for basic maintenance
I had actually bought this looking for a more indepth level of working on an RV. This has all the basic info of your systems, how to clean and other general stuff. Still a great book!

  • Great for everyday repair, but outdated, and no info on water damage repair
This is from 1998, so if you have a newer RV, you're probably better off getting the newer version, though at a glance through the table of contents, the only things it adds are info on diesels and solar systems. I bought this because I recently bought an older class C RV, and I'm repairing some water damage that has caused delamination of the walls and ceilings in some spots, and has some old poorly done seam repairs. Unfortunately the interior repair section is basic things like using mild soap and water to clean upholstery and nutmeats or markers to hide scratches on the woodwork. The exterior repair section has only 2 short paragraphs on caulking and sealing, one of which advises cleaning up the old sealant with "a good solvent". There is no mention of what solvents work best for the various sealants, or which will take the paint right off. It does cover replacing entire siding panels, but has little information on the more common issue of sealing up corners and roof penetrations that leak. It notes not to use silicone on the roof, but makes no mention of why not. That said, this book does a great job on what it does cover, which includes water, electrical, and gas systems, as well as specific appliances like refrigerators, stoves, generators, and AC units. It also includes info on the brakes and drive train, but this info is general and may or may not be helpful due to the variety of vehicles they are trying to cover. Overall, I'm glad I bought it, as I'm sure it will be useful for the info on the water, power, and gas systems + appliances, and I doubt I really need help with patching the exterior and gluing in new blue-board and plywood. I've found way more info for free online with regard to the latter. ... show more

  • Invaluable information about all things RV
This book covers practically everything an RV owner could need to know, often in surprising detail. Sure, the answers to most RV questions can usually be found on the internet, but that search can be long and confusing. Having everything in one place, in a physical book you can consult at will, makes this an invaluable asset for anyone with an RV. Sooner or later, you'll need the information in this book. Even if you don't intend to fix anything yourself, you'll have a much better grasp on what needs to be done, which can save you time and money when you do bring your rig to a professional. Do yourself a favor and buy this book! ... show more

  • Good for beginner RVer to read.
Ok for basic understanding. Not terribly helpful in doing repairs. Seems a bit dated.
