  • Great Customer Service
Color: Brown
August 2022 So it’s been a year and no issues until it all of a sudden stopped working. I self diagnosed; changed batteries, checked wiring, etc. nothing…. I reached out to the company and they had me attempt to test everything but video myself doing so. Once I confirmed with them the motor unit was bad they apologized, reminded me I was outside the one year warranty (by one week), but rectified the issue by shipping me a new motor unit for free. One week later I installed the new motor unit and it’s been working exceptionally since. Despite my initial issues and subsequent failure one year later the company stands behind their product and for that reason I believe they’re worthy of an excellent rating. August 2021 We’ve owned this product for a month and a half. Easy to install, appears to be solidly built, light sensor works as expected. The problem is it only opens half way for some reason now. If check the tracks, they’re clear, put new batteries in, still not opening all the way. And guess what, we are beyond the return date which was one month from purchase. Not impressed for something that cost $170. But wait there’s more….. after doing more research it had everything to do with how tight the screws were. Keep them loose and no problems. Until a year later (see above for further)! ... show more

  • Great Product , Awesome Customer Service
Color: Brown
We purchased the run-chicken automatic door in July 2021. Very easy to install on our coop, and from Day 1 it worked flawlessly, every day opening at dawn and closing by dark. The auto-door gave us peace of mind knowing the chickens would be safely locked in their coop protected from night time predators, and "released" in the morning for daily foraging. Unfortunately, just 8 months later, the unit has begun acting up. The door failed to open one morning, and I figured no problem, the batteries were shot. I replaced the batteries and the unit worked as designed for a few days, but then started having issues. It sometimes would not open on its own in the morning daylight, but it still closed on its own after dark. Some days, I could push the test button to get the door to open, other days there was no response at all with the test button (even after holding it down for 20+ seconds). On those days, I had to manually raise the door to let the chickens out. Even after a "manual opening" in the morning, the door would close automatically on its own after dark. I pulled and tested the new batteries, they still have a full charge, so it's not a battery issue. I've made sure the light sensor is clean/unobstructed, but the unit seems now to have a mind of its own now, sometimes functioning, sometimes not. Maybe the light sensor has a limited life and is failing? Bottom line, we've been extremely happy with the product, it worked as advertised, but for the price we were expecting a longer life before having to deal with finding a replacement. UPDATE! - Customer Service mailed us a new electronic unit at no charge. The new unit seems to be more solidly constructed then our original. With new electronics, the door is up and running again and you can count us among the very satisfied customers! ... show more

  • Took a chance on this because it was a more cost effective model; turned out well.
Color: Brown
I had heard about chicken door openers and came to Amazon to search for one. As I was scrolling through the products, I found this one. To be completely honest, what drew my attention to the product was that it was cheaper than the alternatives found on Amazon. I know cheaper isn't always better, and so I emailed the seller some questions about its quality and durability. I was pleased and surprised at how fast they got back to me with answers. My two concerns were snow and daylight. I live in a part of the country where we get snow, and I was worried it might not deal with colder temperatures and snow. Second, my coop is in a part of the yard where it gets less light. So, I wasn't as much worried about it opening early (or late) as I was concerned about closing early (before the chickens were ready to come in). I saw other products that had timers and/or day and night sensors, but very few adjustments. What intrigued me about the response from the company was that this was built and tested in cold environments so there were adjustments to deal with snow and daylight without having to constantly adjust the product or a clock or a sensor. Given Amazon's return policy and the company's quick and thoughtful responses, I decided to give it a try. The package arrived quickly; and not that this matters too much, but it's in a really cool enclosed design. So, everything was protected and ready to install. I half thought about using the shipping box as part of the attachment for the coop, but I realized it wasn't pressure treated. You'll see in the picture and video from the company that they install it on a wood chicken coop. But I have a TS wood+wire one. So, I took some pressure treated wood and created a panel for the door. On the back side, I cut a hole in the wire and then stapled the wire to the back of the frame. Outside of the time it took me to cut and paint the pressure treated wood, I would say the install took 20 minutes. My chickens took a day or two to get used to it, but it worked great. My problem was that one chicken kept staying out later and kept getting locked out. So, following the directions, I just turned the knob (what they call the "potentiometer" a quarter turn) and it was stayed open a little later--enough time for my late chicken to come home. Easy adjustment. The last few days, we had some snow. And again, it worked great. All in all, I only had one problem that is more of a design flaw for me on where I put the door. The door faces west and so I get a lot of snow/rain blowing in. On days that are warmer (above freezing) and then colder at night (below freezing), I did have the door freeze shut (e.g., I went out in the morning and it wasn't open). Again, enter the designers. They created dip switches to manage how much power the door gets. They recommend for slow/low motor to protect the chickens (think French guillotine). But, I had to move it up to high so that if that did happen, it would break through the little bit of ice that formed. Overall, I would recommend this product and would purchase it again. The company is really good on responding to questions. For the record, if you go with this product OR any chicken door, and you live in the cold, think about door placement as almost all roofs won't protect rain/sleet from getting in the door slot. But, again, I think the dip switches on this model help with those issues. ... show more

  • Pretty good
Color: Brown
We have had this door operational fir a couple months now and overall we are pleased with it. Love the features that you can code it from your phone. You can set it to open at certain times or based light sensors. The door has always opened properly in the morning. The only issue we have had is with it not closing every time at night. Once we think chicken bedding got in the groove to make the door rise back up ( safety feature to make sure no chicken gets stuck which is a nice feature. Not sure if it was the track was full or not). Sometimes the door doesn’t close at night and we are not sure why. We have it set up the light sensitivity option so we think it has something to do with that being bothered by a nearby light. Not quite sure why it doesn’t always go down but we will figure it out. Besides that factor- the door is pretty great. The door is very quiet operationally. ... show more
