I have birds and have to use products with no VOC. Not "no VOC" by government standards, which still has a small amount of VOC, but actually "no, as in none." When I opened this product it had almost no smell. I mean it smelled like felt, but nothing else. And I am happy to report it had no ill effects on my birds. I don't use carpet in general because of the health risks, but hardwood stairs can be slippery and loud, and after too many close calls of falling, I decided to carpet just the tops (using carpet that had off-gassed for 10 years). Originally, I had bought the rainbow colored, glued together type of carpet pad from Home Depot advertised as "low VOC." However, that thing smelled like a tire store. I left it in an empty room to air out and the whole room stank for days even after removing it. It was gross and not going in my house. Thankfully I found this product. You can get it cheaper is off sizes, so it ended-up only costing 40 dollars more than the Home Depot toxic waste version. A lot of brands lie about how healthy their products are. I mean there's not law against it, so why not? But RUGPADUSA really is clean, and I think they need to advertise towards pet owners, especially those with birds. This is a great product and I'm very satisfied!

Bought an area rug after much thought since I kept hearing about rugs not lying flat or having odors but we needed something on the composite flooring in the living room. We did not want to spend at lot since we have pets. One reviewer talked about making sure you got a rug pad. Bought a rug and then ordered the rug pad from Amazon. We did not put the rug down until the pad arrived. The rug kinks smoothed out in no time and the area rug has been great. We made sure to position the rug so that furniture covered the corners which are a tripping point no matter the rug. The rug mat was bigger than the 8 x10 rug we bought but it was not difficult to cut down ( we had ordered 8 x 10 rug mat). We used scissors to cut the mat. It required some effort but they were not the sharpest pair but rather our whatever scissors. Be sure to cut the rug pad slightly smaller than the rug. No obnoxious odors or sharp bits in the pad have been noted as these had been reported in the reviews for the rug pad. I have lived with antique wool and silk oriental rugs with and with out rug pads. If you buy an area rug buy a rug pad it makes a big difference. Do not expect the experience of wall to wall carpeting with area rugs. They are different.

These work great. I ordered 2 of them 1/4 inch a 9x12 and an 8x8 to put under thinner area rugs in the living and dining rooms on a polished tile floor. I'm not sure why so many people have slipping issues. Maybe they are upside down. The rough side needs to be up. I've had no issues at all. Have 4 young grandchildren and a dog. High traffic areas. Only 4 stars because they were about 5" around bigger than the sizes I ordered and has to measure and cut them back. You may want to size down to avoid that.

Like others, I did have to trim a couple of inches off each side to fit under a 10'x14' rug. I used kitchen shears and this went quickly. We aimed for ~1.5-2" inches of overhang which is working well for our 0.5" thick wool West Elm rug. I wasn't sure which thickness pad to get, but I'm glad I ended up buying the thickest one (0.5"), which doubles the thickness of our rug. Its great! Not too thick at all. The pad is very slightly stretchy so its a little tough to get it lined up. What we did was flip the rug upside down, align the pad on the backside of the rug (since the pad is easier to move around on top of the 120lb rug than vise versa) then once aligned, flip them over together to be right side up.

OK this rug pad is amazing especially for the money! Highly recommend! Delivered super quickly and perfectly packaged in perfect condition. The half inch might not be 100% accurate but it doesn’t even matter because it really gives a lot of cushion under my super flat rug that sits in hardwood. So much better crying around with my kid on the floor now!

I love that this pad is 100% felt and doesn't have the rubber backing like heavy duty pads I've bought in the past. The rubber backing is not necessary at all if you have furniture on a large rug with this pad as the furniture holds every thing in place. I bought the 8x10 pad and cut it to fit a rug that was somewhat smaller. The pad was easy to cut and lightweight so that it was easy to carry and lay out. I paired the pad with a Loloi area rug that I also bought on Amazon and love both products and would buy them again.

If you want your carpet to last, use a rug pad. It also makes it much more comfy to be on. I got this rug pad in a 1/4 inch thick size, which is good, but think next time I'll get the 3/8-1/2 inch for more cushion. Nothing wrong with this one, it is very nice, gives you all the padding you need, but I spend a lot of time sitting and playing on my rug, so a little extra cush would be even better. :)
