I lost my husband this year, and suddenly had to switch from cooking for two, which was hard enough, to cooking for one. Some kind of bento box is helpful. I make a dinner for two, and when I serve it, half goes on my plate, and half goes into the bento box and then into the refrigerator. I've tried several kinds, but I like this kind because it has little compartments that you can lift out before you put the rest in the microwave to reheat. That's useful for things like salad, slaw, and fruit that shouldn't be heated. As for having enough room under the little compartments, you just have to make sure you use the taller box. I like that these clean up so well in the dishwasher and perform so well in the microwave oven, plus they stack beautifully in the refrigerator and store nicely in my food container drawer. I have ruined a couple of them by heating very fatty foods like chili for too long - it's particularly hard on the lids and latches, if fat gets into the latch vents. I find that these are more sturdy than Hefty boxes, for instance, and I prefer them if I want to just eat out of the box instead of getting a plate dirty. They are very solid, and many of the other options are flimsy by comparison. I love that they don't stain. ... show more

We recently upgraded our food storage containers and invested in some Rubbermaid Brilliance items. I cannot tell you how happy we are with this line of products. The lids lock on, they're 100% leak proof, you can use them for fridge or freezer storage, they wash up in the dishwasher like a dream, and - one of the coolest parts - the locking lids have vents, so you can pop open the "handles" to open the vents and microwave with the lid on to control splatter. Did I mention stain resistant and BPA free too? Love them!! Now, on to this specific set... We purchased this set to get the fancy inserts, to allow even more flexibility when packing lunches or food for on the go. The external containers and lids in this set are exactly the same as our other Rubbermaid Brilliance containers, which is fantastic - I love uniformity. This set includes two small inserts that can be used together or separately, to allow you to keep food separated in the container. We love this for when we want to pack items that will be served cold (cole slaw, etc.) along with items that will be served warm. We can pack both in the same larger container, and remove the item to be kept cold while heating the other item. This set also includes a tray-like insert that fits in the top of the larger container, and includes a small sauce/dressing container with a lid. This allows you to pack a salad, or other foods that might get soggy being stored together, and keep things fresh and separate until you're ready to eat. Oh ho ho let ME tell YOU! I have been using these for a few months to be able to tell you a complete review. I have microwaved these! I have dropped these! One of my dogs even got a hold of one and decided to play keep away with me! And trust me when I say this that these are definitely better than any other lunch containers I’ve used! They do not stain, they do not melt in the microwave (using for 30 seconds at a time, stirring food, and repeat of course), and they do not leak! The rubber on the lid can be a little tricky to clean but if you soak the container in some hot soapy water for an hour or so, the container will clean itself (to an extent)! I love these and might buy more! I have the sandwich kit one! I use them for everything! Soups, salad, sandwiches, snacks, field trips (I’m a teacher), in the car, at home for leftovers! These are great! Mine did not come with any stickers on them (yes I saw those reviews) and they did not come with any missing pieces either. I would definitely recommend these to a fellow teacher/adult or anyone who has kids. I’d recommend them to just about anyone. If you think they stink at the end of the day, and I’m talking fishy eggy pickle smells here people, do not worry. The smells wash away! They foods wash away! The stain foods do not stain! I 100% recommend these! These are my own opinions, I was not paid to make a review! I’m at work eating tuna salad from the snack container and it is worth every penny! ... show more

    • Versatile system - perfect for hubby’s lunch
I just packed my husband’s lunch with this and am very happy with the purchase. I had spent hours looking at bento boxes and meal prep containers trying to find a customizable system. This product is so versatile with the removable dividers. It allows me to pack a variety of snacks and foods (without them being crushed too.) I made a turkey sandwich today and was worried that the large sourdough loaf I used wouldn't fit, but it was perfect :) I love that it’s spill proof bc he is in the field and his lunch is often crammed in his backpack and thrown around all day. Not that aesthetics are a big deal, but the look and feel of the containers are great. He won’t have to be embarrassed by different colored and mismatched or flimsy and stained stained tupperware around his coworkers. The plastic is thick, almost like glass. The sealing gaskets are very snug and it was a tad difficult to open the first time but not bad after that. The containers also fit perfectly in his Packit lunch bag too (which I wasn’t sure about when I made the purchase.) That is an awesome perk for us! Very pleased and will look at other brilliance containers if I need to expand :) ... show more
