  • Great watch, I never take it off
Great watch, I never take it off. Tasteful, but not too much. The watch says I have good taste, but I'm also sensible.

  • Tired of costly reapirs
I recommend another watch if you plan to be on the water (much less dive). I have paid thousands of dollars to repair the watch over several years (my repair bills exceed my initial cost). Two years ago I had water damage after wearing the watch in an 8' deep pool. Now I have moisture in the watch from showering. A watchmaker offered to repair it for $650 but advises not to wear it in the shower or near water. It is absurd to own a "dive watch" but have to take it off prior to showering. I turned down his offer and have an expensive paper weight. Save yourself money and frustration and buy a real dive watch or a nice dress watch. ... show more

  • Outstanding. Enough said!
I purchased this Rolex about three months ago. It's my second Rolex. My first is a 25 to 30 year old GMT a Master. That watch is now retired in my safe and worth three times more than I paid for it. Yes, inflation accounts for some of that, but the fact of the matter is my GMT Is worth what I paid for it and has never lost value. If you keep the watch for a few years, you can't go wrong. As far as quality, this watch is top notch. Yep, a strange statement considering its a Rolex. But it's clear its top notch. Heavy, but not too heavy. The perfect size. Most people don't realize that EACH Rolex movement is sent out for certification and certified BEFORE it is put in the case. It's is not a sloppy batch process. The more you wear the watch, the better it keeps time. I really believe all high end mechanical watch movements need a break in period. New, this Submariner is running at plus 3 seconds a day. Amazing. My OLD GMT was at plus 6 when I first purchased it and now runs at plus 2 seconds a day. It was worn every day and put in a watch winder when gone for an extended period where I didn't take it with me because of theft concerns. And, it was only serviced once in 30 years! Again, amazing. The bezel and case on this watch is absolutely beautiful. I can't describe it and is a huge improvement over my GMT. The anti reflective coating on just the date window is a nice touch. I'm not going to go into the mechanism, as I'm not an expert. But, some proven refinements have been done to the movement. Please understand that Rolex builds all their watches in house. From the case to the movement. As for the bracelet. It is solid and heavy duty with the best adjustment system in the business. You can micro adjust it as needed and is a GREAT feature. As a matter of fact, it's my favorite thing about this watch. But, I would only get a Rolex from an authorized dealer. I'm not sure if the Amazon Dealers are Authorized or not. Please keep in mind, that the Submariner is the most counterfeited watch in the world. You need to be careful. Period. Gray market is not the way to buy this product. No E-bay for sure. You want to walk in, see it and know it's real. No, I'm not a dealer if you are thinking that! You you will pay more and sales tax. Of this fact, there is no doubt. But, at the end of the day, you will be glad you did. Trust me. ... show more

  • A serious watch. Have you earned it?
The Sub needs no intro, but the new Sub is a better boat all around. First, the case redesign, claimed by father Rolex to be more sporty, but is actually a Deepsea lite. The new Sub case is beefier, bigger, and thus heavier and slightly thicker. The bezel is georgous and it's platinum coated ceramic is stunning in looks and performance. Its an obvious upgrade of the old scratchable Aluminum one. The bracelet is almost straight off the Deepsea and delivers the most satisfying clunk when set down. It is literally solid unlike its hollow predecessor, and the clasp is the world's best IMHO. On a side note, the Glidelock adjustment is amazing, but also necessary given that the sheer mass of this beast often requires daily micro adjustment to keep it fitting properly and comfortably. Inside, the new hairspring did what the old one does only better. The parachrom hairspring is blue which is also the color of the Chromalight lumenence. And speaking of lights, the new Sub's running lights are bigger, brighter, and as mentioned, bluer. So what to do right? If you want the history, fame, durability and technology of the Sub, then there is no other choice. The Depsea is fine, but another quarter inch thicker which is like dog inches making it somewhat excessive for daily wear. The Sub is the definition of classic with many firsts. First waterproof watch. First rotating bezel. First crown shoulders. In my book, this watch is the next step in the evolution of a legend. Unfortunately, it has no competition except with itself. The Sub defines this entire category of watch. For me, this watch is the ultimate in function, form, and watch history. Everything else either is a copy or falls short. Everything! If you deserve it, then you need it. ... show more

  • Who buys a $10,000 watch online sight unseen?
Awesome iconic watch. But, buying online seems like an awful good way to catch a fake. Go to an authorized Rolex dealer like a responsible adult and buy a watch with all the proper credentials.

  • Flagship Watch
Just traded my three-year old 14060M No Date sub for this one. That was a fine watch, my daily wearer. For some reason , I just always wanted the date version and regretted, just a tiny bit, not having bought it orignally. After all, the No Date is the 'classic' Rolex sub of James Bond and the real Steve McQuen. Anyway, the new 116610LN with the ceramic bezel is considerably more watch. The case is bigger, without the visible band lug pins. It's heavier. The band links are now solid steel, not hollow. The No Date (ND) was very light and comfortable. This is the most 'salable' and 'tradable' Rolex watch: it's almost 'currency'. That shouldn't be your main concern but it's nice to know. This is a serious investment unless you're a dot-com billionaire or a Russian Oligarch or rap star. Go to an Authorized Dealer and try a few Rolex watches on and see which one you like best. I am lucky enough to own three Rolexes but this is the flagship, even if it isn't the fanciest or most expensive. For many foks, the Sub Date is the watch that defines, the brand. ... show more
