  • Awesome lens
Style: For Canon
I've come to really, really enjoy this lens. The build quality is fantastic (really not sure what the other reviewer was talking about - the knobs are super easy to use). The focus ring is an absolute pleasure, especially for video. And when you play to its strengths - tilt shift and macro - it produces some stunning pictures. The rest of my camera kit is L glass, but I like this lens so much I often use it as a walk around. For those who don't know about tilt shift lenses, they basically allow you to change the depth of field from the standard front-to-back to a much more interesting composition. For example, I can simulate very shallow depth of field with this lens, even though it's a 24mm. That lets you get really creative and make some truly amazing images. THINGS THIS LENS IS GOOD AT: - Tilt shift photographs. - Macro, due to the super low minimum focus distance. - Very low barrel distortion. - Color rendition. - Bokeh. - HD video, both tilt shift and normal. THINGS THIS LENS IS NOT GOOD AT: - If you like to shoot 20MP photos at f/3.5, focused at infinity and no tilt shift, then view your pictures at 100% and pixel peep, this is not the lens for you. This is not a razor sharp lens. It is, however, PLENTY sharp to get awesome results, especially for well under half the price of the Canon equivalent. - Autofocus. It doesn't have it. But seriously, it is not difficult to manually focus a 24mm lens at f/3.5+. It's actually really easy, especially with a focus ring that's as dampened as this one. And when the lens is tilted (i.e. it's main purpose), you would never autofocus anyway, because you're playing with the depth of field to decide what parts of the image you want blurry and what parts sharp. In other words, if you plan to use a tilt shift lens creatively for photos or videos to get that awesome blur effect, get this and save $1000. If you plan to use a tilt shift lens for pixel-perfect architecture photography, get the Canon instead. ... show more

  • Fixed the front part dropping down and tiny knob issues!
Style: For Nikon
Mostly positive with a few negatives. Positives are it does what it says it will do. The tilt and shift functions work quite nicely and the image quality is excellent for this price range and above. It does have a steep learning curve but so far I've been happy with the results. I do love the panorama feature because I don't lose any edges from lens curvature when doing it with the three steps (shift left, center, right). It does have some vignetting which is pretty much the case with all wide angle lenses. It is 100% manual but no problem for me. You do have to use the live view screen for best results of focusing accuracy. I have a viewfinder that attaches to the back of my camera which makes it a lot easier to fine tune focusing. Now for the few negatives which I am proud to say I have fixed. The main adjusting knobs on this lens are horrible! Way too tiny and short. The locking knobs are not a problem. Then the stupid front part of the lens drops down from gravity when you shilt it all the way up. You can try to tighten the lock know but that only locks it in place. You don't have smooth control like the Nikon or Canon tilt shift lenses have. So being and industrious person, I went about fixing the problems. IF YOU CHOOSE TO DO THIS, DO IT AT YOUR OWN RISK. I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE IF YOU MESS UP YOUR LENS! It is not hard and easily reversible if you don't like it. First, I found some very tiny plastic washers in my parts drawers. I also had some tiny split lock washers. I chose to use these. You can get these at any hardware store. Lock the tilt and/or shift knobs so the adjusting knobs don't turn. Carefully unscrew the tiny screw at the end of the small adjusting knob. Carefully pull the knob up and off. There is a small pin that goes through a hole on the shaft. Using needle nose pliers, Carefully pull this out. Warning: You have to make sure the shaft is NOT pointing straight up or it will fall into the lens! Hold on to the shaft as you remove the pin. Now slide the tiny lock washer over the shaft leaving the plastic washers already on the shaft. Put the pin back in the hole, holding on to the shaft with needle nose pliers. Then push the knob back onto the shaft and put the screw back in. Now, when you tighten the screw, you can adjust the tension on the knob. Tighten it enough that you can still turn the knob but the front no longer falls down. EASY FIX!! Do this BEFORE the next step!! Then I found some 1/4 inch vacuum caps I had lying around. They are about 3/4 inch long. You can get these on Amazon for cheap and in various sizes. (https://www.amazon.com/Dorman-Help-47393-Vacuum-Caps/dp/B000CO7AZC/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1531532235&sr=8-1&keywords=1%2F4+inch+fuel+line+rubber+cap&dpID=41-VO75tOaL&preST=_SX300_QL70_&dpSrc=srch) If you buy the 1 1/4 inch size and it is too long, you can always cut it shorter with a box cutter. What you do is lock the tilt and/or locking knobs so the adjusting knobs don't move. Then carefully slide the 1/4 inch tubing over the knob down to the wider (smooth) part. This will give you a little extra length and width and is much easier to now turn the knobs, even when in the up position by the flash or top of the camera. ... show more

  • Great lens for the money!
Style: For Nikon
This is a fantastic lens for the price! To be short and concise, this lens is very sharp everywhere except wide open (f3.5) where it is a little soft. If you just take it down 1/3 of a stop though, the results are much better! This lens produces awesome shots whether using the tilt or the shift function and is easy to use! My only downside to this lens is that the dials to not feel overly strong. I have been using it for about 6 months and have had no problems but when locking it at a specific tilt, the dial just does not feel very strong to me. Nothing has gone wrong so far so it is just a wait and see but other than that, this is a great lens! ... show more

  • What's the beef about this lens?
Style: For Nikon
Forget what people say or complain about this lens. This lens happens to be a steal at this price! It is sharper than my Nikon 50mm or my Nikon 16-35mm at extreme blowup. I couldn't believe it as I snapped a few test photos. A wonderful lens for portrait or buildings, but my favorite is small objects with lots of bokeh around them. Hard to do with the other lens I have. BTW, you can have the sharpest lens made and still not focus well and take crummy photos. Some of my best photos have been taken with a 50mm f2 lens because I planned it out and KNEW my camera. ... show more

  • Do not buy
Style: For Nikon
Despite the pitch, doesn't give the assist needed for architectural photography. Software is cheaper and better than this lens. Seller was of no help.
