  • Very satisfied with this purchase
Style: 2.5 Micron Filter Bag
Installed and in use for two weeks, I am very satisfied with this purchase. It has made a huge difference in the cleanliness of my shop compared to my old "adapt Shop Vac to my power tools" method. The suction is just fine - Not sure what other folks were trying to suck up that caused them to complain, It is after all a DUST collector (does well with chips and shavings too), not a "shop vac". MUCH quieter than my shop vac as well which is a huge thing when one has it running for extended periods. UPDATE: Both my thickness planer and my jointer cause the intake to clog with shavings and render the collector ineffective. This is because there is a safety cage at the inlet that traps larger shavings causing the clog. The cage appears to be there primarily to keep you from putting your hand into the impeller while the machine is running, and secondarily to prevent very large objects from entering and damaging the impeller. Both situations are undesirable and easily preventable. If you never run the collector without a hose attached and never try to use it as anything other than a dust collector attached to a machine (i.e. don't use it as a "shop vac"), you can safely work around the problem (although I'm sure the mfr would not recommend this). The cage is easily snipped away with tin snips. I've never had a problem with it sucking in as many shavings at as high a rate as my machines have been able to produce since doing this. Just remember to NEVER run the collector without a hose attached and NEVER use it for anything other than its designed purpose - collecting dust and shavings from saws, planers, jointers and other machines. ... show more

  • Works well in small shop, quieter than shop vacuum solutions
Style: 2.5 Micron Filter Bag
Before buying this product, I had used a "Dust Right" dust separator connected to a shop vacuum for a few years. This works far better. I now connect this Dust Collector to my dust separator (to catch the larger sawdust) and from there plug the hose into each saw, router, or sander as needed, all of which are reasonably close together. I worried that stepping down to the 2 1/4 hose that exits my dust separator from the 4 inch hose that comes out of the dust collector would be too much of a suction loss, but it works fine and all of my tools have the smaller dust port anyway. It plainly produces more suction than my 6 HP shop vac did -- there is much less dust visible around the machines after each use than before. The Dust Collector is also quieter than my shop vac system was, which is a relief. I plug the Collector into the same power strip that serves the tools and toggle the power strip on in order to use the tool, which turns on the Dust Collector (which I leave toggled on). After switching off the tool, I toggle off the power strip, which quiets the collector and disconnects the tools from power for safety. I selected this product over the larger, floor-standing units because space is pretty limited in my shop. I also have a Shop Fox dust filter, which I keep running when I am cutting or sanding. Combined, the result is a system that produces much cleaner air -- which is a relief. ... show more

  • Good Value for the money. Really need a 2nd stage cycle seperator.
Style: 2.5 Micron Filter Bag
I did a lot of research before settling on this. It is identical to other brands made in china however this has a better bag which filters smaller particals out of the air. I was at first disapointed on how fast it lost suction when it collected small dust particals. I did more research and decieded to install a second stage trash can cyclone system. I got the one that fits on 30 gallon trash cans. This made all the difference in the world. It maintains strong suction and puts out less dust. Emptying is also easier. It will also protect the impeller from damage as large chips and other debris is trapped in the can. I would only recommend this if you also by a cycle initial stage system. ... show more

  • Compact and great
Style: 2.5 Micron Filter Bag
I have a 3rd stall in my garage that i flipped half to be a shop. When i was cutting wood, dust would fly absolutely everywhere and i didn't feel like constantly dragging my shop vac everywhere and be pierced by the loud sound. I got this, hung it in the corner of my garage and it is excellent. The sound is a lower hum and while the suction isn't as tight as the shop vac, i cut some wood on my table saw and my miter saw and there wasn't much of anything left. The remaining I swept up with a broom and sucked up with the fox. The product itself is good, but if there were one thing i'd change, it's that cotton bag. It's white for whatever reason and is like a magnet for dirt. They should have made it vinyl instead. Other than that, it's compact, quiet and works well. Just be careful hanging it on the wall since it's heavy. ... show more

  • Major upgrade, quiet, powerful
Style: 2.5 Micron Filter Bag
So I upgraded from a 4 gallon rigid shop vac to this and wow big difference ( I mean obviously right?). The noise is much less than the rigid shop vac also! I have my shop in the garage attached to my house and can have my Jet drum sander and this Shop Fox shop vac going without much noise for the house (in fact my little kids can be sleeping while I use it and it’s no issue). Easy to install, very powerful. I love the easy zip bag for clean up. Nothing but praise for this much needed upgrade for my shop. ... show more

  • Great small shop accessory
Style: 2.5 Micron Filter Bag
For a small shop, this product is great! I have it hooked up through a home-made cyclone separator and the suction didn't reduce by much. At first I had a shop vac fixture on the separator so I got a reducer. That all but stopped the suction completely, so I cut it out and put a 4 inch connection. Works perfectly. I was kind of surprised at how quiet this runs. Sounds about the same as a garbage disposal. Got a used one and had to take a dent out of the motor casing... took all of 2 minutes. All in all, I'd say get 4 inch connections only, and use on 1 tool at a time. ... show more
