Description

VideoMic Me Directional Microphone for Smartphones. The VideoMicro is a compact microphone designed to improve the audio quality of your videos. There is a bit of conventional wisdom that goes something like, "Half of good video is good audio." And it’s true. Say you’re recording a video of a live performance. Who cares if the band looks like they’re cooking if it doesn’t sound great; The VideoMicro incorporates a high-quality cardioid condenser microphone capsule for great quality audio recordings when used with a wide range of cameras. The VideoMicro reduces distracting peripheral sounds and focuses on the audio in front of the camera. Its pickup is more forgiving than other on-camera microphones, providing a more natural sound when recording indoors. The microphone body is made from aluminum, giving it a high level of RF rejection, and is finished in RODE's high-grade ceramic anti-glare black coating. Included with the VideoMicro is a camera shoe mount featuring a Rycote Lyre shockmount. Featuring a suspension structure composed of a rugged thermoplastic, it is far more effective at minimizing unwanted vibrations, handling and cable-borne noise than traditional elastic suspensions. The Rycote Lyre will never sag, snap, wear out or require rethreading to maintain its effectiveness. Also included is the WS9 synthetic furry wind screen with foam inner cell, designed for use in outdoor scenarios where wind and environmental noise can inhibit recordings. • DOESN'T WORK. AND FALSE ADVERTISING.
The media could not be loaded. It doesn't work! I've tried it on an iPhone iPad and a Galaxy 5S. ALSO the box says its for iOS and the ad says "Smart Phone" total false advertising You can see the test I did on an iPad on the attached vid. I'm sending this back.. SUPER DISAPPOINTED. .

  • How to use with iPhone 8 etc: see images
If you have an iPhone 8 with new charge port, this RHODES VIDEOMIC ME will still work. >>>>> I use a small cord extender (leftover from my old Lifeproof case), and then CLAMP the mic onto the male end of the Apple charger plug. ***See images attached. ADD A LITTLE DUCT TAPE to the male-end for better grip, and it’s VERY sturdy. Audio quality is great. Comes with wind shield for outdoor. Worth the money. Ignore the haters, no <$300 mic is perfect. The best camera/mic is the one you’ll keep with you and actually USE. This is small and useful enough with no needed battery - and an audio OUT port to plug headphones into (for monitoring and testing sound). I also have the full sized Rhodes mic, and it’s not practical for cellphone on-the-go videos. Buy this, especially at 35% off at the time of this review. ... show more

  • Dodge this bullet.
Worked great for about a month and then static...playback was terrible. Can't use it for live stream. My android phone hates this Mic. I can't tell you how many times I've had to re-film videos because this microphone worked sometimes and failed other times. Avoid this. Get a real camera and mic. Seriously. I'm upgrading from the S6 edge + to a Sony A6500 Mirrorless + Shotgun Mic, just so I never have to deal with this issue again. So frustrated and furious right now, you get what you pay for. ... show more

  • Got this Rode Mic ME as a Amazon refurb for cheap.
Been using the Rode Video Mic ME since Spring 2018. Only used it on two smartphones thus far both Samsung J3's of different years. What I don't like about it: I have to turn off Data connection and go into Airplane Mode to use it. With data on there is interference in the audio making it unusable. That means I cannot use this to do a livestream video feed outside of a wifi zone while on the move. Not always connected, you have to really push the 3.5mm all the way into the jack so it registers. This more a problem while on the move. The included spacer that's fits to the back next to the 3.5mm jacks fails keeping it secure to the phone thus my mic dropped a few times. Doesn't stay secure with most phone case designs well it is secure to a degree when using the back facing camera, not the front facing camera. What I like: It is small, compact. The headphone jack is there in case I want to review via wired connection. Bluetooth from another device works no problem. Despite the limitations, as long as I keep data off, have it on a stationary mount. The sound recorded from it is usable. I guess the only option for what I do on the go may as well use the GO model instead with the mic a distance a way attached via cable on an external mount. Don't own that model. The ME is still in my kit, sadly cannot use it for what I intended that being livestream on the move. ... show more

  • Some of these devices have tremendous difficulties with static noise ...
Some of these devices have tremendous difficulties with static noise / cell phone or radio interference. The one I ordered did have this problem and I found a handful of other people on YouTube and other places on the internet who are also having the same issue. Some people have had partial luck by turning their cell phones to "airplane mode" while using the rode VideoMic Me but my issue persisted even with airplane mode. Interestingly I also have a rode video micro which does not have this issue. I did a number of tests with this device but ended up having to return it. I really wanted it to work. ... show more

  • Great mic for the price.
The media could not be loaded. Its a good mic for the price but sounds like your in a tin can. You can hear the difference for yourself in the video clip. The best part about this mic is it is truly plug and play. Many mics claim it but this one actually delivers it.

  • If you want to check the sound prior to or while recording you'll need to download an app like Filmic Pro which is around $15
The microphone definitely improved the sound quality in my videos shot on my iPhone 6s Plus, but if you're going to purchase there are a few things to keep in mind. When using this with the built-in camera app on the iPhone, you are not able to monitor the sound while recording despite the headphone input on the back of the mic. If you want to check the sound prior to or while recording you'll need to download an app like Filmic Pro which is around $15.00 USD. You'll also want to put your phone on airplane mode otherwise you'll get interference with your audio. These are minor grievances but I think they're worth mentioning since I hadn't seen anything about them in other reviews. Overall, this is a nice product but you'd really only need it if you're serious about creating content on your phone. ... show more

  • Best microphone for iPhone videos ever!
So I make fun videos with my friends just for the fun of it, we Edit them and post them on KelBellFilms. It's just a fun hobby for me. And I just wanted to start putting some audio in my videos. So I didn't want to waste a lot of money on a big expensive mic for my moms camera. So I just got one for my phone to make the audio sound like it is a expensive camera. And after putting the rode mic me through a few tests I absolutly love it!!! The wind muff works so well and makes my audio sound so good! I'm sooo happy with my purchase and it's just so amazing! Now if you do try and do a test with the mic on and off like saying hello, it doesn't make a big difference. But after testing it in crowded areas that have lots of noise it works great!!!! And I would buy it over and over again if I had too. So happy with my purchase and now my videos don't look like they were filmed with a phone!! 😊 ... show more
