  • I Would Highly Suggest This Item...PERFECT!
Model Name: PSA1+
The RØDE PSA1+ Professional Studio Arm has been an outstanding addition to my daily broadcast and voice-over workflow for weather forecasting and studio production. As someone who records voice tracks and delivers forecasts regularly, having stable, quiet, and highly adjustable microphone positioning is extremely important — and this studio arm performs exceptionally well in every category. The build quality is excellent and immediately feels professional-grade. The arm is incredibly stable, moves smoothly, and holds microphone positioning precisely without drifting or sagging over time. The spring damping system works beautifully and provides nearly silent operation during adjustments, which is critical in voice-over and recording environments where unwanted mechanical noise can easily be picked up by sensitive microphones. One of the strongest features is the cable management system. It keeps the setup clean, organized, and professional-looking while reducing cable interference during recording sessions. In a busy studio or weather production environment, maintaining a clutter-free workspace is a major advantage. The arm’s range of motion and adjustability are also excellent. It allows quick positioning changes for live broadcasts, voice-over recording, weather updates, and long studio sessions while maintaining very smooth movement and strong support for professional microphones. Another major advantage is the reduction in desk vibration and handling noise. The PSA1+ does an excellent job isolating the microphone and helping maintain clean, broadcast-quality audio during recording. This has made a noticeable difference in overall production quality for weather narration and studio reporting work. The overall design is sleek, durable, and clearly built for long-term professional use. Even with daily operation, the arm continues to perform flawlessly and feels engineered specifically for serious studio environments. Highly recommend the RØDE PSA1+ to broadcasters, meteorologists, podcasters, voice-over professionals, streamers, and studio production teams looking for professional microphone support with outstanding stability, quiet operation, and premium build quality. Exceptional performance and absolutely worth the investment for professional audio production. ... show more

  • RODE quality is worth the extra cost.
Model Name: PSA1+
First bought the popular (and much cheaper) Chinese arm available on Amazon. That one was hard to adjust, hard to move out of the way (both to retract the arm and to swivel), and the microphone would not stay "tight". The RODE arm is SO MUCH BETTER. The RODE desk mount is sturdier and allows the arm to swivel easily without feeling "loose" and wobbly. The arm is very well balanced, so it extends and retracts with very little effort. The microphone locking system is perfect; easy to connect securely, but easy to remove if needed. Finally, the cable-management clips make it easy to keep the setup looking clean. Bonus, the RODE also comes with a bolt-thru desk mount if you do not like the clamp style. TLDR: Pay the extra money if you can afford it, you will be much happier with this product over cheaper options. ... show more

  • Solid, Smooth, and Professional – Worth the Upgrade Solid, Smooth, and Professional – Worth the Upgrade
Model Name: PSA1+
I bought the RØDE PSA1+ to use with my home recording setup, and it immediately elevated my workspace. The build quality feels very solid and premium, and the arm moves smoothly without any sudden drops or squeaks. The spring damping really makes a difference, adjustments are quiet and controlled, which is important when recording. I also appreciate the built-in cable management. It keeps everything looking clean and organized, especially on a desk where there are already a lot of cables. Once mounted, it holds the microphone securely in place and stays exactly where I position it, even during longer sessions. This feels like a professional-grade studio arm that’s clearly designed with creators in mind. If you want a stable, quiet, and polished setup for recording, streaming, or voice work, this is a great investment and doesn’t feel flimsy or cheap at all. ... show more

  • Works & looks great shelf mounted on the wall to free up desk surface! Works & looks great shelf mounted on the wall to free up desk surface!
Model Name: PSA1+
I read many reviews looking for comments about mounting this product on a shelf located above & in front of my workspace, but couldn't find any, so I'm providing this review as a courtesy to others looking for the same. I'm pleased to discover that this mic arm works perfectly because it stays put when you retract or extend the mic arm. I was concerned about the weight, but no issues there. The reach length is also great and easily goes downward below the shelf. When I'm not using it, I just push it upward out of the way. I like that it doesn't occupy any desk surface, and I'm not bumping into it with my elbow. Plus the mounting clamp is thick sturdy metal, not plastic. Just be sure if you do a setup like this, that your shelf is secured well to the wall studs and the shelf itself is sturdy. My mic arm is mounted approx. 3ft from where I sit and the shelf is about 2.5ft above my desk. I adjusted the distance of the mount from my desk chair to get it perfect, which is easy to do because the clamp mounting bracket is easy to move. When pushed up, the arm folds & the mic is at the same level as the shelf, and pulled down, the mic is directly in front of my mouth for speaking. I used closet shelving with basic "L" brackets from the big box hardware store for my library because it was cheaper & easier than buying furniture/bookshelves. If I need to, I can switch out the Podmic for a boom mic & it will still work nicely. Overall, the mic setup looks & works great mounted with my library, so I'm glad I spent the extra bucks for a quality product. Plus it matches my Rode Podmic! Thanks Rode. ;0) ... show more

  • Tips for use with Blue Yeti Mic
Model Name: PSA1
For me the decision was between this and the Heil arm which is in the same price range (This arm was $100, the Heil was $120 as this was written) Neither arm is perfect. One nice thing about the Rode, and probably the Heil too, is that the arms are made in such a way that the angle of the mic is the same no matter what position the stand is in. Pros of the Rode arm: Comes with either a desk mount or a recessed hole mount - Note that using the desk mount adds about 2" of height as it sits on top of the desk, where as the recessed hole mount is flush with the desk. The Desk mount is better with the Rode vs the Heil - the Rode is very stable on the desk, as it's a small cone - another nice thing about the rode, is that the clamp that goes around the back of the desk only sticks out about 1/4 inch - I was able to push my desk right up against the wall with this one. The Heil requires a few inches of clearance behind your desk. So the Rode Desk mount is better than the Heil As for the arm itself, I believe the Heil is a better arm. The Heil has a channel to hide the cable - this one does not. The Heil arm is slightly longer, however it mounts flush with the desk, so if you're trying to clear a monitor, you're just as likely to clear it with the Rode. The Heil also is 5/8" threaded - so you don't need to use an adaptor, which means less chance for jiggling. (My Rode Arm DID include the 5/8 to 3/8 adapter so that is good!) But the big difference is at the end where the microphone attaches - The Heil comes with a slightly longer rod at the end - and this is important if you use a Blue Yeti USB Microphone. I could not use the Blue Yeti on this stand as the connecting rod was too short, and the USB cable would not clear the thumb screws used to tighten the stand. There is an easy solution for this, but it requires an additional purchase (see below) Tips for Yeti Owners: The Yeti is a very popular USB mic (Just look at the review counts here on Amazon) so I'll share some tips for its use. To use the Yeti with this Boom, and without a shock mount, you'll need to buy a small extender - if you don't the USB cable doesn't clear the arm (Hence my comment above about how the Heil has a longer rod) I bought the On Stage QK2X $11 (Also known as QK2B in black $9) on Amazon and that gave the needed clearance, and also made it easy to remove the mic for storage. Note that I don't own the Blue Shock mount so I can't speak to using that here. One user complained that the Yeti was too heavy - that has not been the case for me, so I can only assume that the other user also had a shock mount and perhaps a heavier pop filter. I'll update my review if I note any problems. One more observation: I was concerned if this would clear the top of my monitor, and it just barely does - I can put the arm even with the desk and it clears the screen by about 1/4 inch - however, here's some good news - I found I don't need the arm to be even (parallel) with my desk - by the time you add the Yeti, and the QK2X, the mic is so low that you end up pushing the arm up, which means you have even more clearance over the monitor! Update Feb 2014: I obtained a Heil PL-2T arm a few months ago, so I'm able to fully compare the two. I really wish there was a way to "merge" these two products into a single, best of breed arm. Both arms have internal springs - this is critical as external springs tend to make noise and resonate (as is evidenced by a few Ikea desk lamps I have that use external springs) I believe the interior spring mechanism used by both arms is superior to cheaper arms. The Rode has a better desk clamp and also includes the hole mount for free. The Heil arm is nice in that you can route the cable through it, it has a native 5/8 thread on the end a longer downrod - there's about 2" of clearance between the arm and the start of the threads on the Heil. Overall, I think both are great arms. I'm happy with both. I will say that the 3/8 to 5/8 thread adapter on the Rode arm bugs the heck out of me - the mic on that arm is ALWAYS Loose- it seems impossible to keep it tight. The connection from the Heil PL-2T arm to the Mic feels very solid by comparison, and is superior with 5/8 threaded mics if you're going to move the arm during the broadcast. I hope this review helps in your decision, if it does, please mark it helpful below as that will help other users see the review. ... show more

  • A Perfect Balance of Stiffness and Flexibility
Model Name: PSA1
The RODE PSA1 Swivel Mount Studio Microphone Boom Arm has been the perfect thing for my audio setup. It holds my AT2020 and Samson SP01 spider shock mount without drooping and yet easily moves with gentle pressure. I mounted the arm on the inside corner of an L-shaped desk and I am enjoying this setup. When I'm not using it, the spring-loaded arm lets me lift it over my head and out of the way. If I want to stand while using it, I just drag it to the right level. When I'm sitting and lean back in my chair, it's easy to pull the arm forward, and when I'm facing the other side of the 'L' to work on my laptop that sits at the end of the desk, the RODE PSA1 easily swivels into position for me. It has that right balance of tension that holds the arm in place and flexibility that lets it move without me having to wrangle it to get a response. Installation of the PSA1 is fairly simple: you can clamp the base to your desk, attach the arm, and extend as desired. Tensioners let you contol how much or how little you want the ends to move at the base and the end, though the joint in the middle appears to be fixed in its tension. There is an optional threaded connector that lets you drill through a desktop and mount the arm directly into your desk for a clean professional look, but I'm content with the clamp. When unpacking the unit, pay attention to the bright yellow warning stickers: the arm is spring-loaded, so you want to be holding it together as you cut the stickers and open the product. Otherwise one side of the arm could fly out and hit something. The materials feel very solidly made, arms, spring, and turnkeys all feel like quality parts. The clamp mount feels like it's a bit less sturdy when handling it, but once mounted I've had no problems. Simple velcro strips let you secure your mic cable snugly to the arm. If you're looking for a long boom arm for your microphone, and your mic and mount weigh about the same as my AT2020 and Spider Mount, this should work just fine for you. If you have more weight on the end, some customers report problems getting the arm to stay upright. I've been very happy with the product. ... show more

Model Name: PSA1+
It works as intended, and is very sturdy, it feels like I could throw it in my truck when I eventually move again without worry. Can move it pretty well where I need it, and it will stay put. Very easy setup with alot of extra dodads to use on walls or the desk. The arm is simplistic in design, which is fantastic for me who likes less colorful or eye popping stuff. ... show more
