  • Imho the BEST bluetooth speaker for less than $100
So after reading every review on this speaker. I decided to bite the bullet and order one. First off let me say I have a set of Rockville BPA12 DJ speakers that I absolutely love. But I wanted something smaller and easier to transport for work. So I looked around. I have several friends with Ion systems and Monster systems. And yes for the price they are very nice. But still bigger than I really wanted. I have several 808 speakers and while they are amazing speakers they aren't powerful enough for my intended use. I work in a production factory and it's really loud. Overall sound quality 9/10 loudness 10/10 bass response 6/10 aesthetics 8/10 Cons I noticed and I know Rockville went with red color on the speaker and it's just a slight annoyance to me but when using Bluetooth the speaker shows "blue" on the LCD in red lettering. slightly annoying if you have any form of OCD Also it would be really nice if there was a battery gauge showing how much charge the battery had left at any given time. Even just 4 simple LED lights would be nice I received the Rockbox yesterday before work and couldn't wait to put it to the test. Without charging it I managed to get 5 hours of runtime off the battery before it died which was a pleasant surprise. It will continue to play while plugged in which is a great feature. Overall sound quality is very surprising. The highs and mids sound AMAZING. The bass while not earth shattering or even enough to make them system move has a nice punch to it. for the people in the reviews complaining there is no bass. It's a battery powered 6.5 inch full range speaker not a purpose built subwoofer. When Rockville says this speaker doesn't distort with the volume and bass maxed they don't lie. Saying this speaker is LOUD is almost an understatement. For only being 25 watts rms and 100 watts peak it's a BEAST! I could easily hear the speaker from 25 feet away with 3 people running 2000 watt peak 15 inch DJ speakers less than 100 feet away from me and all kind of normal environmental noise you expect to find in a production welding facility. Almost every one of my coworkers that walked by were surprised at the sound quality and volume level out of such a small package. The Bluetooth connected flawlessly every time I tried a connection and never dropped even almost 70 feet away. For less than 100 dollars this is about the best speaker you can find and I highly recommend it to anyone who's looking for a small speaker with great sound. That won't break the bank. I may post updates after I get a chance to really test battery life and play with more features besides just the Bluetooth Update 3/16/2018 Day 2 of the Rockbox in an industrial environment and got a chance to do a battery life test. From minute one on the battery I had this thing basically maxed out. Volume and bass all the way up and the treble at half way. At 6 and a half hours into the shift it finally died. I knew it wasn't gonna go the 24 hours that Rockville claims with it maxed out, but 6.5 hours on battery with this maxed is still pretty amazing. I could easily see it going 18 to 20 hours under normal listening usage. 24 might be a stretch unless youre listening with it barely turned up to light music. Had several more of my coworkers say they were amazed at how loud it was and how good it sounded for as small as it is. My next update will be later down the road as I get some real runtime on it and see how well it lasts ... show more

  • I have two!
I love a lot of things about this; long battery life, good powerful volume, clarity, durability and portability. I use one next to my table when I am working out or cooking in the kitchen. The other one I keep in my practice room when I play keyboard against songs on Spotify. One of the two I bought in 2018, the other was last year. The only drawback is the FM radio. I can't say it doesn't work, I have picked up stations, but you can only dial them through scanning. (It does not pick up AM stations.) You can't dial in the station manually. I would hope they would modify this in the future. Another problem is that there's no antennae, so you have to shift the whole speaker around to try to angle it to receive a station without static. One solution is to have an FM radio with 1/8" output to connect to the Rockbox. The AUX connection works great. So I rate it highly for the bluetooth compatibility and AUX connection. If the bluetooth does not connect right away, the thing that always worked for me was to switch off the Rockbox, enable bluetooth on the device, then switch the Rockbox back on, it should find it. The drawback is the difficulty of tuning FM stations, which I never do. I have over forty Spotify playlists with thousands of songs, I don't need anybody to DJ for me... ... show more

  • almost like having a boom box
almost like having a boom box with the convenient handle. Its pretty loud depending on your source. It kinda sounds boxy at first. After breaking in the speaker over time, it sounds good or my ears got used to it. Sense bluetooth quickly. The woman's voice confirmation is loud and not the best recording you can hear her pressing the stop button at the studio. Although its funny to mimic her all the time with her accent. I think have a pair would actually sound more acoustically pleasing. I might try that next. good value. lightweight. carry in my old truck some times. ... show more

  • Great features, poor design and poor build quality
This thing has a lot of great features for the price, but the poor design and cheap build quality just about sink all the good stuff. Let's get the negatives out of the way first: This speaker has a very narrow base and is pretty tall which makes it very easy to tip over. Barely nudging it a bit makes it wobble and the tall carrying handle just makes it worse. If this is placed where people need to reach around it or work around it, it's gonna fall. Speaking of falling, if it lands on any hard surface, it's going to crack and it's going to crack badly. First day in a shop environment it fell off a waist high counter and busted the handle off, and cracked the body in 5 different locations, and dislodged the Aux port out of the back connection plate. This speaker looks tough in the photos - it's not, the entire housing is cheap, brittle plastic. It could probably take a fall into a grassy yard or onto a carpeted area inside but a drop on any kind of hard floor is probably going to end with frowny faces all around. The on/off switch is placed on the back for some ridiculous reason, which makes it a giant pain-in-the-butt to reach. That might seem nit-picky but it's really annoying to me. To sum up the negatives; bad design, easily damaged, annoying switch placement. On to the positives: Lotta bang for your features buck. Bluetooth pairs easily and works well. Plays thumb drives up to 16gb, though there is no shuffle/random option for this mode. It'll only play your thumb drives in the order you transferred them in. It'll also play SD cards up to 32gb - I haven't tried the SD card slot, only the thumb drive. It has an Aux port so you can connect devices by a cable if you lack bluetooth. An FM radio is built in and it pulled in a couple of local stations without using an antenna dongle. YMMV on the radio reception, I suspect it's going to be bad w/o the dongle if you're anywhere in the sticks. The volume button is on the front of the unit and all of the relevant other buttons are on the top of the unit. The sound is good, not great. Bass is ok (there are bass and treble knobs to tweak the sound) but it seems shallow considering the size of the unit. It also plays loud enough to hear clearly in a shop environment. Battery life is good, I was able to play it for about 12 hrs at pretty decent volume before recharging. All in all, a good list of features. Final thoughts: The price is this unit's selling point and its Achille's heel. At $55 bucks you're getting a lot of features but you're also getting cheap construction and a sloppy design. I would not recommend this as a portable shop speaker as it's too easily tipped over and too easily damaged. It would be fine as a speaker for the backyard or the beach or it would be fine as speaker to put on a shelf somewhere as long as it was held firmly in place by something (which makes it less portable, I know). Despite breaking my unit I was able salvage it with some duct tape for the cracked housing and new handle that I slapped together from some stuff I had laying around. It still works and it still sounds fine. ... show more

  • Everything Works and Sounds Worthy of a Purchase Everything Works and Sounds Worthy of a Purchase
Sound quality is decent. It's got ok sound to it. If you're expecting deep booming bass and hi fidelity look higher up on the price scale. It can get fairly loud. It can also sound a little tinny at max volume but not bad and distortion is at a minimal. You can adjust the treble and bass to eliminate any harshness or distortion. There's very little to begin with. PA karaoke part is pretty good with it's own mic volume control. The PA sounds like a megaphone but with a little deeper tones. Plenty of volume to it. FM radio works just fine. Still figuring out how to program the stations in and to be able to switch preset channels. 🤔 Its a tiny bit confusing. I purchased a separate little antenna but you really don't need it and it barely improved reception. Save yourself the $5. This is a good low cost item that functions well and gets your feet wet in this type of device. All the knobs and buttons and dial seem to work ok. As for durability longevity we'll see how it holds up but for now this is worth buying. 😉👍 ... show more

  • Best Bang For Your Buck!
I read alot of reviews about this speaker not having enough bass or the treble being too loud, thankfully I decided to try it out for myself. I am an artist that does performances on some of the busiest and noisiest streets in NYC, I have used the JVC Bazooka boom box from the 90's for the past 20 years, the thing weighs 20lbs and I carry two spare 12-volt batteries which are 7lbs each- do the math! For the past two years I have tried NUMEROUS bluetooth speakers and they are ALL useless, people hardly notice I have a soundsystem- each and everyone I returned, as I NEED to attract a crowd. I turned this little box on and BOOM!!!!!!! twice as loud as any other speaker I have tried over the past two years and the battery life is MAGNIFICENT - so far 8 hours on full volume and still going strong! I would happily pay $200 for this little BEAST. Yes it's not the deepest bass in the world, but simply adjust the playback on your phone with settings set for more bass. The highs are a bit tinny, so turn down the treble. The bottom line is this thing is very loud, as I said twice as loud as any speaker i tried, the sound quality is decent and the battery life has the stamina of a marathon runner- for $62 it's a bargain and easily worth twice as much if not more. I 100% recommend it Simon J Walton ... show more

  • It’s not great...or particularly good
It’s probably loud enough for background noise at a job site, and a little better than that at a kids baseball game. Sound quality is slightly better than abysmal. I saw reviews talking about massive bass response, which is absolutely not true. Very very low mid heavy. Muddy sound quality. But it’s almost loud, so there’s that. And it’s a radio. edit: im appending my review, keeping it at 2 stars. i mentioned that its probably loud enough for bakground noise at a jobsite. that is not accurate. i also tried it at my kids baseball game. it was not loud enough. it is loud enough for if you want to play music in your house with a less than desirable sound quality. honestly, i would return this if i could, but its too late at this point. save your money. ... show more
