  • Excellent Vise
What can I say, you spend the money, you get a great vise. I have had other woodworking vises and they were not near as good as this one. This damn thing will hold just about anything you can fit in it. The tolerances were right on and it performs perfectly. Easy to open and close. The quick release function is a real time saver. This is one bad ass vise. So glad I purchased it. Directions for the installation were easy to follow but mounting does take some work. Buy it, you won't regret this purchase. ... show more

  • Quick Release Vise
I have owned and used the American made quick release vise for years, I built a new work bench and went on Amazon to purchase another. The 10" is American made, they also offered the 12" with no comment or detail as to who manufactured it. The new bench is larger so I chose the 12", installed it and found it did not and does not work very well. It was then I read the box and found it was a chinese copy and not the quality US made. I already had it installed, which is quite a task as it fits under the work bench and required a lot of work on your back. I thought it might improve with use, its been a year and hasn't, I deal with it. I feel I was mislead and Rockler was less than forthwrith with there add. Do not purchase the 12" vise. ... show more

  • Good end vise
Reasonably sturdy end vise. The instructions were reasonable. It would have be nice to have a paper template for the end cap and the faceplate of the vise.

  • My husband loves this vise
I bought this for my husband as a shop-gift. It took him a little while to decide how he wanted to mount the vise (it's large), and I helped him with the installation. You have to be careful how you install the quick-release. I think that some of the negative reviews about the feature are coming from folks who installed the release chuck backwards, because that is exactly what we did on the first pass. The vise wouldn't release, and with me under the bench, helping with the install, I was able to describe what I was seeing. That helped my husband figure out that it was linked to the orientation of that quick-release "feature". So I could see how it would be easy to do that if someone is trying to install the vise without assistance, because it is all the way under the bench and you can't really watch AND try to release it yourself at the same time. So what I would suggest from this experience (as the wife who doesn't run the shop but often assists there) is that you get an extra set of hands to do the install smoothly. This vice is one of my husband's favorite new features in there. He says it's a very good quality vise that should last a long time. Other info - you get a relatively large box from Rockler, and it is heavy. We didn't have any issues with damage during shipping, as I have seen reported for many vices including this one. For those of you looking at this as a potential gift, and probably not as someone who often works with vices...this is a substantial piece of metal coming in the mail. The owner will need wood and other materials to complete the installation. Just FYI. ... show more

  • Poorly manufactured
The part that mounts to the underside of the workbench was poorly cast. The center of the face that mounts flush to the rear jaws has a significant protrusion and it's darn near impossible to ensure that it will be mounted squarely because of it. If it's off by a bit, it'll cause racking. I'd suggest getting a different end vise; one that has better manufacturing. Also, one that is NOT sold by Rockler. Their customer service in regards to helping out with this has been uncaring and unhelpful. ... show more

  • It actually works
The instruction took time to understand as some parts unspoken but I was very worried about the quick release as there was no instructions on how to use it. Figured it out by myself but otherwise its a great product

  • Instructions could be clearer .
Needs a Template to make install easier. Haven't used it much. The quick release apparatus is not explained in the instructions.

  • Solid and functional
I built a bench specifically for this vise just installed it this past weekend. This is a simple, functional and very solid vise. I would certainly recommend it. You can use the equipment provided to mark holes for drilling, but a template would be useful for accuracy. I rated it 4 stars not because of the quality, but the directions; they leave a bit to be desired. I believe one review mentioned the lack of guidance for the quick release, and this is true and frustrating to have to guess at while installing the equipment. ... show more
