The carburetor on my 84 T/A was something I thought I'd never want to dig into, but after getting stranded, and spending months trying to figure out what the problem was I figured it was time to tear into it. I bought this book, read it over, and took the carb apart only to find out it was in shambles. The float was saturated, emulsion tubes were just laying in the fuel bowl, the needle was stuck in the seat, and (here's the biggie) the nipple on the TPS had broken and wasn't getting a reading. I replaced the TPS and the float, put on a fresh gasket set and off I went. The car is running BETTER THAN EVER! Thanks to this book I am no longer intimidated by my E4ME Quadrajet.

The book is descriptive with lots of pictures and diagrams. There is no doubt that after reading it you come away with a lot more knowledge and know how regarding the Rochester carburetors. My disappointment stems from the fact that the 1977 model that I bought the book for comes with an extensive emission pre-computer controls system. In this regard I did not find the book adequate. A Chilton's repair and tune-up guide covered that topic far better. Certainly a terrific reference to have in the workshop.

I'm like a lot of you shade tree restorers out there; not much I won't tackle, but certain things are a bit too scary to try. Rebuilding the carburetor was one of those things. I bought this book, as well as the Roe QJet book just to cover my bases. If you want to try a rebuild, I'd recommend you have both books. There are some minor gaps in this book that Roe will cover, and vice versa (for example, Haynes recommends Loc-Tite for throttle body screws, which can work loose and fall in the engine, Roe ignored this potential issue). The Haynes book does a better job covering other Rochester carbs, including a side by side guide for rebuilding the DualJet and QuadraJet, though the side by side instructions can be confusing at times. I was able to get through a QJet rebuild in a very measured, cautious six hours. The carb worked flawlessly the first time, thanks to this book.

Great detailed sharp photos. Explains the do's and don't and the how's and why's. Working on the ME4E Rochester Quadrajet is no picnic. However, after reading this carburetor manual--I had the confidence of getting the job done successfully saving me a bundle of dough. This book is indeed a panacea! My hats off to Mike Stubblefield.

Haynes usually does a pretty good job on thier tech books, this is one in a long list. I'm not a carb guy, but this book helped me sort out some problems and remove some of the mysteries and hocus pocus about how carbs actually function.
