Technology in these tankless units is so advanced from what was available 20 years ago. Impressive. I am a DIY home owner. Was faced with a leaking tank style water heater and found that power-vent style tank heaters were becoming difficult and expensive to buy. Seems like the on-demand heaters was the way to go. This Rinnai unit is a very good value in my opinion. Priced at the lower end, while having impressive features when compared with other manufacturers. My caution to others is to be prepared for expensive installation costs. Plumbing and exhaust changes in my home added up to over $200 in parts plus significant labor to do things right. This is not a fault of this particular unit. It is simply a general reality when converting from a tank style heater to one of these tankless units. I highly recommend buying the recommended valve kit for about $50. I did not buy the kit and was out over $100 with brass hardware to perform the same level of isolation and service connections. Review of the RUCS65iN model: Very pleased with its performance so far. (First week of operation) The Installation manual is organized well and has the info needed to guide a proper installation. It took me a bit to understand rules and restrictions for the exhaust / combustion piping, but the manual did help me get there. Make sure you have sufficient flow at your faucet to get past the minimum flow required before heat kicks in. Once heat is being applied, the unit will automatically adjust the heat input to match the water flow rate such that output temperature is precisely 120 degress F. (Can select higher temps with dip switches.) I was impressed with the amount of condensation that drained out during operation. This unit is so efficient with its heat transfer. PVC pipe works great for exhaust and barely warms up during long operation. ... show more

Water heater was installed almost a week now and still is not working. Ice cold showers and ice cold water throughout the house. Spurts of warm now and again. Support has been a challenge to get thru to. Finally, got thru to tech support this evening and an essential part is not provided and must be purchased separately. Now, $2500 and counting into the unit and plumbing costs….. very disappointed ... show more

Been installed less than a month so far, but the unit has worked perfectly and better than the last unit by far. This was not our first tankless, we had another lower quality unit that was never as good as this one. After 7 years of wondering if tankless was all that great, we switched to this one and wow, so much better. Inside and out and based on performance alone this is a high quality unit. This is not really a model specific review. This is a lower end indoor Gas unit and it works fine. I had been wanting to go tankless for a while, but we hit a pitfall in the transition. I like my hot water extra hot and live in an older home. We got it professionally installed, had them turn up the thermostat 2 notches from the default and found that our kitchen fixtures (which had always suffered from low flow/pressure on the hot side) no longer got hot at all...even with the taps wide open for 20 minutes. If we opened a bathroom hot tap, both the bathroom and the kitchen would then get hot around the same time, within about 1 minute. Some of what I read says that the recirculating models address this limitation somehow but we did not get one of those. Our kitchen taps have always been slow to get hot...putting in the tankless and cranking up the temperature two notches actually caused the hot water to NEVER flow to the kitchen...after turning it down to one notch above the default, it works but is appreciably slower than the old traditional water heater, taking about 5 minutes wide open to get hot when it is the only thing using hot water. Not a showstopper but I certainly wish I had known this was a possibility. Overall I am glad I did it. It works fine in the bathrooms and the laundry. The dishwasher runs long enough that the delay in the kitchen is not a big deal...trying to get hot water from the kitchen tap is a relative pain in the butt however. ... show more

These are amazing. They have finally worked out all the little kinks in tankless water heaters. Also if and when they do break down you can just easily replace whatever small part failed and never have to buy a whole new unit pretty much ever again. Easy to maintain. Make sure to have a professional install these. Very easy to miss or forget something important as there are alot of things you do with these as opposed to standard 50 gallon water heaters and such. Venting is extremely important to get right as well as gas and electricity. However once you have one of these incredible water heaters you'll never want to go back. Hence why everytime we buy a house we replace regular water heater. And make sure to get a good water softener and whole home filtration system ... show more
