When you get this, set it up and turn it on, mine was on volume 60/100. But it sounded great, no distortion, clean and crisp. I turned it down half way, sound was still very smooth. The lowest volume before zero was 6/100, and it's fairly quiet. This speaker, and others like it, doesn't have the fine volume control like a knob. I didn't play it louder than 60, but there's no crackling or distortion, just plain good quality sound, like a $100+ speaker. Once turned on, the blue light is on ready for bluetooth connection, which was easy as pie. The build is solid, not a single flimsy feeling piece. Even the silicone cover to the USB-C area is sturdy and plugs and seals well. The mesh material feels great, like quality nylon or polyester, whatever it is made of, no rips, tears, or signs of frays anywhere. The buttons, just like all that look like this, are a bit on the harder side to push down. I suppose that is necessary to prevent accidental button changes since the device is portable. LEDs are bright and clear, not blinding. If there's one thing to gripe about, it appears this unit is designed to stand on one end. Saw a guy online that laid it down with the buttons facing up. But mine kept rolling to where the front label pointed downwards, upside down, like loaded dice in Vegas, and buttons on the back side where I can't see it. It's really meant for standing imo. Oh, I guess, the extra bass button, was listening to Boston's Hitch a Ride, as they have nice intricate bass guitar, could not really tell the difference. I don't really have musical ears, but didn't really hear a difference. So for this price range, it does appear the 30w speakers can handle high volume, and it is loud. My previous 20w, slightly smaller unit would crackle at around 60/100 volume. My speaker is gray, nice and pleasant, not too bright or dull or sad, very neutral. I waited a year to review this product to ensure it still worked and that the sound quality remained consistent. It has definitely met all of my expectations! I listen to a lot of audio books. When I take a shower and get ready for the day or if I'm cleaning, I turn on my Libby (library) app and listen for 2-6 hours at a time most days of the week. It took a few speakers to find the perfect one because some have too much bass (they're clearly designed only for music) and those make it hard to clearly hear all of the words. Others seem to have one tone or the volume isn't quite right. This speaker sounds great with music! And it's perfect for my audio books! In fact, it's so clear that if there's a male narrator my dogs frantically look for the man "talking" in the bathroom because they hear him but can't see him! 😂 ... show more

I’ve had this speaker for 3 years, I’ve taken it to multiple countries, been around lakes, rivers and oceans. In sand, mud and grass and it still works perfectly. It’s super durable and has good sound for the price.

    • Overall a good speaker with one major flaw
This is a good speaker overall. It's large and sturdy feeling. The bass is a bit overwhelming but you get used to it quickly and it's probably better to have more bass than less in a portable speaker. I mainly listen to talk shows (news) and podcasts so it's not a big deal to me either way. I frequently take this speaker in the shower with me where it gets splashed with water. So far, so good; no problems with that. The battery life also appears to be very good. I've only started using this since Christmas 2022 although it was purchased in July of 2022. My main complaint is that the controls on the side are black like the rest of the speaker. There is no differentiation other than the controls are slightly raised so you can feel them, however, they are impossible to see except unless you hold the speaker up closely in good light. This is a problem if you're in a situation where you just want to quickly reduce the sound level -- it's very hard to find the area to press to reduce the sound level. More often than not I wind up changing the color or wind up turning off the speaker altogether which then requires resetting the device it is streaming from. Which may not be immediately handy (as when I'm in the shower). Pain in the neck. Why they felt it necessary to separate the 'up volume' from the 'down volume' with the two other controls (on/off and "M" for changing the color display) is also beyond me. Just makes it that much harder to 'feel' and find. I have taken some "white out" and marked the up and down volume controls. I suspect this is something I'll have to keep doing as with pressing, the white-out will likely peel off. We'll see, but it's the only thing I can of doing to try to eliminate this problem. So, my rating is neither wonderful nor awful. The sound is fine. The quality is very good. But this button situation reduces its value for me. ... show more
