I love this cnc! It’s worth it! There is a learning curve with the cad and cam stuff, I’m using the personal version of autocad. It cuts wonderfully and has a very good control system! The price is great for an entry level machine. Assembly was easygoing and straight forward. It’s a solid build also. Very sturdy frame and setup. Mine did come with the buttons labeled wrong.. but that’s not a big deal I just relabeled them with a label maker I do think the controller should Be inside an electrical enclosure with filtered ventilation and keep dust out of the electronics. ... show more

  • Fantastic, rigid mill, makes machining Aluminum very easy
Loving the mill, works excellently, super easy to mill 1/8" Aluminum with 1/8" mill bit at 200mm/min 0.35mm depth and 2.5 on a DeWalt Router. I had an issue with the 400w spindle with came bent and Sainsmart shipped me a new one within 24 hours. Not loving candle, it makes z-probe more complex than it needs to be - candle also causes machine to spontaneously home after triggering the limit switches. (5 stars as my Candle issues are not Genmitsu issues) ... show more

  • getting into CNC routing
I have been an avid wood worker for decades and decided to look into buying a 3D printer for making jigs and the like. I purchased a Bambu Labs A1 and have enjoyed making some one hundred items over the last 18 months. 3D printing has become very sophisticated and my unit worked right out of the box. The Bambu Studio software handles the controls. The touch screen is intuitive on loading/unloading the filament, and other operations. A 3D printer has one nozzle as a tool, the software loads the stl file (the file code that contains the design the printer understands) and takes care of all the rest, i.e. feed rate and Gcode motion. You can either create your own designs with CAD software, or download thousands of files on line, most for free. A CNC router is not the same as a 3D printer. First it takes three software platforms, not one, has a myriad of tools, i.e. bits to perform the cutting. I did a lot of on line research before purchasing the Genmitsu 4030 V2. It was rated highest on several review sites. The size and price was what I was interested in. I made the purchase on Amazon and the unit arrived the next day. Assembly was as smooth as described in a number of reviews. It is well made and precisely fabricated, a solid piece of machinery. The one flaw is the connectors for all of the cables for the motors, read back, and limit switches. They are made from a cheap pot metal. The threads on the connectors cross threaded on half of the cables making it impossible to complete the connection. The jacks on the control unit were not tightened internally and started to spin when connecting the cables. This is a concern for long term operation should one or more of the cables get loose over time. The hurdles begin from this point with the software. As I said, three platforms are required. There are lots of CAD platforms for creating models, many are free, not all are compatible with what ever computer you are using. I have been using Sketchup for years and am very comfortable with that platform and learning curve. I am not going to review CAD programs, just be aware that they all have different capabilities and some have steep learning curves. Once you have the stl file they create, the next step is to convert that into Gcode that the CNC will eventually utilize to control the router with a CAM (computer aided manufacturing) software) program. There are a number of options to choose, I picked Kirimoto as it is free, works in a web browser, and highly recommended. You need the internet to use this, but they also have a downloadable version that can run native in your computer should your shop not have WiFi, but that version will not have access to software updates. The catch here was that I spent a complete afternoon trying to get it to work in Google Chrome on my MacBook Air. Every step of the way was impeded by some bug. Dozens of Google searches for AI solutions did not allow me to make progress. Before giving up, I decided to try a different browser. I pulled up Safari, found and opened Kirimoto, and poof, worked instantly! I then googled to ask why Safari and not Chrome worked. The response had something to do with memory cash, computer limitation, and version of operating system with Chrome. Beware of the combination of software and hardware you are trying to use. Nothing up front warns you about compatibility. If AI were not available on line, you would be lost for sure. Now that you have the Gcode, moving onto the next stage of the process is software to control the CNC. With the flash drive included with Genmitsu, two software packages were choices, Candle and UGS (Universal Gcode Sender). Loaded UGS to perform the initial motion and limit switch tests. Using the Wizard on the UGS software, all of the motors and limit switches worked as expected indicating that the wiring was correct. I turned to Candle as it was described as easier to use than UGS, but with limited capabilities. I was able to load Candle on my MacBook Air running IOS 12.7.6. I needed to Google a number of times to find out why it was not working. On Candle, I was able to zero in all three axis, but the send button was not on the application screen. Google suggested turning off the CNC and rebooting the software. I did this and the send button appeared, but sending the Gcode got stalled after 9 commands. Turns out the buffer in the controller has limited memory and cannot accept Gcode quickly and stalls out according to google. Google suggested increase the time between sending commands. That did not work. Then it suggested setting to “buffered” mode but that was nowhere to be found in the menu. I gave up on Candle, an extremely buggy program. Next I went back to UGS for the first trial run. This program is more capable than Candle and hence more complicated, but I got it to work, breaking a couple of router bits in the process. Finally I was ready for the first trial run after many hours of head scratching. What is really required is a sequencing software that can do all three, and it exists, called Easal. It is free for the first month, then for full 3D use after the trial period there is a fee. I gave it a try only to find out after a short struggle that it would not work on my operating system. Perhaps someday there will be other options to make CNC machining as easy as 3D printing. In the interim, be wary of what you are getting into. When I was able to make my first CNC routed piece, there was a great sense of accomplishment! ... show more

  • Perfect CNC - Highly recommend
I spent weeks going through all the CNC manufacturers on the net and Amazon (of course). With so many to choose from, it was an exhausting process. Luckily, I was able to find the Genmitsu 4030 V2 and ordered it. It arrived in just 2 days (Amazon, of course) and I was anxious to get it up and printing. It took less than an hour to unpack and assemble - it comes partially assembled. I am amazed at the construction - every part is cut and milled to perfection. The directions were easy to follow - even the cabling was well marked and there were pictures, a good thing. I do much better when there are pictures. I spoke to several users who had various different CNC machines and received a lot of feedback on what I needed, as a new CNC user. I wanted a midsize unit, with enough creative space and a good starting path. Ultimately, that led me to the Genmitsu PROVerXL 4030 V2. It is large enough for my use and can also be expanded when I am ready for a larger unit. Software: I had been researching the various vendors to see what software is used on a PC for direct connection. Genmitsu had it covered. The directions were easy to follow and took me about 20 minutes to install and my PC was directly connected. No copying files to a memory stick. Just design and send. You can also use remote access on your cell phone. Not sure that will ever be needed, but it's there. I have also found other software that work with CNCs - my current trial is with Easel (free for 30 days). There is also Fusion 360 and Vectric which I will also be trialing. I am also impressed with the support - I had several questions to ask and I got immediate responses from Jamie. This was a HUGE plus for me. I've been very impressed with the quality of the machine and the support - those are the two main reasons I purchased the Genmitsu. The machine also does metal , acrylic, MDF Almost forgot - the machine does laser engraving. Something I will be delving into as a side use. Having fun and creating things - what better time spent?   • Failed on first power up.
I received this today and was eager to get it assembled and up and running. I took my time during the assembly and followed all the instructions that were provided. While there were some glaring omissions in the assembly manual it was not hard to figure out what each steps purpose was and I got the unit ready for its first power up. I plugged it in, and watched as the lights around the buttons pulsated, the fan ramped up and spooled down. I was not sure if this was normal or part of the initial start up. It was the smell of burnt electronics that gave it away, this was not normal and there was a defective component somewhere. I shut it off, double checked all the connections, and went about tracking down the smell. It turns out the Y2 stepper motor was ripping hot and was the source of the offending "magic smoke" smell. If I unplugged that motor the controller booted up fine, the lights were solid and the fan steady. If I plugged the Y2 cables into the Y1 motor the same results were achieved. This means that the Y2 motor is defective. This is a brand new unit. This is an out of the box failure and really highlights a failure in the quality control system where these are built. It is going back into the box and being returned. I have no need for a piece of equipment that has a zero hour failure that is so easy to test and detect when it was made and put into the box. There are many other CNC machines of this size out there and for me this is a sign of a future plagued with early failures and issues.   • Better than I had hoped
In January I purchased the Genmitsu 4030 V2 with the extension to make it 6060. So far it is a great machine. I am trying to learn the software while trying to make sure the machine is working as it should. So far it is great and I have used it every day since I received it. Setup was easy. The box it all came in was great. It was well packed. So far I couldn't be happier. It is very solid. It has ball screws so it should last a long time. The step motors are very powerful. It is everything as described. I did have two issues. 1. the controller box had a couple of loose wire connections. I brought them to the attention of the Tech people at Sainsmart and withing hours they had shipped me a replacement. No cost or hassle. 2. I purchased the Genmitsu 1.25 router with the machine. After a couple of hours it started arcing inside and stopped. Again I notified customer service and after sending them my invoice a new one was in the mail. This was the router - not the machine. I'm new to CNC but this has been a great experience so far. I learn something new everyday and there are user groups that can help if you have a problem. If you are on the fence about this machine - don't be. It has treated me well and I expect it to continue to do so. I did a lot of comparison shopping and this soon became my top choice. ... show more

  • I want to say it's good, but have had so many part failures
Sainsmart Genmitsu is one of the largest players in CNC and this area of devices, but it's not been an easy of fun experience so far despite effort on my side and good support from their support team. It's a big investment for a home user and it takes up some hard to find space, so it has to be functional, and after 2 months and 3 major issues, it's been out of service waiting for repair parts from China for more time that i've had it available to use. As soon as i've had a day or two to progress a project, it's failed again, and so if i could have returned it, i would. Waiting for their replacement parts to arrive caused me to miss their return window. Frustrating to say the least. So what failed: - 1st was a microswitch for the z-axis limit. Had to be replaced, but the issue was a broken cable which i replaced and diagnosed myself. Delay 2 weeks. - 2nd was the control board seeming to make random axis movements on the X-axis. That was never resolved, but after replugging and plugging the connectors it 'seemed' to go away. - 3rd was the spindle run-out which was way out of spec >1mm. This issue made a racket and made all your tools cut a larger cut than you'd like. - 4th was a new controller board needed as the z-axis gets a signal to dive down with any input to the control board, even when you try to do a $$ GRBL settings listing. I expect after 4 failures, that it's not the end of the journey sadly. When you add 2-3 weeks shipping from China for all replacements, you can see why it's been gathering dust more than generating dust. I have yet to dare to try harder materials than wood. As a note, i have been using 3D printers from Prusa for 3 years without anything like these types of issues. My view today is that CNC, and certainly those products from Sainsmart Genmitsu are just not stable enough to be called a tool yet. They're a tinkerers project, but not ready to be a workhorse to make things. ... show more

  • Love it!
Several points to make your purchase decision easier: - Machine arrived quickly and was well packaged. - Assembly was well described and easy to perform. - If you are new to CAD/CAM and CNC (like I was) be prepared to spend some time learning/educating yourself. I went with Vectric VCarve (CAD/CAM) and UGS (that “talks” to your CNC) software. - I purchased the SainSmart CFL55 laser module to use with my 4030 PROVerXL (v2) - see pic - and it came with an incorrect cable. I emailed SainSmart and they responded quickly, asking for some additional information. They shipped the correct cable quickly and explained the mounting procedure. It worked perfectly! I think their customer support is superb. I am totally happy with my purchase and will be upgrading my unit to a larger size as soon as I’m comfortable with all of the processes.
