  • Great old games

Super Amazing!!!

  • Safety Risk Battery Overheat
Color: Rg 577-purple
The console appears to present a potential safety risk. During operation, the screen suddenly goes black, the device becomes unresponsive, begins continuous vibration, and rapidly overheats while emitting a burning smell. Once this occurs, the device cannot be controlled or stopped through normal user interaction. Despite reporting these symptoms, I was directed by customer support to a troubleshooting page and links to purchase replacement parts. In my view, this approach is not appropriate given that the issue involves possible overheating and battery-related safety concerns, which should be handled through a safety-focused resolution process rather than consumer-led repair attempts. ... show more

★ PROS: ✦ Stunning 5.48" AMOLED display with rich, vibrant colors that make retro games look absolutely gorgeous ✦ Dimensity 8300 chip is a powerhouse - emulation is buttery smooth from NES all the way up to PS2 and GameCube ✦ Android 14 means full access to the Play Store and a clean, responsive OS experience ✦ Hall effect joysticks are a game changer - zero drift, precise and satisfying to use ✦ WiFi 6E and Bluetooth 5.3 make wireless gaming and streaming seamless ✦ The purple colorway is stunning - looks sleek and premium in hand ✦ Battery life is impressive for a device packing this much horsepower ✘ CONS: ✦ Slight learning curve if you're new to Android handheld emulators ✦ Gets mildly warm under heavy emulation loads, though nothing alarming ✦ Could use a few more built-in game app suggestions for newcomers ✿ SUMMARY: The GiipGoop RG557 is hands down one of the best retro handheld consoles I've used. The combination of a gorgeous AMOLED screen, top-tier Dimensity 8300 performance, and rock-solid Hall joysticks makes it a dream device for emulation enthusiasts. Android 14 keeps things flexible and future-proof, and the purple finish genuinely turns heads. • Good but Pricey
Color: White
I will start by saying this console does what it is supposed to do. You can play a wide array of ROMs along with Android apps on this and there is a good amount of customization for the controls, performance, and LED light rings. You are essentially getting an Android phone with some custom tools to make it work as a gaming system. All of the emulators come pre-installed but an important note if you didn't read the description, you need to provide the ROMs and get them setup in the corresponding Emulators yourself. Performance wise, it works very well. I played some new Android games along with some old ROMs and never had an issue. I have noticed that the buttons can sometimes not register and the controls are fairly compact. The fan noise was minimal even at high demands and I never felt like it got overly hot to use. My biggest sticking point is price. This device can do some neat things but it also costs more than the Switch 1 did at release. For my money, I would rather have a Switch than this. It is a neat tool but not nearly as polished or powerful enough to justify the price point in my opinion. ... show more

  • Anbernic RG557. Absolutely amazing.
Color: White
Not sure why the title says that it's GiipGoop. It's an Anbernic running the latest 1.26 firmware. This is an immensely powerful Android device for running all types of emulators including PS3. That's right! PS3. I've been enjoying some old arcade classics like The Simpsons Arcade Game and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Turtles in Time. Then Wii games like Mario Galaxy 2 and Zelda Breath of the wild. PS3 Soul Caliber works but with slight glitching. This is an emulator optimization issue and will probably improve over time. PS3 Afterburner is super smooth. Lighter, less 3d intense games tend to work better on RPCX. Handles Nintendo 64, PS1, PS2 without any issues. Device comes loaded with all the emulators you need but no games (for legal reasons). Bios files are not included from what I can tell and you will need to source your own. Buttons are nice crisp, joysticks are nice and accurate without and drift (they also include addon knobs to make it more comfortable for larger fingers). Screen is nice and bright (I don't believe ambient light detector is present on the screen so you will need to manually adjust the screen). Shape is nice and comfortable. I would probably had grip stickers on the back of the device to make it even more comfortable. Battery life is decent on high performance (about 2 hours). You should be able to get more by running it on stock setting but there will be stutters in higher end emulations for new gen systems. Here's the one draw back, the speakers on this device are terrible. You might not notice it much when playing games but if you sideload youtube app and try watching a video, you'll immediately notice their lack of quality. I wish there was a way to upgrade those speakers. Overall, love this device. This seller really needs to change the listing title so people know it's an Anbernic device. ... show more

  • Powerful Little Handheld With Great Performance and a Few Minor Ergonomic Quirks
Color: Rg 577-purple
The RG557 is a surprisingly capable handheld system that checks a lot of boxes. If you want a portable device for classic console emulation, Android gaming, or even playing Roblox without using your phone, this unit handles all of it with ease. Performance and Display: The performance is excellent for a device this size. It loads games quickly, faster than some desktop systems I have used, and it keeps everything running smoothly. The AMOLED display is bright, sharp, and very colorful, which really enhances the experience. Controls and Ergonomics: The ergonomics are solid and comfortable for longer play sessions. My only real criticism is the joystick size. They are a little too small, especially if you have larger hands. The included stick caps help a bit, but bigger joysticks would have improved precision and comfort. Aside from that, the controller layout feels natural and the device sits well in the hands. Features and Software: One of the strongest features is how ready the system is right out of the box. It comes with a wide range of emulators preloaded (without games), so it is easy to start playing classic systems immediately. It also runs Android apps and games without any issues. In fact, it is so powerful that it may be overkill for simple mobile games, but if you prefer a controller over a thin smartphone, this handles them extremely well. Final Thoughts: This is a versatile and powerful handheld that really shines with emulation and Android gaming. The display looks great, the performance is fast, and the overall build quality feels solid. The only drawback is the small joysticks, but that is not enough to take away from everything the device does well. If you want a portable gaming system that feels more like a real controller than a phone, the RG557 is an impressive choice. ... show more

  • Powerhouse emulator hardware, but needs tinkering!
Color: Rg 577-purple
This is a very snazzy Android retro emulator handheld. Love the transparent purple case, smooth control sticks with RGB lighting, a VERY vibrant 1080p AMOLED screen, 12GB RAM, running Android 14 with Wi-Fi 6E, and a 5500mAh battery. Checks a lot of boxes. It really excels with comfort in the hands for long play sessions, smooth high-end emulation (every retro game you can think of, PS2, GameCube, some PS3/Wii), strong Android gaming and cloud streaming, with excellent ergonomics and a gorgeous display that pops. However, it definitely needs tinkering out of the box. Nothing preloaded so you're on your own getting the roms, and you'll need to know how and which emulator to boot them from. Price is definitely steep compared to other options, and the battery does drain kinda quick when you're emulating some higher end things. Overall though, it's a powerful, eye-catching beast for enthusiasts prioritizing screen quality, comfort, and raw power for retro-to-modern gaming, but not ideal if you want plug-and-play reliability or better value without tinkering. ... show more
