  • Coolest Handheld Ever
Color: Ice Blue
I thought I was overhyping myself for this but honestly this is the coolest device I've ever owned. It's basically just a solid underpriced android in a clam shell. But you can do so many cool things with that. It is not plug and play, I have been excessively configuring this thing for a month. But only because I keep finding so many cool things you can add to it. Emulators, source ports for classic games, lower weight PC games. Streaming from my PC and PS5. It's not hard if you just wanna setup a frontend and play PS2, Gamecube, ect... Most games run great. Others are just hell to emulate even on some PCs, so that's not really the device's fault. Check into compatibility for what you wanna play. A lot of games can run smoothly at 3× their native resolution. There are source port projects for a ton of classic games, mainly every boomer shooter. Most if them easy to setup. When you get more obscure, you will have to configure a lot of things. But the retroid comes with a lot of great tools to do that. Such as a virtual mouse(check handheld settings), custom sensitivity, and screen mapping.(Swipe right. Or turn this off from your top menu. Top menu also lets you customize lights, fan, ect...) The form factor isn't always perfect. But it's very functional, enough so to relax and enjoy games. The battery life seems pretty good for a handheld and it charges very quickly with a fast charger. Like 0-100 in less than an hour for hours to play time. The device makes google services optional, and apparently you can even swap to linux if you don't like android. It gives the user a lot of control. Sound is not ideal but can be made acceptable with some configuration. The only thing I can't guarantee here is how long the hardware lasts as i've only had it for a month. It seems easy enough to take apart and maintain. However the battery for example is custom(probably why it works so well), and not sold officially by moorechip to my knowledge. Only knock offs to a very limitted capacity by 3rd party sellers. So you'll really wanna be careful with that. No idea if triggers can be replaced. If I end up in some nightmare scenario I will certainly be back to adjust my review. I've read people have had problems with the hinges so I got the ice blue model which is made of a stronger plastic that doesn't seem to have this issue. The other models have revised hinges by now and should also be safe, but I didn't wanna risk it. If this thing even lasts a solid 2 years, I'd still be satisfied and probably have to buy another one. I only hope enough people get into these that this ecosystem stays supported. This thing is in my estimation, about as powerful as a Switch for $100 less. So much more compact and portable. You can do so much more with. And I will always love clamshell devices. If you're into tinkering and you've fantasized about being able to play this or that on a DS, this is pure wish fullfillment. ... show more

  • Premium Handheld Gsming
Color: 16bit Us
Let me preface this review by saying this is my first experience with a retro handheld. I am very impressed with this device. The build quality is phenomenal, it feels very premium. The controls are wonderful to use, blending comfort and function. The hinge feels very sturdy and allows for multiple viewing angles. The screen looks amazing as well. It’s bright and beautiful. The size is perfect for portability while still remaining comfortable for extended sessions. I have decently large hands and I’m not having any issues with cramping or numbness. This device does require a lot of tinkering to setup, so do keep that in mind. Games are not preloaded but many systems are. Streaming/Cloud gaming is relatively easy to setup and works wonderfully depending on your internet connection. I would highly recommend this device to anyone seeking an all in one handheld that remains extremely portable. You will want to purchase a TF card, as the internal storage is limited. ... show more

  • A fantastic OLED display, powerful SOC, and comfortable controls make this a great clamshell! A fantastic OLED display, powerful SOC, and comfortable controls make this a great clamshell!
Color: Ice Blue
This product was designed and made by Retroid Pocket, who have made several excellent handheld consoles over the years. The sticks are smooth and accurate, and the buttons and D-Pad comfortable and precise. The size makes it pocketable for some, possibly too bulky for others. I can carry it in my work pants or jeans with no trouble, but it is a bit heavy so you know you have it in your pocket! The battery life is variable, but very good for this size of console. If you're playing older retro games from the 8 and 16 bit eras, you'll probably get many hours of gameplay. Playing something newer, like something from your Gamecube or PS2 collections will use the battery more quickly, and this is also affected by screen brightness and audio volume. In short, I think it has excellent battery life, but that life is variable baed on what you're doing with the console. The batter is 5000mah, and for the size I feel this is a very good capacity. The build quality feels excellent, and the hinge looks and feels solid. I got the semi-transparent teal model and it looks fantastic. The controls are fairly quiet for a Retroid Pocket device, but not silent -- my spouse isn't bothered by it but everyone is different. The screen is remarkable, and everyone who I've shown this to has made a positive comment. OLED is amazing, and this is a roomy screen with vivid color. It also gets dim enough for night time play in bed. Again, this is perception and will vary from person to person. Software is Android, so if you've used an Android phone you will have some point of reference. If you're like me and don't use Android phones, there is a learning curve, but there are countless guides, both video and written, for setting up an Android gaming device. While the setup is made easier with experience, this is a solid implementation of Android and I found setup to be easy. One key point: this does not come wit any paid games. If you want to play your favorite retro games, you'll have to supply them. I would not hand this to my mother (also a gamer) without setting it up first, but if this is a gift I feel the person for whom it's for should have some idea or some resources at hand. Web searches will help. There are many free or inexpensive Android games, and this system has good driver support, so playing lots of games is not a difficult proposition. If you have a "Play" account through Android, you can sign in and have access to all your previous purchases and add to your collection as well. Is it fun? The answer for me is, yes, it's quite fun. If you like gaming and enjoy physical controls, it's hard to imagine not having fun with this device. I find it to be a comfortable device with a stunning screen and excellent controls. Can I nit pick? Sure, but my nit picks are technical and would take too long to explain and probably not even be on the radar of the average consumer. I love using this device! Finally, is this a good value for money? This depends. If you want to play old 8-bit games that used a joystick and one button this seems like overkill. If you're all about experience, and you are willing to pay for nice things, this might still be fantastic with those old games. Certainly I play some games I still have from the "2600" days and I enjoy them immensely. This will play PS2 and GC games that you have in your personal library, but you'll have to figure out how to do that yourself. This is also a great streaming device, and movies look fantastic on this screen. It's also a great game streaming device, and I enjoyed playing PC games via Steam Link on this handheld -- it was a great experience. In addition to the onboard storage, there is a mSD slot, and I have a 1TB card in mine. Format it exFAT and you can configure the card on your computer then put it in the Retroid Pocket Flip 2 and off you go. This is my favorite gaming device. The combination of portability, quality of controls, gorgeous screen, and quality feel make it a winner for me. As a child I dreamt of a day where things like this might exist -- and now I have it in my hands -- this brings immense joy. 5/5 stars ... show more

  • This is soooo good.
Color: Ice Blue
I bought this thing figuring that I would have fun playing with it on airplanes. I play with this thing almost every day. One of the best games is just tinkering with the different settings (like the joystick lights) and loading up all the games. I have definitely gotten my money's worth out of this thing already. Battery life is good. The form factor is great because it easily fits in your pocket, and the screen is protected. The quality of the buttons is great. ... show more

  • Awesome product
This thing is so good for the price and the shipping only took a week. Thankfully, I had a busy week, so it showed up in no time. I haven’t had much trouble with games maybe it’s because I’m “tech savvy.” Anyway, I’d recommend this to anyone wanting to play old games on the go. The size is perfect for pocketing, though I wear bigger pants. 5 stars, easy! ... show more

  • Amazing device with questionable build quality Amazing device with questionable build quality
I absolutely love this device. It helped reignite the love and fun that I’ve been missing in my gaming hobby lately, I was taking it everywhere and playing constantly, it was a blast to set up (took a while and is more complicated than other devices I’ve used, but it also can do more), and with the 3d printed grip I bought it was super comfortable. I ultimately sent it back though, as I ordered it as the issues with the hinge durability were showing up, and after about 26 or 27 days my hinge developed a crack as well. I could have taken advantage of their generous exchange policy, but I figured it would just keep happening until I was out of warranty and out of luck. This truly is an amazing device, great portability, solid battery life, beautiful screen, the buttons feel nice but are a little loud. I was able to emulate up to WiiU and ps2 really easily, and it plays native android games really well too. At this point, I love the value, but the AYN Thor base model is only slightly more expensive for a dual screen device with very similar specs for around $30-50 more depending on sales, and AYN typically has better build quality than Retroid (owned by the same parent company). The hinge issues are very unfortunate, and hopefully newer batches can fix it, and if you can snag a Flip 2 on sale around $190-200 I would absolutely jump on it. Just don’t skimp on the memory card, if you’re new to emulation, your roms will take up more space than you think for the newer systems, and you’ll run out of space quick. Would absolutely recommend a 1tb micro sd for the Flip 2 at minimum, since the internal storage is only 128gb and that fills up insanely fast. Overall, if you don’t care about 2 screens and want a clamshell retro console, this absolutely should be something you consider. Once they get build quality fixed, this will be a no brainer. ... show more

  • Retroid Pocket Flip 2 Review
Color: 16bit Us
One of the best handhelds I have ever purchased in my life, I am not exaggerating. It is a clamshell handheld that runs the Snapdragon 865. It has a beautiful 5.5 inch AMOLED screen that makes games look vibrant and sharp. The design instantly reminded me of the Nintendo DS era with a modern twist into it, and being able to fold it shut makes it incredibly easy to carry around without worrying about the screen getting scratched. The performance and power has been excellent for everything I wanted to play. It runs retro games smoothly and handles systems like PSP, GameCube, and PS2 much better than I expected. The AMOLED display really makes colors stand out, especially in darker games and RPGs. Everything feels smooth and responsive. The build is plastic but is very premium feeling and they do not cut corners. The buttons feel nice to press, the sticks are accurate, and the hinge feels solid when opening and closing the device. Battery life has been very good for me and it stays comfortable to use during long gaming sessions. This this isn't the easiest to use as it requires tinkering but if you get passed that hurdle it becomes one of the best devices you ever used. I highly suggest this if you are looking for a clamshell with the ability to play high end games with a pretty good battery life. The compatibility has a huge range of systems including PSP, Dreamcast, GameCube, PS2, and many classic retro consoles. It really feels like a sandbox device since you can customize almost everything to your liking, from emulators to frontends and performance settings. Caveats: It can heat up when playing more demanding games for long periods of time. The shoulder buttons are a little loud in quieter rooms. It is not the most ergonomic handheld because the design is somewhat boxy. There are NO preloaded games included, so you will need to install your own emulators and game files yourself. 9.7/10 ... show more

  • Exactly as described and what I was looking for.
Great console, very comfortable to hold, and the screen is a very good size and is very clear and colorful. I found a good video online in order to set it up and that was easy as well. I must say however that if you don't have basic computer skills you might have trouble setting up this device. It requires some knowledge for micro SD cards and formatting them. But if you just follow the instructions on the videos, it's not that difficult it just can be time consuming and sometimes tedious. But the device is fantastic once you get everything set up, so far my favorite handheld console. ... show more
