  • 90's kid's dreams revisited.
ToysRUs handheld toys. This little screen is what we wanted as a kid but we lacked the technology. Interestingly, there is no POST or loading of an OS. Just turn it on and it's ready before you are. It has Dr. Mario on there... That's one of the games I couldn't get my hands on. This is my first NES aside from Gameboy color gen1: I miss donkey kong adventures, we had to pass that one around and drain a fortune in batteries as car children. This may be a newer presentation to test their product as I didn't see the option to buy a second controller from the merchant. Hands down approval. I'll fuss over plugging it in when the kids come over. That's an amazing buy, and adults who see it will want one especially at that price. It's so adorable. A huge reason why this console system is irresistable is due to it's compactness. If I were required to leave my belongings behind as I couldn't fit them into my shed, then this little guy is a huge asset. I could buy a shelf and use that. What is also nice, it's not attached to the internet. We have become so used to being constantly connected that those newbies don't understand what it was like to not have internet. My MIL didn't know that turning a computer on and off isn't good for them, the same can be said about big rigs. If you like this idea, check out the gaming systems in a tin--- take them to work to get your time back. ... show more

  • Some fun, but bring AAA batteries
This retro console is rather inexpensive, so if you have realistic expectations, it's not too bad. In the box you get the mini TV with the 3 screen, a fake antenna attachment, an AV cable, a micro USB cable, and the controller. The fake antenna is just for looks. The AV cable is unlikely to work with most modern TVs since it's not HDMI. The mini TV can be charged through the microUSB port on the side. Charging takes well over an hour and it probably lasts for 4-6 hours of continuous playtime. The mini TV also has a mono speaker, a knob to turn it on and adjust volume, and a couple buttons in the front to pair the controller. The controller looks like an old school NES controller, but it doesn't have any wires. In the back you have to pop off a difficult-to-remove cover and you have to supply your own AAA batteries for it. So while the mini TV has a built-in rechargeable battery, the controller does not. The games are a hodge podge of ROMs and modded ROMs. There are a couple winners in here, though, like River City Ransom, Contra, and several shooters that are surprisingly good. There are also a ridiculous number of modded ROMs that use a Mario sprite playing some other game, or a different sprite playing a Mario game....like mix up where Mario has to stomp on Excite Bike guys instead of koopas. The menu system doesn't make much sense since it's broken up into categories, but the types of games don't always match the categories. You are just going to have to click stuff, browse, and experiment with the different games until you find ones you like. Overall, this thing is fine for a little fun or to give to small kids. But it's also confusing. Like, why even bother with wireless controllers if you are playing off a 3 inch mini screen? You have to be so close anyway that they just could have made the controller corded and then you wouldn't need batteries. And while we are at it, at this point, why not make the system a couple dollars more and just throw in a second controller to make things more fun? If this thing was ten dollars more, it would be 2-3 stars, but considering the cheap price, it's an ok 4-star item. ... show more

  • This is a fun little emulator that emulates NES games and some others
This is a pretty cool little emulator. They did a great job on the look but it is a tad flimsly but as long as you don't drop it you'll be good. It can be played on the 3 inch screen that is contained on the unit itself or on a tv if you hook it up with the included A/V cables. My HD was able to connect to this fine except on some games every so often it will switch resolutions making the game bigger and not fully fit on the screen but only for a couple seconds. Not sure why but there may be a fix I will have to look into it but it wasn't a huge deal anyway. This is as bare bones as it gets when it comes to emulation and roms as you only get a screen with 6 options that relate to a game type and then when clicked a list of the games in that category will come up and you can use the up and down arrows to get to the next page. you can turn it off and on with a switch and reset it in the front with another switch and also change the volume from a knob and the other knob controls whether it should display on the 3" screen or one hooked up to it. My other small issue is some of the games run a tiny bit slower than they should but not all of them. The controller is similar to an actual nes controller but not as good, kind of odd they couldn't get the design of such an old but great for It's time controller down. The d-Pad and all the buttons feel stiff and raised to high. It can be fun for kids though or for adults who want to play some Mario or old space shooter types games or pick one of the weirder named games and see what you get. ... show more

  • Better Than It Deserves To Be
I thought this would just be a gimmicky cheap knock off gaming emulator. And it is. But it's so much fun! True, about 70% of the games on here will probably never be played, but the popular ones that are on here work great! I also love that it is battery powered so it can be played on the go, and I love that the screen actually works to play off of, and it's not just some gimmicky display that doesn't actually show anything. The controller is actually really solid too. The buttons don't feel mushy or too firm, and the connection distance is fantastic. If you're looking to get an amazing gift for someone, or for yourself, I'd highly recommend this! ... show more
