  • ELIPHOEM Gaming Console, pretty cool for the price
I haven't spent a ton of time on this device but enough to provide a review. It's a pretty cool device for the price. You get a lot of games. As this has multiple platforms you'll find a lot of games repeated across those platforms. There are a ton of arcade classics as well as older console classics. A couple of issues I ran into is that the controllers need to be set to a specific config profile to work. I believe this is per platform. For most of the games I tried there were no issues, nothing needed to be done. On a few of the games I got no controller support until I figured out the controller profile wasn't set correctly. Once I found the correct profile the controller didn't require changing when going back into that specific game. While there isn't a ton to the config here, I really like instruction books which this one didn't include much of. Another, minor issue, is that a few times after shutting down the system and powering it back on I had to reconnect the controller. This means I had to pull the USB dongle out of the device and reconnect it. The device itself is small and lite. I have it zip tied to a mounted TV. Mine doesn't have a micro-SD card slot. It has 2 USB slots. One has the USB drive and one uses the controller receiver. ... show more

  • Great Console Emulator!
I like the Pandora's Box emulator a lot. First of all, I love video game emulation. Other than the one I use on my laptop, all of my emulators were in a handheld format--until now. The Pandora's Box console is my first emulation unit that plugs into a monitor, and in general, I love the idea of it. It's lightweight, highly portable, comes with an INSANE amount of games, and also comes with the HDMI cables that you need to use it. But it's not perfect--although I understand that perfect to me might be different from someone else's idea. The unit iself is pretty straightforward: a black box that attaches to your monitor or TV with the included cables. The controllers--there are two--take batteries, and they feel solid enough and sturdy. My main gripe is that the controllers come with four directional buttons instead of a proper D-pad, which I always prefer when playing console games. If having a D-pad isn't a dealbreaker for you, then I highly recommend this little emulator. It's a GREAT value for the price, and can provide years of entertainment. However, if having a D-pad is mandatory for gameplay for you, then you might not be satisfied with this unit. I'm going to see if I can use other controllers with this--and if I find that I'm somehow able to, I'll update my review. In all, though, the Pandora's Box is a great gaming device. Kids will love it, but so would Gen-Xers like me! ... show more

  • It is easy to use.
There were many similar products available, making comparison possible. It is more portable and easier to control than the product I used previously. Installation is straightforward, though I do wish the cable were slightly longer. It deserves a full five stars.

  • Not perfect, but much better than expected.
When you look up Pandora's Box retro game system reviews, your hopes might not be that high. I definitely wanted to try it, and I was happily surprised that, for the money, it exceeded my expectations. When I was in my teens, when most of the oldest games in this box were released, I remember issues like latency lag and horrible interfaces as the price to pay when you wanted to play these games. And even though the controllers are not super high quality, they are better and more solid than I expected for this price range. And yes, "controllers", as in, you get two of them in this package. They are very reminiscent of the PlayStation 2 controllers, and they don't feel as plasticy as some other controllers you get with similar systems. I was also very surprised to receive not one but two HDMI 2.1 (4k/8k) cables for this price. The packaging was done well, and the manual is actually printed in a booklet instead of on a small piece of paper. As mentioned before, you will read a lot about software emulators used on these types of gaming boxes, creating lag, making the games unplayable at some points, etc. Did I encounter that? Sure, but rarely. Some games would start, but I couldn't start playing because none of the buttons allowed me to start the actual game (Afterburner 2). Most games, however, work fine. Don't compare a console like this to a mainstream gaming console like a PS, XBOX, or a Switch. Of course, it will not hold up. Even if it were all perfect, the gameplay itself would not hold up because the games themselves don't hold up. That is the fun of this; it is a trip down memory lane. It was great to play some games from my MSX2 days and old PC games from the 80s. Games we were crazy about playing in the arcades that were amazing because, well, it was the best that there was. And that is not even considering the games available from many other game consoles, all the way up to the Nintendo 64. Even though the quality may not be the best you can get, Pandora's box offers more than you bargained for. The quality is much better than you would expect, and it is a great way to replay some old games from the era that laid the foundation for our current gaming demands. I also want to mention that the console was very well packaged. ... show more
