  • It’s quite good, but isn’t perfect
Color: Clear Blue
I have 3 of these controllers now, and they are probably the best Genesis ones available. They do wear out pretty quickly, so expect them to get mushy after 6-8mo of regular use. The quality and material build is okay, not bad, but not premium. A good controller.

  • No turbo, but a great controller
Color: Clear Blue
Mine arrived a day early (thanks Amazon!) so I was able to spend a few delightful hours on Saturday night playing some old Genesis classics, everything from Sonic to NBA Jam to Super Hang On to shooters like Steel Empire and run 'n guns like Mega Turrican and Gunstar Heroes. This is a wonderful controller. It feels great in the hand. The D-pad feels great and is super tight and responsive. The buttons feel great and have a satisfying tactile feel when pressing. The controller is cool looking, too, and I like the official Sega branding. This may be sacrilegious, but I then used this controller to play some Nintendo games like Contra and Over Horizon, and SNES titles like UN Squadron. Great experience. Negatives are a lack of Turbo. If I could buy this same controller, with Turbo, for $5-$10 more, I'd do it in a heart beat. Also, the cord, while plenty long, could be more flexible and supple. Given the bargain price, I can't dock a star for either of these minor issues. This is a great controller for the price. I've accumulated several controllers, all of which are a mix of pros and cons - Xbox 360 (D-pad is mediocre at best), Xbox Elite (nice, better D-pad but is very heavy and I have found that compatibility can be problematic and the price was exorbitant), Dualshock 4 (Great controller, very nice d-pad, but need a 3rd party app like input Mapper to get it to work with Windows), and the 8bitdo N30 pro 2 (very nice wireless controller, has Turbo, D-pad is a bit too small, L &R buttons are awkward to use). This controller may be my new go-to controller for Retro games. It has my favorite D pad out of the ones I just mentioned. And while the lack of wireless could be considered a downside, wired also can result in less latency/input lag while also increasing the "it just works" factor. Overall I'm very happy to have added this to my controller arsenal. It will be my go-to retro controller, especially for Genesis. And the shoulder buttons make it a perfect Sega Saturn controller as well. Price is very fair as this is a well-built and well-executed piece of tech. I just wish it had turbo for certain shooters but this controller is excellent. Happy gaming! ... show more

  • Mixed Results
Color: Clear Blue
I have 3 of these controllers. I purchased a black one and a blue one when the Genesis mini came out. I ended up using the blue one more for SOR4 though. I love how the controllers feel and when they are not broken they are great. However, I now have two broken blue controllers. Before I go any further, I want to thank Retrobit for honoring the year warranty for the first blue controller that broke. They asked me for a receipt and a model number from the box. That was all they needed to have a brand new one mailed to me. This was a very easy and straight forward process, most importantly, it was greatly appreciated. The sad thing is I managed to break the 2nd one too. I'm not throwing these, smashing them, mashing them, etc etc... I took them apart and found the 2 flaws with the design. They are nearly impossible to fix because the shell and the main d-pad part are intertwined. The other thing is the plastic hold the direction pad to the neck and the feet on the bottom are 2 points that always snap on these. I didn't bother asking for a warranty again because I feel Retrobit did their part already. I don't know if I would buy anymore given they snap on me. Most controllers these days suffer from these type of issues too. I just wish manufacturers would change the standard and make something that lasts, and is easy to repair. ... show more

  • Tested with Street Fighter Alpha 3 & Classic Ninja Gaiden
Color: Clear Blue
The floating circle type D-pad is good. But in my opinion I prefer D-pads that use the traditional D-pad "cross" type, for example the SNES or PS1 controllers. I was able to pull off special and super moves in SFA3 somewhat consistently with The Retro-Bit Official Sega Genesis USB Controller. It does have a advantage against most other controllers in the button layout department because all six buttons are on the face of the controller for fighting games that require 6 buttons. For Ninja Gaiden the D-pad worked okay but not as precise as the two controllers I recommend getting below. So I bought two The Retro-Bit Official Sega Genesis USB Controller one black and one blue one. For some reason the D-pad felt definitely more sloppy and could definitely tell the diff between this blue and the black one of the same model. The jumping sequences in the Classic Ninja Gaiden weren't doable without making mistake versus the using the black one. So I threw the blue one is in the trash. The black one works good I'm sure it was just a fluke by the way. My are my three favorite retro controllers: 8Bitdo SN30 Pro+ Bluetooth capable and a great D-pad. For a cheaper alternative and the D-pad is also great, the iNNEXT 2 Pack SNES Retro USB Super gamepad. ... show more
