  • Works well enough (once finally installed). Had to adjust the button length.
Color: Silver
First of all, if you've never replaced a gas cylinder before, be ready for some sweat. I bought my Steelcase Gesture second-hand, and I'm guessing the previous owners were actually three fully grown adults sitting in this chair at the same time - the original gas cylinder was practically welded in. A 10 inch pipe wrench won't work. Go for at least 18 inches. Put your chair upside on a table, get a good bite with your pipe wrench as close to the seat of the chair as possible, and yank using the full length of the wrench (what with torque scaling multiplicatively with the length of the lever arm). Use a hand-held sledgehammer if you must on the pipe wrench. Once you removed the previous gas cylinder, inserting this is a breeze. It seems well-built and lubricated. Unfortunately, the white button at the end to actuate the cylinder is a bit too long compared to the original gas cylinder. What this means is that upon sitting on the chair, the gas cylinder (like me) is in a constant state of depression and the chair level will slowly sink (and slowly rise when you get off the chair). I had to use a hacksaw to shorten that button. After slicing off around half the length, the cylinder works perfectly. ... show more

  • Worked for repairing a Costco Bayside Mesh Office Chair - FOR REPAIR HELP ON THIS CHAIR READ HERE!
Color: Black
Totally worked, but was a bit confusing as the Costco Bayside mesh office chair has a cylinder housing built into the base. You WILL need a pipe wrench to repair the chair. - Instead of using the entire product, you're just going to remove the silver colored cylinder from the black metal housing the new cylinder comes in. Careful with the metal tab, washer and bushing! Don't lose it! There are YouTube videos on removing this clip from office chairs and sliding it back on. - First remove the clip on the bottom of the Bayside chair base. - Slide the base off of the old cylinder (suggest you do this outside- mine was leaking black fluid all over the place!). The old bushing, clip, and washer will fall off- you can discard (or save if you want) these but you won't need them as the new cylinder comes with new ones already on the cylinder. - Use a pipe wrench to twist the former cylinder out of the main part of the chair (youtube videos on this out there as well). It requires some effort- doesn't matter which direction- it's not screwed in, just tight. - Clean up the chair now if fluid is everywhere! - Rest is the reverse of what you just did, but inserting the new silver cylinder into the chair base, then securing it with the washer and clip (included with the new cylinder). - Remove the red protective cap on the new cylinder - Put the main part of the chair on top of the cylinder which is now already attached to the base. - Push down on it, sit on it and you should be good to go! Hope this helps. It's pretty simple but the main issue to think around is the base of this chair having the black cylinder housing built into it. Other than that, easy repair. Hope this helps! ... show more
