I'm giving it 4 stars because it works. If it hadn't worked, that would be a different story. I see a lot of reviews on products like this that give 2 or 3 stars because it showed up dirty and packaged badly, etc. but in terms of the product actually working, it does. However, it certainly showed up dirty and dented and a hot mess!! Taking it out of the mess of packaging I was worried it was not going to work. But after hooking it up to everything and turning it on (it's a little loud at times) and connecting to xbox live, it's fine. Does what I want it to, so I'm happy. However, the seller should take a little more pride in their business by making sure the unit is in a clean condition at the very least (NO EXCUSE for dirt and dust to be all over the machine).

I purchased this used XBOX as a replacement for one I had that suffered the 'Red Ring Of Death'. I trusted the description that stated that it was tested and working. 'Amazon fulfillment?" so I decided to take a chance with it. As mentioned in a previous review I had been getting the infamous 'Open tray' error. (See picture 1). This caused lots of disappointment for my daughter who could not play her games as the DVD does not read any discs. I decided to count my losses; $65.plus dollars. As a PC technician I decided to open it up to attempt to clean the lens and to my surprise, I saw the console labeled (A) and the DVD drive labeled (B) (See picture 2). This signaled to me that the mainboard and the DVD drive were not paired hence the drive won't read the disks. I proceeded to clean the laser with rubbing alcohol and tried it again.... the same problem - 'Open Tray'. I then tried the DVD drive from the original now dead console. This gave the option to play the game but it would spin up then return the play game message. I then swapped laser lenses and got the option to play the game- pressed the 'A' button on the got the option to play the game it started to play then I got an error message that says to put the disk in an XBOX console to play it (See picture 3). This confirmed my original suspicion. i got a console with mismatched DVD and mainboard. Highly disappointed.

The Xbox I bought is odd. Sometimes it doesn't want to start up, or the disc drive doesn't want to open. But when it does it works fine. Except it won't let you play split-screen. It crashes.
