The bad reviews almost made me not purchase these shades. However I took a leap of faith and purchase them anyway and I’m so GLAD I DID!!! 4 of these shades cost me around $80 bucks, which is freaking amazing because in Home Depot it would have cost me $130+ for one shade!! It’s that crazy? Plus these shades are the ones that can be easily lifted up or pulled down with your hand. Yes one of my shades did fall down on one side. However a simple solution is to just add a screw (look at the photos). Add 3 screws, two on the end and one in the middle when hanging it up. Im really mad that the reviews almost prevented me from buying these amazing shades. It would have cost me nearly $500 for these exact shades from Home-depot. Simply use my screw method or even try command scrips (the screw method will hold them up forever). I. Noticed my house was much cooler and these shades black so much heat and sunlight, the technology is amazing! My house is very dark as well, and I’m happy because I have huge windows that bring in much sunlight. They came out amazing and I’m happy about my purchase!! These curtains should be 5 stars. People complain about anything! And there a great affordable price can’t go wrong and I won’t lie to you. Check out the pics. This is a great steal!!!

A waste of money, a hassle, and damaged plaster. Do not buy these. There are permanent but easy to install blinds that cost the same and work much better. I thought I would save myself some work, and ended up tripling the work. I have bought two of these before in the light filtering version. Those work ok except one had bad adhesive which I fixed with 3M temporary hanging strips. Both of these still work, possibly because they are lighter (weight wise) and in rooms where we don't put them up and down often. These blackout ones are a mess. They are too heavy first of all, which causes the adhesive to totally fail, but the adhesive is still strong enough to pull the paint and plaster off of walls (worst of both worlds). Also, the material is more resistant to pulling, so 1) both blinds I bought would no lower all the way (5-8 inches less than they should (leaving lots of space for light to come in- sorta defeats the purpose of blackout) and 2) puts more tension on the adhesive when you pull. The blackout version also is not as good looking as the light filtering is - looks way cheaper. The other big problem is that both blinds I ordered had defective cordless up/down mechanisms that were not noticable until they were actually hung. Both hung crooked (VERY crooked) when up OR down no matter how much troubleshooting I did. The bigger issue is that the company won't take returns if they have been cut and hung. Their warranty has so many loopholes that there is basically no real warranty and the company is not reachable by email or phone. Your only option is an online chatbot on their website that doesn't always appear on pages and will just blow you off without allowing you to write to a real person. The process I had to go through to get this resolved was OFFENSIVE from both Amazon and the company (which did ZERO) and I still had to pony up to get my plaster and paint fixed. Avoid these at all costs.

A little surprised by the negative reviews here, elsewhere almost five stars which is what I will give them. I think they are awesome especially after having installed regular ones previously. I agree that the instructions should tell you you need a really sharp knife, I also tried many and sharpened one before I finally was able to cut through. So that was not as easy as they said but still do able. Also the plastic guide is really nice but you have to tAke it off once you get to the bottom plastic that needs cutting to cut that part. At first I thought that the material was just paper cause it kinda looks like it but I tried ripping a piece from what I'd cut off and it's very strong, I could not tear it. Honestly my more expensive ones kind of resemble paper also. They don't look cheap up at all. The inside is lined shiny silver to block the sun so it does give these a pale gray hue which pleases me cause I was looking for gray ones! But if you want stark white these are not. I dont care if the adhesive doesn't stick, I will just use the 3m Velcro if not. ESP for this price. I actually ordered two more!

This window shade is a good idea and simple to use. It seems very well-engineered. It darkens our nursery room as much as I could expect and I have it behind lined blackout curtains for a darkness sandwich. It also keeps out heat significantly, as the nursery window receives a lot of afternoon sun, which would make it too hot for sleeping on sunny days if I didn't pull the shades and curtain. Setting it up was easy, I used a very very sharp knife. Definitely sharpen your knife before trimming to size. However I can only give this item 4 stars for the following reasons: First, you have to trim off the edges on both sides of the shade. The trimmed pieces go straight in the trash. They contain styrofoam blocks from the bottom rail, the discarded edges of the shade itself, which is metallic fabric and plastic pieces of railing. You also must toss out the plastic trimming guide it comes with and various sticky bits of metal tape. Also, like many other reviewers the first shade I ordered malfunctioned and was unusable. It pulled down unevenly on first yank and never went back up. I reordered and the second one works just fine but I can't imagine my trimmed, used, broken shade is going back to the factory to be repaired and reused, so straight into a landfill or worse, a whale's tummy, goes the entire shade, the trimmed plastic and styrofoam pieces for the first and now second shade, the trimming guides, the pieces of tape and backing, and my hopes for a greener planet. Like I said, this shade is great if you get a working one and considering it is a custom size it is inexpensive. But I ask you: what about the greater costs beyond your dollars? You can laugh, I laugh, but it's so I don't cry, thinking of the poor whales with their tummies full of broken window shade pieces, swimming in our acidic oceans filled with broken window shade pieces and whatever other cheap crap we've decided we can't live another day without.

I was torn between a 3 and a 4 but ultimately went with a three. These are a crapshoot. When you get a good one. They're good. They look decent (much better than just paper blinds) and do a good job of blocking out the light. My room is much darker and as long as you aren't a weirdo closely inspecting my blinds, they look like regular blinds. Pretty easy to install except you need a knife to cut them? I may be the odd one out but the only knives i have are kitchen ones plus an exacto one. I used an old serrated knife that I kept for some reason after I upgraded (take that declutterers!) They're 40 bucks. You get what you pay for. BUT if you get one with bad adhesive? Ugh. They'll fall down (of course in the middle of the night, when else would they fall?) Or the adhesive to the wall holds strong but the adhesive holding the blinds to the top part will fail. So, you use whatever tape (scotch, electrical, duct, double sided, packing) you have on hand to fix it. Usually that'll fix the problem but now it looks pretty bad. I put these on two windows right next to each other. Same wall, same conditions, same paint, blinds from same shipment, same kind of blinds, etc. One is fine. The other looks like a kid taped their homework sheet together after a parrot got it.) Make sure you have extra tape on hand and keep your expectations reasonable. (Also if they fail to stay extended, that's just a pull down blinds thing. Extend it, hold the blinds between your hands (where there are strings inside) and push them together gently rubbing your hands down to the bottom. An extra pair of hands would be helpful to keep it extended. If you don't have an extra pair, push the blinds against the wall with your hand and run your hand down.)

I've had the shade for over 1 year now, and it works well with blocking light and heat from the sun. Installation was not difficult, but I recommend using screws instead of the stick tape because it will not last or even hold when first installing. The only thing I do not like about the shade is that there is nothing to grip at the bottom. Opening the shade can be difficult when it is set inside a deep window frame. I put some screws in at the bottom to use as handles, which makes it easier for opening.

First off let me say that these are amazing at blocking out light and creating almost complete darkness. HOWEVER, these were not as "easy" to trim to size. I followed directions correctly and it was still difficult. Once the blinds were trimmed to the correct size, you put a cap on the bottom edge. Well, I trimmed my blinds to the exact size to fit snug with minimal space on each side to keep the light from coming through. The caps they gave you add just enough length that it made the blinds not fit and get stuck. I tried to trim the window down a smidge more but forget it. If you don't cute these to the correct length the first time, it's almost impossible to make and adjustments. On top of this annoying issue, the adhesive DOES NOT WORK. Every few days the blinds were hanging down from one side. I did EVERYTHING to get them to stay. Over time and after one completely fell off in the middle of the night, I gave up. I ended up having to nail the top piece into my frame. Yes, my frame width is more than the recommended size for these blinds. Now one of the blind's base is cracked and chipped from it falling off completely and slammed into the floor. CHEAP PLASTIC. CHEAP AND WORTHLESS ADHESIVE. Lastly, they are warped at the bottom. I am not sure if this is due to them detaching on one side often, but I did notice they did not lay perfectly flat while being inside the frame when first installed. Overall the only positive thing I can say about these is they block out everything. Almost too well. But I spent $100 for two blinds that now look funky and are a piece of junk. I could have easily spent $100 and got much nicer blackout blinds. Save your money, look elsewhere and find a nicer set.

The only thing I like about these shades is that they will darken a room if you can get them to stick. I bought eight sets for upstairs windows in my home. First, trimming them to get them to fit inside the window: This takes a LOT of elbow grease and does not trim nearly as easily as the seller would have you believe in their videos. And no you cannot use anything to trim them other than a very sharp, relatively large knife which is serrated or just extremely sharp. Forget using any kind of finishing saw, hack-saw, or even a chop-saw. This gives the edge of the shade material a feathered or shredded appearance which IMO looked pretty tacky. So, very sharp serrated knives only and an installer with a firm grip and strong arms. Second, sometimes they remain adhered to the drywall and sometimes they do not. For me, more often not. Despite having hung eight of these shades inside window casings onto properly installed, prepped, and painted new drywall, more than half of them began detaching themselves and began falling out of the windows, usually in the middle of the night. Third, there is no handle(s) to grasp on the shade when raising or lowering it. You have to grasp the plastic bar that runs along the bottom, hoping you have grabbed it in exactly the middle, because the shade will not raise evenly. Also because there is no handle to grasp, it's about impossible to lower them completely. Fourth, customer service was very non-optimal. I wrote them and explained what happened, and even sent pictures. I received in turn a terse, wordy reply in which they wanted every single detail about each blind, how it was installed, what type of surface I adhered it to, what kind of paint, sealant, primer, method of application, indoor temperature and humidity, etc etc. It felt to me very much like they were not trying to please a customer or be helpful; rather, they were trying to bury me by piling on unnecessary requests. This did not bode well with me. In summary, if I want the convenience of an easily installed window-shade without having to install brackets or any hazardous cords, I just need to keep looking, because this is not it.
