I had a chance to take a camping vacation recently where I tried this canopy out, and I was very pleased with how well it worked, providing shelter from sun and rain during my trip. For reference I was using this with a soft top 2-door Wrangler JL. Entire week had temps in the upper 80s to low 90s. Winds were constantly gusting to 25mph throughout the first couple of days. And the second and third days had periods of moderate rainfall. All in all, a nice mix of common weather for the canopy's maiden voyage. I was pleased to find that the canopy handled all these conditions without trouble. Space-wise, I eventually had a good-sized table, large comfy camp chair, cooler, stack of firewood, and a clothes line all set up underneath the canopy to keep them out of the rain, and still had no trouble getting in and out of the tailgate for other gear. I also had no trouble unclipping the rear window and tucking it up on the roof under the edge of the canopy to allow for additional access space. During the times the sun was out and the temps were soaring the canopy gave nice shelter from the sun while the open sides provided good air circulation. Also convenient was that I could easily detach the canopy from the Jeep's roof, slide it onto the ground, drive off to do other things, and then back up into the same spot and slip the canopy into place again. This was simplified by sticking a couple of chunks of wood behind my rear tires before driving off, marking my initial position. On my return I could use the Jeep's rearview camera to line myself back up on the chunks of wood, slowly go backwards until I felt a wheel bump into one of the wood chunks, and know I was within a few inches of where I'd started from. As several have observed, solo assembly was indeed a bit troublesome at first. But after trying various things and pondering a bit I developed an approach that at least worked well for me and my vehicle. Pretty obvious to most folks I'd expect was to first roll up the side panels and secure them with the tie-off points. Nothing fancy, just a quick'n'dirty roll to get them out of the way so I wasn't stepping on them and the wind wasn't catching hold of them. Next was to slide the canopy fabric up onto the top of my Jeep until it was a little bit past the midpoint of the canopy. I used the web straps to temporarily lash it to the vehicle (I used my side mirrors) to again help prevent the wind from trying to move things around on me. Next was inserting the long roof poles. Having the fabric draped over the Jeep's top meant that as I fed the poles through their sleeves they naturally formed the desired downward curve, making it much easier to slip one end into its pocket and then walk around to the other side to get the other end slipped into place, without the poles falling sideways, or twisting out of place, or trying to curve the wrong way, etc. Essentially I was using the top of the vehicle as if it were a very patient second person willing to hold up the middle of each long pole for as long as I needed them to. With the two long poles in place it was easy to get the shorter pole in position, and then slide everything backwards until it was in the proper position on the Jeep. At that point I could secure the front end of the canopy to the rear wheels, then get the rear canopy poles into place and their guy lines secured, and finally unroll the sides and get their guy lines staked out. A few tweaks I made that may or may not be of interest to folks. I wanted a little more flexibility with the height of the canopy as well as a more positive-locking assembly. I couldn't find telescoping poles that were short enough to fit into my organizer bags, so I ended up going with a set of heavy duty interlocking sectional poles (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B08SQP86NL) where I could leave out one or two sections to keep the canopy lower - say if there were heavy rain where I wanted to get the side panels closer to or even all the way down to ground level. Next, around the midpoint of my trip there was a warning of heavy thunderstorms with high winds approaching, where I used a couple of King-a-Ma-Jigs tarp clips (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07DRM3LRW) to add guy lines to the center of each side panel, since they had a tendency to billow a bit in the earlier gusts. I may start doing that all the time, since it provided a nice tautness to the side panels. Finally, I picked up a couple of heavy duty vinyl coated s-hooks (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B08TQSQM25) to connect the canopy's front straps to my rear wheels, so I wouldn't have to muck about with feeding the straps through the wheel openings.

The concept is good but more of a sail on shorter vehicles. The arch in the middle is very tall when deployed. The sides are maybe come down only 31/2 feet. My biggest issue with it is that it is not free-standing, you need the guidelines to make sure it stands. I think that adjustable front legs would make this product more usable, but as it stands it is just a wind catch.

Love this awning! It provides coverage from rain and sun as well as privacy while camping in crowded campgrounds. I wasn't able to set it up by myself though. I needed another adult to help ark the poles in order to slip them into the pockets. I'm not mentioning this to discourage anyone from purchasing the awning. I really am very happy with it but for me it takes two adults to set up.

I love this thing. Perfect for cloudy, over cast, northwest cast camping drizzle. If I HAD to find something wrong, and I mean HAD to, needed 2 more stakes and lanyards. Otherwise everything seemed legit.

with limited reviews we took a chance on this awning to provide shelter on our 3 month cross-country road trip. I was hoping to add an attached retractable awning to my camper van, but because I have a high top it would have been $$$$ and after an unexpected breakdown it was out of my budget. Let me just say I am SO happy I purchased this awning vs a $700+ fixed awning set up. I needed something sturdy enough to provide both shade in windy desert conditions as well as shelter from rain. I was immediately surprised by how small and light the bag was. it took up practically no space in my van which was a huge relief. It took 2 people 10-15 minutes to set up completely and was PERFECT for the van. The high top made it feel much larger than a traditional ex-up and the sides gave us some privacy in crowded campsites. I was also surprised by how much space it created. At one time we were able to fit an entire inflatable sectional couch underneath making it a cozy space to wait out a rain storm. It offered complete coverage for both of my side doors and had enough height that the doors opened without a problem. This was the ideal set up for shade, however in rainy conditions this leads to water being channeled into the door opening so in the future I will secure it over the roof so the shelter is angled to divert water away from the van entrance. The shelter has held up in moderate wind, although I have felt more comfortable taking it down entirely if conditions become too windy. Although I have only used this awning a few times, I purchased the insurance and will update this review as needed. I would highly recommend this awning to anyone looking to enhance their vehicle camping experience or add shelter to a vehicle. For the price I feel this is an excellent value. 09/09/21 Update: I’ve enjoyed this canopy a few more times at music festivals and during camping trips. I have noticed that it can be difficult with only 2 people as the poles need a fair bit of force to slide into the pockets. I’m usually fortunate enough to have help so it goes up quickly. I have also noticed that the stitching is beginning to tear and rip in places. I suspect I can repair it with a sewing machine and get a few more years out of it before needing a replacement. I get compliments on it often, the sides are light enough that I can roll up one and pin it with just a couple clothes pins. Still would give it 10/10!
