Initial Review, will update after living with it for a few months. The Good: 1) Well packaged and protected 2) Overall good functionality, works as advertised. 3) Good water protection. It happened to downpour right after installing and seemed to keep bed pretty dry other than a few drips at the tailgate. 4) Looks Good, 5) Alignment was pretty easy and secures well. 7) fairly easy to use (weight of panels is ok when folding up/down The not so great: 1) Some of the hardware bolts were garbage. Didn't even get to the point of barely tightening and they broke causing a major hassle where I had to drill out the broken bolts for the rails. Strangely enough most of the hardware was pretty decent but it amazes me these companies will use cheap Chinese substandard bolts on a $1200 cover. Also note to manufacture. . Include a couple extra bolts instead of the exact number. It costs nothing and would reduce customer frustration and returns (and bad reviews) 2) Like many products they don't include instructions and refer you to their website for detailed instructions. The problem is that their QR referred to installations for other truck types but not mine. (26 tacoma). Did some searching and found the Tacoma install, but it looks like it is for a prior generation MX3 (Gen 2 instead of Gen 3) as the rails were different and the included materials (foam pads etc. didn't match the descriptions). I figured it out and made it work, but it was kind of a hassle and makes their organization look less than professional. 3) Stuff in the installation package they don't describe or is different than in installation videos and online documentation. There are some PDFs I searched for, but again they didn't completely match what was in the box. I suspect this has to do with Gen 3 vs Gen 2, but again it is annoying and reflects bad on them 4) strap hold downs (I think are nylon and plastic) for securing when driving with one panel open are junk. They function right now, but after 6 months to a year they will be sunbaked and broken. Overall The installation wasn't too bad (in spite of the flawed installation videos and documentation) and the broken hardware I had to deal with. I debated between a reduction of 2 vs 1 star but only deducted one for the installation flaws. But all in all, I like the cover now that it is installed. Will post an update in a few months of living with it. ... show more

I got this cover for less than 1k. It is nice and flush and keeps things dry. However, the installation was pretty difficult since the latches wouldn’t click, so it took a lot of adjustments. I had issues with the retainer clip, and I saw on reddit an alternative placement that ended up working. I spent 2 and a half hours on this installation with the help of my Dad. I recommend 2 people for the installation at least. The quality is okay for the price, but this will be good for now. ... show more

I'm dissatisfied enough that I should have returned this cover. The hard cover itself is great, but the system for installing it on a 2024 Tacoma 5 foot bed is poorly designed. The part number is 448446, which is the same part number for the previous gen Tacoma. This should have been a clue. The instructions were edited to mention the new gen 4 Tacoma, but the instructions probably haven't been changed from gen 3. No problems mounting the heavy main Bakflip rail to the truck bed's factory rail which takes 3 clamps per side. The problems start with the Bakflip's adapter rail that holds the cover to the main rail....its very thin metal and requires another 3 clamps per side. I found it easiest to disassemble the adapter rail clamps so I could ensure the outer half of the clamp was properly seated in the thin metal adapter rail before bolting it to the inner half of the clamp at the Bakflip main rail. Honestly, it felt like installing metal window blinds. The adapter rail clamps at the front of truck bed require the "alternate mounting position" otherwise the lock knob used to secure the cover to the adapter rail will hit the adapter rail clamp. I watched several videos and read the instructions several times before starting this install. I followed the instructions to the T whenever possible. The cover ships with masking tape over the holes drilled in the aluminum frame for the safety strap receptacle. Following the instructions, I had the cover mounted on the truck when I removed the masking tape and was greeting with a pile of aluminum shavings. These shavings got everywhere and even scratched the surface of the cover. The plastic storage clip for one of the safety straps was nearly broke off, too. See my photos to make sense of my word salad......Bottom line, check out the competition before buying this $1000 cover for your 2024 Tacoma. If I had paid $500, I wouldn't be so annoyed by these problems. The Bakflip is a major player in tonneau covers, so I'm hoping RealTruck will come out with an upgrade kit after enough Tacoma owners complain. ... show more

    • Installation not clear
This is my third tonneau cover from BAKFlip, and from a performance standpoint, I have no complaints. This time, the lack of clear instructions made the installation more difficult and confusing than it needed to be. The PDF link and online videos in the box were not helpful for a 2024 Tacoma, and other private videos didn’t make it easier. The package included two metal pieces that appear to adapt to the shape of the bed but no mention of how to install the trim piece or the rails. I also have a couple of additional pieces that I assume are intended for one end or the other, but there was no clear direction on where or how they should be used. I am concerned that the cab-side of the bed is angled and the tonneau is square so it seems that water will penetrate into the bed quite easily. Again this may have been addressed by BakFlip but without direction, it's a mystery. Overall, I’m happy with the product’s performance, but the installation support and fit/finish needs improvement. ... show more
