  • Very Flexible in its massage options

We purchased our Real Relax massage chair about 6 months ago. I have truly enjoyed it. Admittedly, there have been both pros and cons: Pros • Flexible – I am able to choose the type of massage I want and can change it mid-stream (once I figured out what function did what – see Cons below). When I first started, I tried the automatic plans, but quickly found the couple of massage types that worked best for me. After the initial body scan, I quickly change the massage type to one of my preferred massage-specific modes. • Flexible (part 2) – When inside a specific massage function, you can make adjustments such as the distance between the rollers. This is marvelous! I will change the width 2 or 3 times per massage to hit all the tight spots • Flexible (part 3) – I like the variety of massage modes. From day-to-day, my needs change and I can choose what works best. • It really works the tight spots in my back. This is what I bought the chair for and it does a bang-up job! Cons • The control has numerous cryptic 2 letter options. I have not been able to find what they mean. It would be nice to have a translation sheet for these acronyms. • There is no list of what each auto-mode will really be doing. You just try them all to figure out what works for you • I am 6’ 2” and the rollers end JUST before getting the top parts of my shoulders. Looking on the website it says height limit of 6’ 1”, so that might explain that. It is wonderful for the parts of my back it does get to. • The chair tilts back when it starts up. When you turn the chair off, it sits back upright. Occasionally, the chair stays stuck in the tilted back position. This makes it a bit more difficult to get out of the chair. This is fixed by unplugging the chair, waiting a few seconds, and plugging it back in. It generally resets to the correct position at that point. • I have had numerous occurrences of one of the rollers poking out more than the others. Changing roller width or massage mode fixes the issue. This does not happen a lot, just often enough to be slightly annoying. It can be slightly painful when the one roller is pushing out further than the others. • I contacted the Real Relax support team about my issues. They were very responsive. Unfortunately, they want a video of the problem before they can move forward with the ticket. The roller issue only occurs when someone is in the chair. If you take pressure off the roller, it falls back into position. Therefore, you can’t get a video of the problem occurring. Informational • When in the automatic modes, the chair performs a number of startup tests. This includes squeezing your arms and legs fairly tightly. This can be a bit concerning at first. Don’t worry about it. The testing is over fairly quickly and it will stop before it hurts. • You can sync your phone to the chair and play music through the speakers. It works, but I don’t really take advantage of the feature. • When you first sit in the chair, it feels a bit uncomfortable. However, once it turns on and senses your body, the chair adjusts and it feels great. • This sucker is HEAVY. Find where you want to put it before it arrives. You don’t want to be moving it around. Note – it looks like they have updated the remote on the newer versions of the chair. I don’t know if they have addressed any of the remote issues I mentioned Overall, I really love my massage chair. I use it regularly and it definitely helps my back feel better. The arm and leg massage is OK, but I generally opt out of those. Love the foot massage though 😊.   • Defective item and Customer Service

I really wanted to like this product but unfortunately it did not turn out this way. First of all, the item was defective and secondly, my experience with Customer Service was not good either. The chair itself looks nice. For the exception of folding down the leg and footrest, it came fully assembled. The issue came when powering on the main power switch to the chair. The chair went through its initial “setup” but then the rollers stayed on and stayed in one spot. It did not move up or down the back even when selecting various modes on the remote. Again, when turning it off on the remote, the rollers continued to stay on regardless of what button was pressed on the remote. The only way to stop the rollers was to turn off the main power switch on the bottom rear of chair. I called the phone number for tech support that was listed on the order detail on Amazon and was able to get In touch with someone in California. He stated that he would start a claim on my item and that someone would get in touch with me. I received an email on how to troubleshoot and resolve the issue that I was having. They attached a video of what to do. The video was in Chinese but I was able to figure out what to do because it was a video. The problem with this was that I couldn’t do what they were saying in the video because I couldn’t access the “motherboard” because I would have to remove a panel and I didn’t know how to do that. I then responded to email and told them that I tried to resolve the issue by going through the bottom of the chair but that I couldn’t do it because I didn’t know how to take off the panel. I added that I would like for them to exchange the chair for a working one, as well because I can’t imagine that the consumer should have to mess around with the electronics of the product to try to repair it. Fortunately, I’m mechanically inclined but not everyone is and I can’t see how they could ask someone to go through the actions that they were recommending to do. Anyway, they responded to me by sending me another video on how to remove the panel and totally ignored my request for a exchange. Still having Hope, I decided to go ahead and follow the video anyway and attempt to resolve the issue. Long story short, the recommendations did not work despite the video. It did affect it but it didn’t resolve it. I was able to run the different modes via remote but the rollers still would not turn off and another issue actually was created. At this point I called the number I did initially but no one answered but I left a message leaving my contact info. I called 2 more times but received no answer. On my fourth attempt in a week, I was able to get a rep and told her my situation and my displeasure. She was kind and listened to me and said that she would pass my info along and that someone would get in touch with me within 24 hours since I already had troubleshooted the chair. No one contacted me via phone but I did get another email but it was the same email (from China) that I received previously with the same video attachment. I gave it another 3 days to see if anyone would call me but I did not receive anything. I then called again and I was able to get in touch with some one on my 3rd attempt calling within 2 days. I explained my situation and the rep told me the same thing that the previous rep told me. I then made her aware that I wasn’t confident I. What she was telling me because the rep before her said the exact same thing to me. Almost verbatim. I was really afraid that I was going to have an issue returning this because I read one review when I was looking for massage chairs that when he tried to rerun a chair, he was charged almost $600 to do so. It was a different brand however. As it turns out, I didn’t wait for them to contact me. I went to the Amazon app and went through the process of returning it that way. I am please to say that it was just as “easy” as returning anything else. I was refunded promptly once the massage chair was picked up by the vendor. The scheduling for the pickup was easy as well. The only challenging part was repacking the chair and getting it ready for pickup. The return process was convenient and satisfying. I’m glad that I didn’t have to deal with the company that sold it. All in all, this item did not work properly upon delivery. From what I could tell, this is a Chinese business that has American reps located in California. Even if the chair worked, I’m wondering if Customer support would be good if any issues came up. I thought of getting another chair from them but the bad customer service is what ultimately made my decision to look elsewhere. ... show more
