The potentiometer seems to have very non-linear volume adjustment
We are using this to run backing tracks from phone audio to a bass amp. As the phone audio also runs to an in ear monitor as well that need full volume from the phone, we needed a way to lower the volume going into the bass amp as there is no way to control the audio in on the amp itself. This works well but the pot is very non-linear; it seems to hit full volume at about the 1/4 to 1/3 turn of the dial's full range. This makes fine controlling the volume rather difficult as a very small change on the dial is a pretty drastic change in volume.

Simply effective bass control
I have read and experienced that not all telephone-cable-style bass controllers work with all amps. This controller, however, works passively with the RCA line, so it will work with any amp, and will be one less cable that goes all the way to the amp. I have also experienced that telephone-cable-style controllers sometimes adjust very unevenly–all the way down isn't actually muted, and the transition from min to max is far from linear. With this basic controller, minimum doesn't pass any signal, and there is a smooth increase in volume as the knob is turned toward maximum. This controller is also passive, so RCA connections are all that is required. This isn't one more thing in your audio chain that needs to tap into 12 volt power. This also decreases the chance of introducing noise into your signal. If you want a basic volume control to control the relative level of bass in your system, I can recommend this. Don't let its simplicity and cheap price dissuade you from considering it.

Controller doesn't control
Got this to use with pre-amp output of car radio to my factory sub amplifier. Unless dial is set to max there is zero audio signal pass-through. It's either 100% or OFF. No level control whatsoever. Also tested with my home theater subwoofer and had the same faulty behavior.

Much better quality than the one that came with the amp!
This inline RCA level controller has been extremely useful for dialing in sound without constantly reaching for the head unit or amplifier. It installs in minutes by dropping it directly into the RCA line, and once it’s in place, it just works. The knob turns smoothly and gives you consistent, predictable control over volume levels. I’m using it mainly to fine-tune bass output, and it makes a noticeable difference in daily use — especially when switching between different music sources or tracks that aren’t mastered at the same levels. Being able to make quick adjustments from the front instead of the amp itself is a big convenience. Build quality is better than expected for something this compact and inexpensive. The housing feels solid, the connections are secure, and it stays put once mounted using the included hardware or tape. I haven’t noticed any added noise, buzzing, or distortion during use, which was my main concern going in. This isn’t a fancy DSP or tuning device, but it doesn’t need to be. It’s a straightforward, dependable solution for controlling signal level, and it does exactly what it’s designed to do. Great option if you want simple control without overcomplicating your setup.

Low cost attenuator for signal-level audio line sources
This is a pretty basic audio attenuator. It will work for more than just bass control, it can be used as an overall attenuator between an input and a power amplifier, for example. The quality is OK, for the price you will see this or ones similar, maybe without all of the mounting accessories like included screws and double-sided tape, for around the same cost. This is basically a 0-50 kOhm variable resistor between the input and the output (the input and output is not marked on these, so it will pretty much connect either way. This basically attenuates the input of the amplifier by increasing the impedance from the source signal. It does not, as best I could tell, act like a voltage divider in any way. Pro - no directional concern. Con - your amplifier may actually output a bit differently based on the load, so this might introduce some artifacts in the signal line. Also, the two sides weren't completely matched. They were within 5% of each other but not much better than that. So there may be a loss in imaging as well. Long story short, don't expect the best high fidelity, but it's cheap and may get the job you need done.
