I was looking for a replacement battery for my partner's flashlight that was his since before I met him. This one worked great. At first, I was really confused about how many 6V lantern batteries all had only one spring. It took my partner who has a degree in electrical engineering to tell me that the black cap is only a cap on it to prevent the battery from shorting out before it's in use. Now that I was putting it into a flashlight, I was supposed to take off the cap. Indeed, it came off with no problems. The flashlight now works again. It's good to have a flashlight. Cons: The battery had a tiny crack in the side. I asked my partner, "Is this going to leak battery acid?" The answer is no. The casing is there to prevent water from getting in, so as long as I know the flashlight will be away from water at all times, it's ok. I still taped it shut just to be sure. ... show more

My Hubby passed away 6 1/2 years ago & I’ve used our home flash light many times & we had it probably 10 years prior. I did not even think about batteries for it as it always worked. Then it didn’t. It took me a long time to even figure how to open it & I almost gave up! So I purchased another flash light that has even a red emergency light on it that flashes for emergencies. When I finally got my old flash light opened I was shocked as I did not ever hear of a 6V battery. I searched Amazon & found one exactly what I had. Took no time to replace it, I love the darn thing.! So I took the new flash light & put it on my car. I’m a super happy camper now, wondering if I’ll live long enough to see new battery to poop out! lol ... show more

I've gone through these every fer years in an ancient fire alarm system in my house. They seem to hold up well and pass my monthly (bimonthly?) alarm tests. After several years they exceed their expected shelf lives and are replaced. Certainly no compaints about life or quality.

I am reviewing the product, not the shipper. This is the worst battery I have ever purchased. The deer feeder I use requires a screw-top styled battery which are difficult to find in box stores so I ordered this one online. Based on the price, I knew that it would probably not power the feeder for long but I was ok with that expectation. What I was not prepared for was for the battery to not even function when it was installed. After replacing the previous battery, I attempted to test the feeder - nothing happened. I checked a few known issues with the feeder not working with no change - the feeder would still not spin. I reinstalled the previous battery and tested the feeder and it worked. I have no idea what caused the problem. When I was installing the Rayovac, I noticed the positive post was loose. I tightened it back down but that made no difference. Being somewhat frustrated I dropped the battery on the ground - from about three feed up and it broke open. To my surprise, I found four D cell batteries in the case rather than a true 6V battery. ... show more

    • 918C - Vintage Popular Lantern Battery
I ordered a Rayovac 918C lantern battery for an old lantern we had lying around. I know these are not the best lights when compared with today's rechargeable LED lights, but this lantern has a tilting head on it. The head makes it great for working under cars, cabinets and such. The reason I am writing this? Well Amazon has the description with the battery weighing 3.2 ounces? If you are familiar with this battery, you know it weighs considerable more than that. Another source I checked has it listed as 2 lbs. 6 oz which seems right to me. With all that said, Amazon mailed the battery to me in a blue and white Amazon Prime mailer. I never got the battery as the mailer arrived split down the side. If you read other reviews, others too note batteries missing or damaged. I am just saying you may have a similar experience as me - or not. I have no problems with the battery itself. I had no problem getting a refund either. Amazon does it again. This battery has given a new lease on life for a twenty plus year old McDermott A45 Hand Lantern, a workhorse double sided work lantern. Originally used a type 903 battery, which is a carbon-zinc type. This battery, a type 803, has a higher amp/hour rating while being slightly shorter in size, making an old favorite even more stable. Thank you, Amazon, keep this one around, more people will ask for this. Update: This battery is still going strong after 4 years service, mostly on standby, and recently almost 7 hours running during hurricane Irma. Amazon, please keep this one around, I've told others where to find them. ... show more
