  • Does exactly what it should, in a shower application.
Activated carbon filters are often used to remove chlorine, and they do. However, carbon media is not well suited for heated water. Carbon is an excellent media for whole house filtering, and whether or not that is in place, this filter and its KDF media is still a good idea in the shower. I recommend both filters to anyone who may drink, wash, or inhale steam from the water supply. I educated myself on the subject when my wife's skin recently become very adverse to even the smallest amounts of chlorine, and this filter has changed her life. Filter life and performance is a function of water flow, shower duration and frequency, and the quality of the water. It's like using a napkin to clean up a smudge or an oil spill. We are in north Texas where the water is supplied from the lakes. Ten months out of the year the difference in chlorine content of the water in and out of the filter is barely measurable, yet due to her sensitivity, and perhaps other impurities, her skin can tell the difference. In the summer, when the city has to treat the water more aggressively, this filter is up to the job, and puts a large dent in the chlorine content. With any filter of this type, the lower the flow, the better the results; the more time the water spends in the media, the more impurities removed. For example, one should keep the flow restrictor in the shower head. If your chlorine content is really high, you could place two filters in series. ... show more

  • Protect your skin and health, esp. for those with sensitive skin (removes chlorine and chloramine, another form of chlorine)
After moving to a new home in southern California, my skin began to itch and eventually break into open wounds either from scratching or the water after taking several showers. After this happened I didn't know what was going on and became desperate to find the cause. I changed shampoos and soaps to organics and still had the itching, skin irritation, and wounds/chemical burns. After struggling to find the cause I found some information about the water quality in the city and became aware of chloramine, a form of chlorine that does not evaporate out of the water. From that time on, I experimented with washing with filtered drinking water and the itchiness, irritation, and wounds disappeared within days. So our household bought a water softener system for the house. It reduced the symptoms however they came back eventually. Desperate to find a solution, I finally found out about the shower-head filters that also removed chloramine. Being a selective buyer I did not want to buy inferior quality so I researched and gave this a shot. It solved the problems. If I had known this was the solution in the beginning, I would have saved much because I might not have gotten a water softening system. The plus side is that the water softener has reduced mineral buildup on the shower glass and tiles and the pipes probably run cleaner now. ... show more

  • Nailed it!
I live in a city notorious for hard water. When I first moved here, I foolishly accepted a parking space (at work) next to a sprinkler and was horrified to see the city water *ruin* my car paint job! At my house, there is a WAR going on in the kitchen and bathroom and the ammunition is CLR, Lime-Away, and white vinegar. I have banned bar soap to avoid soap scum - only Dr. Bronner's liquid Castille soap is allowed. So eventually, I figured, if this water is creating this super gross build-up in my shower, on my utensils, even on the bathroom mirror - well, it must be building up on *me*. So I wanted to try this shower filter. It arrived today, I installed it this evening with no tools but a little silicon sealant. I waited three hours then showered and washed my longish hair. I could tell the difference in my hair immediately! Plus, installation was easy, there were no leaks, and I didn't notice any difference in water pressure in my rainshower shower head. I hope this is helpful if you have a problem with hard water. ... show more

  • Water filter
Wish it took more toxins like what I had and fluoride out of the water! I have eczema and I can feel the difference when I don’t have this filter

  • Big difference with my hair!
We've been using this filter for a few weeks now. It's made a huge difference in my hair. I have naturally wavy/curly hair and it's brought out the curl more and definitely made my hair less frizzy. I can actually wash my hair, air dry it and not have to style it and it looks pretty good. I've been getting tons of compliments on my hair since I've started using it. I purchased an extra long hose for our handheld shower head so that I can also fill the bathtub using the shower as to receive the benefits that way as well. Wish list: Wish it filtered out more than just chlorine & wish it could withstand really hot water (it's not supposed to be as effective when used with hotter water). I purchased a second filter for our other bathroom and have recommended it to friends and family. ... show more

  • LOVE this filter! Works PERFECTLY with my hand-held shower head!
The "NH" in the description means it doesn't have it's own shower head assembly with it, which is exactly what I wanted. But I wasn't sure would it work with my hand-held shower head. I figured, well, it's got standard threads, it OUGHT to at least fit ... but would it work with my hand-held? I was tired of the chlorine out-gasses in my shower water. I was also tired of dry skin and drying hair. Not only does it work perfectly, it's a breeze to install. First, I bought plumber's tape. Then, I removed my existing shower head. Then I wrapped the threads with the plumber's tape, a few wraps, making sure I had "just the right tension" and was wrapping in the direction of the threads and therefore the direction I was going to be screwing the filter and shower head back on. Clearly, working with a hand-held ought to be in this item's product description. The entire installation process took only a few minutes. There were virtually NO leaks! Plus, I've had it now for a few weeks and already my skin isn't dry any more and my hair is holding healthy moisture. ... show more
