Description

Application - for any reflective product to be effective at managing heat, ONE side of the product must face an air space of least 3/4" thick or more. This air space can be much larger such as the attic space. This air space can be on either side of the heat source for it to be effective. Material Type - radiant barriers are produced from either aluminum layers or polyester films metalized with aluminum. THIS PRODUCT is manufactured with aluminum layers reinforced with a fiberglass fabric scrim for durability. Reflectivity - according to ASTM International, in order for a product to be classified as a radiant barrier, it must have a reflectivity rating of 90% or more. Reflectivity testing for THIS PRODUCT came back with a reflective value of 95-97%. Breathability - a breathable radiant barrier allows for water vapor to pass through small perforations (holes) in the material. THIS PRODUCT is perforated for breathability which is recommended when used in an attic space. Fire Rating - ASTM International test E84 is a test that evaluates the surface burning characteristics of building materials. This test provides ratings for both the rate at which a flame spreads (FSR) across a product and the amount of smoke it produces. Fire rating testing for THIS PRODUCT came back with a Class A / Class 1 fire rating; the best rating for a building material. It indicates the product has the slowest rate of flame spread and produces the least amount of smoke when burning. While a Class A / Class 1 fire rated product is the best rating for a building material, it does NOT mean the building material is fire proof; just that it has a higher fire resistance that other lower fire rated products.

I'm ordering my third roll right after I write this review. This product does exactly what it says that it does. If someone reviews this with less than 5 stars, they didn't take the 5 minutes of time to learn how it works. Because this reflects radiant heat, you need to leave an air gap to the warmer side- or else it will not work at all. It's not flimsy by the way. It takes a lot to rip or tear. I have installed this in the attic of two of my houses, under the metal roof of my garage and in a cabin, with great results in each location. Packaged and arrived in good condition. Durable product that is easy to install. We have very hot summers here in the South that make the temperatures in the attic almost unbearable. We are anticipating that our air conditioning bill will be less this summer after the installation of this product.

I really think I hit the jackpot finding this product. In south Florida, our attics get warm. I moved into a new home this past June, where the garage had been converted into an additional enclosed room (permitted of course!). We made it the "kids" space, but it really heated up in from the attic radiation during the summer and fall. This winter, I researched insulation products. As a GC in south Florida, I spend a lot of time reading product spec sheets and Q-Lam seemed very interesting. What intrigued me the most was the HEAVY DUTY strength. The weight and feel is almost like aluminum foil, but the strength is space age. Combined with the almost air like lightness, it was not a chore to install between rafters. It conveniently comes in 4'0" sections and I cut the lengths on the ground. Simply shot a staple gun and it was done in less than an hour. No mess at all like icynene spray foams and roll insulation. I look forward to returning and reviewing in a few months to see how my energy bill responds. I will be using this on all of my commercial and residential jobs moving forward. ... show more

I shopped around first and found this to be the best price online. It is very reflective and it does tear. I used a staple gun to install it with no problem.
