I installed this into a hardwood floor. The nice thing about this it the box accepts any standard box receptacle, like electrical, HDMI, ethernet, usb jacks, etc. Just like in a box in a wall. I used a drill at the four corners and then a jigsaw. Worked fine. finished the various cutouts for the nuts and tabs with a chisel. Everything fit tight but well. Everything screwed in a it looks great. I used this to run a cat 7 ethernet cable through the floor into the basement to connect to a high speed router I have mounted under the steps in the approximate center of our house. It is well made. The box is mounted to the floor with four wood screws and then you mount the cover plate over this with the rubber foam seal underneath on top of that with four more wood screws that match the finish that you selected for your install. I predrilled a small hole to help make sure the screws ran straight and true. Works well. I used flat Cat 7 cable so I just ran it out under the rubber insert and it still looks good. If I need to make another floor mounted box install, I will use this if it will work with what I want to do. ... show more

I like how well it fits and looks. The only thing that prevents me from giving the device 5 stars is that they shipped it with only two screws. Now I have to match the screws which is not easy done. It was nice not to have to go out and find all the pieces to get the job done. Except for the screws!! A note the plug of the power strip that plugged in stuck out of the slot. We were replacing our flooring and discovered the sketchiest floor outlet. I paused the flooring project and immediately ordered this floor outlet to replace the old, hazardous one. It was the first time we’d replaced an outlet, let alone the entire electrical box. The included instructions were a bit sparse, but YouTube videos filled in the gaps. I can’t comment on the accuracy of the template, because we were just adjusting the hole from the old outlet. The hardest part for our project was removing the old outlet. Installation of this product was fairly straightforward. I’m sure if we had to install a second one, it would take a fraction of the time now that we’ve done it once. Luckily, that should be the only floor outlet in our house, but if I had to replace another I would purchase this product again. This was used to replace 30+ year old outlets on a stage. The outlet is usually used under a lectern, and a narrow dc power supply fits nicely for a light (though the cover won't close with it plugged in). The closing cover does work well and stays shut when standard cords are used. The main reason we went with this model was its use of a decora style outlet. As I mentioned, we were replacing an older outlet that was a standard outlet within 2 feet of a baptistry pool. It was very easy to change out the outlet that this cover came with to a GFCI outlet to make it safer for floor use. The only downside I had was because both the outlet box and the cover need to fit into the hole, there is almost no play on the measurements if you are off. The screws that hold the box to the floor come very close to the edge of the hole so it is important to cut the hole exactly as specified. ... show more

This worked great and wasn't hard at all to install if your handy. I'm a DIY'er and I think it turned out great for our little end table. One thing to note tho, when you punch out the knockouts in the metal box, it doesn't come with any grommets to protect the electrical wiring from the metal box.

Make sure you check your depth available to you. This one runs deep. Also, if you install over carpet, be aware that the surface plate may get scratched by the brushes of a vacuum in addition to the rubber stopper getting sucked up.

I had someone help install because I’m no comfortable dealing with electricity. The box feels sturdy and well made and came with everything you needed to install it. I also think it compliments the wood floor; even though It will be covered up by our couch. Instruction were easy to follow. The only two draw back I have are. 1. The hinge is difficult to get open for the first time. I had to read the comments from others so that I didn’t feel like I was going to break it. 2. I would prefer it didn’t come with the actual electrical plug because that was a waste for me. As you can see by the picture I swapped it out for my own Leviton smart plug. I’m not going to take away because of this because most folks want turn key. ... show more
