If you are looking for an affordable way to dive into retro gaming without spending hundreds of dollars on a premium device, the R36 Max is an absolute hidden gem. For the price, the performance and value you get out of this handheld are incredible. The Screen is the Star: The first thing that blew me away was the 4-inch, 720x720 IPS screen. It is vibrant, crisp, and surprisingly large for a budget handheld. The 1:1 aspect ratio makes it absolutely perfect for classic Game Boy, Game Boy Color, and retro arcade games—everything looks sharp, colorful, and exactly how you remember it, just much clearer. Performance & Emulation: Powered by the RK3326 chip, this little device is a workhorse for older systems. It runs NES, SNES, Sega Genesis, Game Boy Advance, and PlayStation 1 games flawlessly. I’ve been playing PS1 games with zero stutter or lag. It can technically boot up some N64, Dreamcast, and PSP titles, though performance on those heavier 3D systems can be a bit hit-or-miss depending on the game. But for 8-bit, 16-bit, and PS1 classics? It’s perfect. Design & Ergonomics: The design is a bit quirky and unique (it has a football/soccer ball pattern texture on the menu buttons and quirky heart-shaped start/select buttons!), but it actually feels great in the hands. The built-in ergonomic grip on the back makes it much more comfortable to hold for long sessions than smaller horizontal pocket devices. The D-pad and face buttons are highly responsive, and having full dual-analog sticks and L1/R1/L2/R2 triggers is amazing at this price point. Battery & Features: The 4000mAh battery is excellent. This R36S appears to be genuine, box looks to be correct, included screen protector, wipes, and charging cord. After the system was started I was happily greeted with ArkOS 2.0 preinstalled. I've tested several games and they all worked great, everything seems to be working as expected. This is a great product at a great price, I hope we get more of these types of devices in the future. If you are looking for one of these devices on Amazon look carefully at the shipping cost, this unit at the time of purchase came with free shipping others don't. If you want a no hassle retro gaming device with lots of great old school content, grab this handheld device.

The screen quality is great but the controls are lacking quality. They work but the Dpad is stiff. The game list for some consoles is very lacking and I don't know why it has some of the more powerful consoles because the games for those systems run too slow. The classic games run fine but some arcade games say roms are missing.

Terrible decision on my part. The games are so old it's not worth it. I regret buying this very much. Wait a week, save a little extra and buy a good retro gaming system. There isnt one game on this thing that interests me in the slightest. If I could I'd give it no stars.
