My old bed was so bad I was sleeping on the couch. I had gone to numerous mattress stores trying to find something reasonable. As with the present economy spending a lot on anything is not on my wish list. While at one store I laid on a bed and said this isn't bad but just a little soft for me. He explained it was a bed in the box. When I looked the reviews up on that one they were similar to what I felt when I was on it. So I continued to search. After reading the reviews I thought well its 1/4 of the price of the other ones I have seen and liked. Its incredible to me they can put this in a box. There is no way ever it will go back in one without a device to suck the air out and some work. According to the manufacture you have to let it decompress for the full effect of about 3-7 days. However, you can sleep on it before hand and doing so will not effect the decompressing. So night one I laid on it and it felt extremely springy and I was like "oh no this isn't going to be good". Plus it was very soft. It sank when you got on it. Second night wasn't to bad but not great. It didn't sink as low as the first night. However, I slept through the night. I also found it to be a bit hard more firm than med /firm, by the third night. I had a mattress topper from my old bed that is still in like new condition. I threw it on top and the next night it wasn't much better. Now I'm on the fourth night with it and I have to say its comfortable. I'm keeping my topper on it and if I take it off its to firm for me. Its firm more than medium. Plus it doesn't sink at all now. Nor do I feel the springs, nearly as much as the first night but I can still feel them. Side note: The center is softer to sleep on than the sides. So that is a little odd to me. Its not consistent around the mattress and this is night 6. I have a king size bed and have normally always slept one side or the other but right now its strictly the middle. Firm in todays standards is more like sleeping on a board. 20 years ago firm is more like a medium in todays time. Will the mattress last ten years? I don't know about that but for the moment it will work for me. Now it is two weeks in to sleeping on this and I don't wake up in the night nor do I toss and turn all night but I wake each morning with the middle of my back slightly sore. I'm not sure if this will be good for the long term but for the moment its working. Would I buy it again? yes Would I recommend it? probably so. Size and weight do matter in mattress shopping. Would I buy it for my son? No because he has a 6k bed and would know the difference. EDIT: It's now been several months since I bought this. It's completely decompressed, and I love it. Legit its so comfortable I actually want to go to bed. I have left my topper on it and its perfect for me. If you like a firmer mattress, you don't need the topper, but my topper makes it kind of like a pillow top. I sleep like a baby. I also live in FL on the beach and even in the worse of the storms we have gotten this season I slept through every one of them. My neighbors look at me like I'm on crack when I told them I didn't wake. i think they are now concerned for me. Just saying. I'd definitely buy this again. ... show more

Over the course of a few years Iโ€™ve bought three of these mattresses. Needed to move across the country and sold/gave away the old one. Iโ€™ve used one for 2 years and had no issues, no soft spots or weird dips. I also rotated it maybe once. Theyโ€™re not perfect and you can hear noise from springs sometimes, and sitting on the edge isnโ€™t that comfortable, but if you find a better mattress for this price please let me know ... show more

Very pleased. Would really like to see the machine that vacuums that thing flat, because it shaped up to be as firm as I had hoped. That machine has to have some serious sucking power. If you like something that is super soft and squishy, it may not be the best for you, but it is exactly what I was looking for. I was skeptical about the mattress in a box thing. I just couldn't convince myself that something that had been vacuumed flat and rolled up could shape itself back into a quality mattress. I'm a believer now. I gave zero stars for pain relief because I am lucky enough to have no baseline pain for comparison. ... show more

The son that I bought this for is 6 ft 5 in and a typical twin bed was not long enough for him. I was kind of dubious about this purchase because it was not that much money for the mattress, and then it came completely vacuum sealed and rolled up in a small ish cardboard rectangular box. I thought I would never prefer this over my former tempur pedic. I decided to try this out based on the price, positive reviews, and the fact that it could just be a guest bed if I did not like it. There was an adjustment period, but now that I've gotten used to it, I love it! I like that it has firmness/support (especially on the edges of the bed, it's surprisingly supportive to sit on the edge), while also being soft to lay on. It just strikes a good balance, like laying on a cloud: contoured but not sinking. After sleeping on this bed for about 2 months, I had to sleep on my former tempur pedic last night, and I felt like it had too much "give" in some ways, so my body alignment was noticeably less ideal.
