  • Nice NAS, no problems
Style: 4-bay 4GB RAM Size: NAS
Use it for backing up all files since 1996. Will likely never access any of the archive except pictures. But nice to know everything is protected 4 different ways.

  • The device is fine but doesn't actually back up your computer
Style: 4-bay 4GB RAM Size: NAS
Firstly, I bought this on Black Friday from "Shop4Tele" and I beg you to not buy from them. It was a horrible experience. They promised 2 day shipping, but lost it the first time, then took 8 days to ship the second one. It's a miracle the 2nd got here without also disappearing because they ship in a box which clearly shows a picture of the expensive high-tech item inside. As for the NAS, I've not used one before, but consider myself very tech savvy. It has a ton of apps that you can download for free, but among them is not a program that will automatically backup a PC on your home network and save the backed up data to the NAS. You have to buy that separately. I was surprised that a backup solution didn't actually come with this. The disk management in it is great and it's fairly quiet. It also plays nicely with off-site backup. I'm currently syncing it with Backblaze for full redundancy. ... show more

  • Forget using QNAP Tech Support!
Style: 2-bay 4GB RAM Size: NAS
Emailing questions to QNAP Tech Support is a waste of time, in my opinion and experience. Their technical documentation explaining how their NAS OS is laid out, installed, how to access, how to modify, hidden partitions, how to add APPS to, in the words of Malaysian comedian Ronny Chieng: Sucks! The base scenario of usage for documentation examples should FOCUS on stand-alone private-class C local network operation & configurations targeted to promote such FOCUS, not the user beat-down with multiple NAS ops, Remote Connections, Internet access & and other Enterprise facets. Most Enterprises would choose a more robust model to invest in. Their Business Support was great! Shout Out to Roger Gonzales with Qnap in Pomona CA 91768 for his excellent business support during my purchasing of this product. The hardware I purchased, NAS TD-253D is SOLID, low powered and responsive. Has SAMBA server built-in for file sharing with Linux, Windows, Apple & NFS clients. This is a great NAS! Packed it with 2-16TB Seagate SATA III hard drives Raid 1 setup, 12GB RAM. Easy to establish dual Gb/s NIC teaming to double bandwidth, not speed, to and from the unit. OS & App software updates are very timely and so far have occurred without any issues I am aware of as of 15 Dec 21. I purchased the extended warranty out to 5 years from standard 3 years for only $99 US. Both Drives & NAS are now covered for 5 years. As long as you can handle discovering how to use the unit without Tech Support, I recommend this unit for home, or small business. If all else fails, it is easy to grab and save in case of disaster striking. Steven F. Sutherland. ... show more

  • Good product, good deal, and lots of fun
Style: 2-bay 4GB RAM Size: NAS
Read a lot of comparisons to Synology Diskstation. I used Synology for 10 years. It was pretty good, but I did not do much other than using it as storage and reverse proxy. Took a shot for the cheaper security camera licenses of what Qnap has. It is better than I expected. There are many reviews saying bad UIs. I think the UI is ok to me. Lots of fun with lots of configuration though I had to do lots of researches to make decisions on the configuration. I mainly use it for security cameras and video streaming. The memory upgrade was easy. Added one 16GB (Timetec Hynix IC) to make it 20GB with no issue. Did not do the PCIe SSD cache as I do not plan to run VMs. I found that there are very cheap PCIe cards that can work with NVMe m.2 memory. I might do it later. No need to buy the original expansion card. Really a better deal than Synology from a hardware standpoint. I guess I am a bit concern about security as it is more open to 3rd party software, and that could be riskier from a security standpoint. I would not put anything sensitive on NAS anyway. The best security is to keep things offline. Update: After 2 months, I found one problem that I do not like. With the cheap PCIe card for NVMe m.2 memory, I can only use the SSD as cache memory. I can not do Qtier. It is also not good as cache memory for write cache as it could fail before writing it to my HDD. This makes me believe now Synology might be a better option if you really want to have m.2 SSD because it is built-in for Synology NAS. Qnap is not cheaper if I need to buy the RAID PCIe card. Well, I guess I am still getting cheap security camera licenses. For this reason, I took out one star. ... show more
