  • Great NAS
Style: 4-bay 4GB RAM Size: NAS
The **QNAP TS‑453D‑4G** is an excellent NAS that has performed reliably and exceeded my expectations. Setup was straightforward, the interface is intuitive, and the system handles file storage, backups, and media streaming with ease. The hardware feels solid and responsive, and the Quad‑Core processor provides more than enough power for everyday NAS tasks. I’ve experienced no issues with performance, uptime, or accessibility. Overall, this is a great NAS solution for both home and small office use, and I’m very satisfied with its performance. ... show more

  • A Good NAS for A Small Office/Home Environment
Style: 4-bay 4GB RAM Size: NAS
I bought this NAS to replace a QNAP TS-451 mini NAS that was five years old and repeatedly showed a failed hard disk in slot 2 even when new HD's were inserted in that slot. I contacted QNAP Support and they said the backplane was faulty. When I received this new NAS unit, I moved the same drives in the TVS-451 over to the TS-453D and again I got a red failure light on slot 2. At that point I removed the drive in slot 2 and subjected it to a full system test using DriveDX. After several hours the test completed with no errors and no issues reported. I put this drive back into slot 2 and the new TS-453D immediately began rebuilding the raid. Since then I have had no further issues with the TS-453D or the hard drives in it. I suspect that there was nothing wrong with the older TS-451 and I have kept it as a backup NAS. I was not impressed with the lack of knowledge of the QNAP support person in this instance. I do find the TS-453D to be fast, quiet, well-but and so far reliable. I like the QTS software that QNAP uses for their NAS. ... show more

  • QNAP NAS Can Be Challenging for First Time Users to a NAS
Style: 6-bay 8GB RAM Size: NAS
Upgrading from a Western Digital (WD) NAS to QNAP was a bit of a learning curve for me. Fortunately, I have a determine drive to figure things out. I very much enjoyed my WD NAS for its simplicity of how to attach it to home router, create folders, load content and have it up and running in less than an hour. QNAP required more elbow grease, and sometimes a call to the help desk to get the system up and running. I didn’t find this NAS very intuitive at all when it came to creating folders, understanding what thin volume really was compared to the other volumes, etc. One of my biggest frustrations had to do with not being able to see thumbnail images of the media I loaded on the drives. I eventually learned from an Internet search that this was an often mention grief others had. Luckily, others much smarter than I discovered that downloading some file (name I don’t remember now) would resolve that problem, and it did. I’ve had the QNAP NAS for almost two years now. It is performing extremely well. As my media needs primary resolves around being able to view the content DLNA to various home devices, it has being doing a great job in accomplishing that need. I probably know about 10% of its capabilities, with keeping up with its security features to prevent any Internet intrusion into NAS foremost in that 10% knowledge. ... show more

  • Great device for data storage and other functions
Style: 4-bay 4GB RAM Size: NAS
I'm an IT person. I use this as a destination for the daily backup of my main computer's data drive and it runs my pihole (network ad and web site blocker). It also holds a monthly image backup of my PC - just the operating system. You can choose various RAID levels (hard drive redundancy modes) to help protect your data. But RAID is NOT protection against everything. For my small business customers, I use these as centralized file servers for small offices. However you use it, I have to point out something that another 1 star reviewer complained about. They had lost everything due to a hack. First, do NOT expose this product to the internet. Any device exposed to the internet is at risk. Second, you must have backup if you store your data on these devices. It should be something off site - cloud backup. Even if you use RAID (redundant) disk drives, it is NOT a substitute for having a backup of your data somewhere that is NOT on this device. I would say the same thing if you store your data on your PC. Finally, I would caution people that these devices are much more complicated than setting up your average router. The user interface is very easy, but there are lots of things to configure - network config/users/passwords/shared folders/anti-virus/backup, etc. You can even run a virtual PC inside this device - Windows or Linux. ... show more

  • Forget using QNAP Tech Support!
Style: 2-bay 4GB RAM Size: NAS
Emailing questions to QNAP Tech Support is a waste of time, in my opinion and experience. Their technical documentation explaining how their NAS OS is laid out, installed, how to access, how to modify, hidden partitions, how to add APPS to, in the words of Malaysian comedian Ronny Chieng: Sucks! The base scenario of usage for documentation examples should FOCUS on stand-alone private-class C local network operation & configurations targeted to promote such FOCUS, not the user beat-down with multiple NAS ops, Remote Connections, Internet access & and other Enterprise facets. Most Enterprises would choose a more robust model to invest in. Their Business Support was great! Shout Out to Roger Gonzales with Qnap in Pomona CA 91768 for his excellent business support during my purchasing of this product. The hardware I purchased, NAS TD-253D is SOLID, low powered and responsive. Has SAMBA server built-in for file sharing with Linux, Windows, Apple & NFS clients. This is a great NAS! Packed it with 2-16TB Seagate SATA III hard drives Raid 1 setup, 12GB RAM. Easy to establish dual Gb/s NIC teaming to double bandwidth, not speed, to and from the unit. OS & App software updates are very timely and so far have occurred without any issues I am aware of as of 15 Dec 21. I purchased the extended warranty out to 5 years from standard 3 years for only $99 US. Both Drives & NAS are now covered for 5 years. As long as you can handle discovering how to use the unit without Tech Support, I recommend this unit for home, or small business. If all else fails, it is easy to grab and save in case of disaster striking. Steven F. Sutherland. ... show more
