The range of sizes for knife placement allows me to keep all the range of my knives, from vegetable cleaver down to paring knife in an easy to store, easy to carry, easy to use holder. The 18" slicer is pushing the bounds of what can be stored in this, but still fits in securely under the flap. When rolled up and fastened, it feels like the knives will be securely held in place as I move around. When putting knives into the roll, I hear occasional "snagging" as the pointed end of the blade goes into the pocket. I'm not sure if that is just because the fabric is new, or because I am cutting through fibers every time I put a knife in there. There is a stitched-on seam wrap all around, but my longer knives (especially my 9" boning knife) reach all the way to the end of the roll, and I am a little concerned they may poke through if I am not super careful when putting them away. It would be nice if there was a pocket on the outside for things like my chain mail glove, but that does neatly roll up inside the knife roll, so I'll never end up somewhere with my knives but no protection.

I have multiple sets of knives and always seem to be adding to my collection. This bag is an excellent means of storing some of them and taking them with you on the road. Each "pocket has two slots, one on top of the other that is slightly shorter, so this holds twenty total. Overall is is tough and well sewn together of a thick nylon material. I wish the slots were a little deeper for some of my longer blades and I'd be more comfortable if the bottoms of the slots where the tip of the knife sits had some reinforcement, just in case. Small criticisms aside, I am very happy with this unique and useful product.
