  • Box was beat up, but the boombox is great!
Color: Red
Don't go expecting to blast or make big booms from this radio and you won't be disappointed. If you want an affordable retro radio that plays music loud enough in a moderate sized room to be annoying to your parents, spouse, or dogs and cats, then this is for you. I have used the radio (FM) and the Bluetooth and have nothing bad to say about either. Oh yeah, one thing it has that wasn't clear to me when buying it: it does have a 110AC plug in that comes with it, aside from the option of using the 4 D batteries it does mention. Reception of FM sigal is very good with the antenna deployed or not. When it arrived (via the Amazon van) the box had been beaten up and taped together. I wasn't happy about that, but the good news was that the radio was not broken in any way inside or out. ... show more

  • QFX Radio so many options for the value. Absolutely! love it.
Color: Black
I’m absolutely! In love with the QFX radio, and the value. The quality of the radio, and sound is amazing. I love the nostalgia, and how it’s also modern. The portability, and ease of use. The QFX radio has so many options for the value, and it brings back memories. The QFX radio was packaged very carefully, and delivered very quickly. The battery life is long lasting, it has three ways of use (rechargeable battery, a power chord to plug into an outlet, or you can use batteries so you’re never out of power. ... show more

  • Recording Functions are Basically Useless
Color: Black
Short version: If you're thinking about purchasing this for it's recording function, don't. The recording function does not work by any acceptable standard. Longer version: I bought this specifically for it's recording function. After fruitlessly scouring Amazon trying to find a tape recorder/player that would allow me to line-in audio to record onto tape, I eventually settled on this, because it had the next best thing: recording from bluetooth. This unit (as well as it's manual) claim that you can record bluetooth input the same as you would record from the radio. I used to record from the radio all the time as a kid on my old (sadly lost) boombox. SO this seemed an acceptable alternative. To say the results were unfavorable would be a gross understatement. Bluetooth playing through the speakers was fine, but the recording sounded like total garbage. It was quiet, garbled, and full of tape hiss. This radio gets LOUD, but if I took the recording I got and cranked it all the way, it was still awful and quiet. I don't know how to better describe it, but it was pointless. It just doesn't record properly. Thoughts on the rest of the unit: The unit itself is not of great build quality. I expected that. Though if you want to know what I mean, it is cheap plastic mostly. Feels like might almost break it by operating it. The buttons actually squeak when you press them. Tape player: Aside from the inability to record - the tape player is fairly functional. I tested it with a Stone Temple Pilots tape I had, and it seemed to be slow on first play. It was the middle of the tape, so I rewound it to the beginning. By the way, rewind is sloooow. Anyhow, hit play, and it actually sounded pretty good. And seemed to work fine. Not sure if the initial slowness was the player or me not remembering how the song sounded. But once I rewound and played from beginning everything sounded alright... gets me to.... Sound quality. I noticed a lot of folks on here complain about it. I mean, they are cheap speakers, so you get what you pay for, but it has an eq, and with a little adjustment, I feel like I got decent sound out of it. If you're looking for booming bass -- probably not happening-- but for rock music, it sounded good to me. Blue tooth - Worked for me just fine. Flipped it to BT mode and paired with my phone no problem. Sound quality was as described above. Radio - only had the radio on for half a sec as I was flipping the switch. It happened to be on a station and sounded decent to me. I did not intentionally attempt to tune into anything, so how strong the receiver, etc. are, I have no clue. Only had it on FM. Can't speak at all to AM or short wave capabilities. MP3 playing - appeared to play MP3s from USB or SD card. I don't know who still plays MP3s vs streaming or going back to physical media, but okay. I didn't test cause I don't have a drive or SD card with MP3 floating around. Convert to MP3 - Also did not test, but based on how terrible the tape recording was, I don't have a ton of confidence about it. TL;DR: If you want to record to tape, do not get this unit. If you don't mind the lackluster build quality, this could be a serviceable tape player/radio/bluetooth speaker. For me, the search continues. ... show more

  • It will do what I want.
Color: Black
Good: 1. Very loud at maximum volume. I have poor hearing so the radio might be far to loud at maximum volume for some unless used outside. 2. Instructions in English, French, and Spanish. (More in bad) 3. Four radio bands: FM, AM, Short Wave 1, and Short Wave 2. 4. Tape deck sounds good, not great, but good. Does not compare well to a dedicated tape deck from a sound system if one of those can still be found for less than 3 or 4 thousand dollars. So I consider it good. 5. Three band equalizer. I do not know if this is standard on a boom box but this is my first none audiophile equipment other than a pocket radio. 6. 3.5 mm tip, ring, sleeve (TRS) stereo headphones jack. At full volume, I was able to hear from over 10' away (tinny but that would be expected from that distance through a headset speaker. May damage headsets speaker at full volume. 7. 110 volt/220 volt alternating current switch for AC outlet cord. 8. AC outlet cord connection can be used. (More in bad). National Electrical Manufacturer's Association (NEMA) 5-15 2 pole (no ground required unless you get a weird cord that has some electronics built into it). Please not the power cord is stored for shipping in the battery compartment. 9. 6V DC power can be supplied, amperage unknown. (More in bad). Bad: 1. I presume the batteries it uses are D-cells. I have not used in a very long time so possibly C-cells. 2. The DC power cord is not included. I am not sure which you should be using. If you wish to use the DC power connection, I would recommend contacting the vendor or manufacturer. 2. Tiny on the instruction sheet. I could read most with my reading glasses but had to get a x10 (yes 10) powered magnifying glass for a some. I was then able to determine that part of the instructions on the English language sheet were in French and part were in Spanish. Once this was identified I was able to read all the image except a few of the numbers with just my reading glasses. 3. Image listing what is where is in black and white. The lines showing where things are on the image are in the same exact shade of black. For things on the edge of the image the lines are adequate. For things that are in the middle of the image, one must look at where the lines are pointing and look on the actual radio for something along that direction. 4. The numbers for the for each item on the image are extremely small. A few can be read with my reading glasses but several required the magnifying glass. Comment about the instructions: 1. The instructions are on two sided paper with each side as 3 panels. The instructions would have been much better if it were on a longer sheet and arranged into a total of 6 panels of the same width and a 7th panel that is the size of two of the other panels. This would allow for a much larger image of the boombox with bigger numbers. 2. Where to lines leading to parts of the boom box cross over the boombox, they should be in a different shade of black, or possibly should be white to allow them to be traced to the part indicated. 3. For some reason on one side of the instructions at the bottom they printed everything in English, French, and Spanish, even though they provide 3 instruction sheets, one in English, one in French, and one in Spanish. Why they printed did this I cannot imagine. Had they not, they could have easily increased the size of the image with the various parts indicated. Other features listed I have not tested nor probably will: Plugging in a USB drive to play with I presume .mp3 formatted music. Plugging in a SD drive to play music. Converting music on cassette tapes to .mp3 format. Recording tapes. Final words: It appears it will do very well for my purposes. I can not recommend or suggest bad as I have no other experience to compare with. I expect I will be happy with this purchase. ... show more
