I like this thing so much that I’m leaving my first review. I listen to and collect tapes and records and I have gone through 30 to 42 players trying to find one that works right of course I wanted to get an old-school 90s early 2000s tape player, but every time I did, they would either not work right away or they would slowly break and half the time they would destroy my tapes in the process so finally I caved and I bought the modern replica of the old school boombox and honestly I wish I would’ve done it sooner. Now the sound isn’t incredible on this thing but it’s small and it sounds good enough for what it is. And when I’m home, I plug it straight from the aux jack into my Home sound system, and it sounds incredible. Can also plug it from the aux into my car sound system while I’m driving and it sounds great place through tapes wonderfully the radio works great. The Bluetooth works great. And I’m also making mixed tapes now because I can record straight from my YouTube via Bluetooth onto a blank tape Which I didn’t even think about when I bought this thing but now that I have it I’m really happy that I’m able to make mixed tape. My only complaint is how slowly it takes to open and that’s just because it makes me feel like I have to force it open and close, which feels like it will probably be bad for it in the long run. My other complaint is that if you leave it on fast-forward over wine, it doesn’t stop unless you make it stop, I wish it would just stop and the button would go up when the tape was finished, but it doesn’t and it keeps trying to rewind, which can actually mess up a tape so be careful and don’t walk away when you hit rewind Besides that and so far this thing is great. I bring it onto my construction site. I bring it camping and it’s held up really well so far granite I’ve only had it for a month, but I have high hopes. ... show more

  • Great tool for visiting the past
Color: Black
I needed to convert an old cassette tape into modern format and this thing did the trick. I had all these elaborate plans of getting a cassette player and pressing play and getting my laptop to record it into Audacity, converting the wav file to mp3, etc. etc. but all that was unnecessary since this does direct conversion to MP3. The instructions were complete, but a little hard to follow. However, once you actually try it, it's pretty simple. The MP3 file sounded good, and the cassette sounded good through the boom box speakers. I was pleasantly surprised that the tuner for the AM and FM bands worked very well with the stock antenna and sounded great. The Shortwave bands, not so much. I didn't try it with a long wire antenna or anything, so that didn't surprise me. Overall design and style was well thought out and the quality was good. The price was lower than other cassette player options and it worked perfectly for my needs. ... show more

  • Very Impressed. It's the 80's again.
Color: Black
This mini boom box is awesome for it's size. Although the bass is not the greatest it's not bad. The three band eq helps a lot.Superb mid range and treble. I haven't tried the cassette yet but the mp3 works fine. just wish it would tell you was track your were playing. The radio picks up well and overall the unit has a lot of volume. Also the built in battery works great. Used the MP3 for 8 hours and it worked fine. A quick note though. Don't put "D" batteries in it and plug it in. The unit tries to charge the batteries and they get hot. Just use the built in rechargeable battery. it works fine and only takes about 4 hours to charge up. I give it 4.8 only because of the bass. ... show more

  • Recording Functions are Basically Useless
Color: Black
Short version: If you're thinking about purchasing this for it's recording function, don't. The recording function does not work by any acceptable standard. Longer version: I bought this specifically for it's recording function. After fruitlessly scouring Amazon trying to find a tape recorder/player that would allow me to line-in audio to record onto tape, I eventually settled on this, because it had the next best thing: recording from bluetooth. This unit (as well as it's manual) claim that you can record bluetooth input the same as you would record from the radio. I used to record from the radio all the time as a kid on my old (sadly lost) boombox. SO this seemed an acceptable alternative. To say the results were unfavorable would be a gross understatement. Bluetooth playing through the speakers was fine, but the recording sounded like total garbage. It was quiet, garbled, and full of tape hiss. This radio gets LOUD, but if I took the recording I got and cranked it all the way, it was still awful and quiet. I don't know how to better describe it, but it was pointless. It just doesn't record properly. Thoughts on the rest of the unit: The unit itself is not of great build quality. I expected that. Though if you want to know what I mean, it is cheap plastic mostly. Feels like might almost break it by operating it. The buttons actually squeak when you press them. Tape player: Aside from the inability to record - the tape player is fairly functional. I tested it with a Stone Temple Pilots tape I had, and it seemed to be slow on first play. It was the middle of the tape, so I rewound it to the beginning. By the way, rewind is sloooow. Anyhow, hit play, and it actually sounded pretty good. And seemed to work fine. Not sure if the initial slowness was the player or me not remembering how the song sounded. But once I rewound and played from beginning everything sounded alright... gets me to.... Sound quality. I noticed a lot of folks on here complain about it. I mean, they are cheap speakers, so you get what you pay for, but it has an eq, and with a little adjustment, I feel like I got decent sound out of it. If you're looking for booming bass -- probably not happening-- but for rock music, it sounded good to me. Blue tooth - Worked for me just fine. Flipped it to BT mode and paired with my phone no problem. Sound quality was as described above. Radio - only had the radio on for half a sec as I was flipping the switch. It happened to be on a station and sounded decent to me. I did not intentionally attempt to tune into anything, so how strong the receiver, etc. are, I have no clue. Only had it on FM. Can't speak at all to AM or short wave capabilities. MP3 playing - appeared to play MP3s from USB or SD card. I don't know who still plays MP3s vs streaming or going back to physical media, but okay. I didn't test cause I don't have a drive or SD card with MP3 floating around. Convert to MP3 - Also did not test, but based on how terrible the tape recording was, I don't have a ton of confidence about it. TL;DR: If you want to record to tape, do not get this unit. If you don't mind the lackluster build quality, this could be a serviceable tape player/radio/bluetooth speaker. For me, the search continues. ... show more
