  • Highly recommend
Very rich sound for such small speakers, even at high volume. Pair them with a good receiver though. In a smaller space I might try the 3" (or 3.5") version of these. Highly recommend.

  • Nice for the price
Nice small size, and decent sound; It's not going to win any prizes for bass, but it's definitely a good value for the money.

  • Be sure this is all you want
I bought the slightly larger version with a 4" full-range woofer rather than the 3". I'm using them as surround channels for a 5.1 setup. They were essentially a little Christmas gift to myself. On a whim I decided to find something basic and affordable (under $50) to add that surround sound dimensionality to my home theater setup. After looking at the handful of options available (I could only find about 10) I felt like this would probably be the best bang for my buck. I can't compare them to other small speakers like the Micca Covo because I haven't auditioned those, but I can say these are basically a "you get what you pay for" situation. At $37/pair as of this writing (with a "used - like new" option available for $23) it's pretty hard to be disappointed with them as long as they work, and they do. They are pretty lacking in bass (but there's a hint of it), and due to the lack of a tweeter, they don't have the same clarity or resolution of my front channel Wharfedale 225's. That said, those are $350/pair so these lil' guys were literally a tenth of the price. Wharfedale would have a problem on their hands (as would every speaker manufacturer) if these kept up with something 10x the cost. Anyway, I know they wouldn't be on par with my other speakers when I got them, but what I didn't realize was that it'd be juuust noticeable and obvious enough to send me on a quest to upgrade them. Right now I'm looking at options like the Micca MB42X: basically this in a more solid cabinet and with a tweeter for about $50 more. I say all that to say, I'm not disappointed with these because it's basically what I expected: a 4" woofer in a plastic cabinet which performs like a 4" woofer in a plastic cabinet. Considering the size of it and the fact that this one woofer is tasked with covering everything from the lowest lows to the highest highs without the help of a tweeter, I think it performs admirably. So if you *just* want some sort of sound coming from your surround channels to turn your 3.1 setup into a 5.1 setup, these will do the job and will do so for less than $40 which is the home theatre equivalent of an impulse purchase. From that perspective, these are maybe the biggest upgrade you can add to a home theatre for so little money. For me, personally, I think I should have been a bit less frugal from the start and made my budget "under $100" instead of "under $50" because I already have the itch to upgrade them to, at the bare minimum, something with a tweeter. I didn't appreciate how much I would notice the lack of one in a surround channel, but I do. ... show more

  • Good sound, small package
These are amazing little speakers! We are using them for our main TV and it's doing the trick, and they're pretty incognito. Our living area is open, about 25 x 25 or so, with these speakers by the TV, and remote speakers in the back of the room for the dining area. Good sound from such a small speaker, overall happy with them. ... show more

  • Bargain priced dynamic sound
Skeptical of these with such a low price, but only needed them for an old school garage stereo system. To my surprise these little buggers crank out some volume and with great sound clarity. Probably not ideal for today’s hip-hop heavy base music, but for 70’s rock & 80’s new wave these little speakers do very nicely. Easy to hook up and outstanding value for the price. ... show more

  • Great sound a this price range
Great sound a this price range. I needed replacement for broken smallish bookshelf speakers that can take 100W and had decent sound but at a reasonable price because I plan to upgrade whole system soon. These did the trick

  • Speakers received damaged - outer packaging OK
When received, one of the two speakers had something really heavy rattling around inside the plastic enclosure, and did not work at all. The second one had what sounded like shards of plastic rattling around. The outer (Amazon) packaging was not damaged at all, so i conclude that the mounting of some heavy component inside the plastic cabinet is not very robust. I did get to play some classical music with the one functioning speaker, but, i wouldn't call it hi fi. It will serve the purpose, namely as a pair of under cabinet speakers in the kitchen for a Rocketfish wireless setup, but I certainly wouldn't bother to use these in my 5.1 surround setup. I asked for an exchange from Amazon, and will return the broken ones shortly, but, after reading similar experience reported by another reviewer, i am not too confident that the results will be much different. I should have read the reviews first, before ever ordering the product. ... show more

  • About what you should expect
I build my own home speakers, so I purchased these strictly to use as a "test bed" for various drivers. Basically I'll disassemble them, take out the driver Pyle has in there now and replace it with other drivers that I'm interested in evaluating (that's a lot faster and easier then building your own test cabinets). I did, however, run them for a few hours before they were "sacrificed". Obviously you can forget bass. The size of the driver and cabinet precludes even the slightest pretense at bass, but I imagine there's no one foolish enough to think otherwise. The midrange has decent presence, but surprisingly the treble is weak. Bear in mind I only ran them for 10 hours (maybe even less) so that might have improved over time -- as speakers are wont to do -- but I was a little surprised how lacking it was. There wasn't much in the way of sizzle. Considering there's a whizzer cone, which is specifically designed to focus the high frequencies and aid in their disbursement, I would have thought the top end of the frequency spectrum would have been a bit more pronounced then it turned out to be. Maybe with more time on them it would have been, but I can't say for certain. Bottom line is these are probably exactly what you think they are, based upon the price; small, inexpensive, non-hi fidelity speakers used for near-field listening. Temper your expectations and they should be fine. ... show more
