  • I love these irons!
The clubs themselves are very attractive and correspond perfectly with the photos in the description. As you would expect from anything manufactured by PXG, the construction appears to be of the very highest quality. I got mine with steel shafts in Regular flex and I'm including a photo of one of the shafts. I have been playing golf for a very long time and used to be a single digit handicapper until about 20 years ago, at which point my skills embarked on a steady and precipitous decline owing to nagging injuries coupled with a steadfast refusal to ever go to the range. I figured that I would try these clubs, which are clearly advertised as Game Improvement (GI) clubs targeted for beginners and people who aren't very good at golf. One aspect of most GI clubs is that the lofts are stronger than regular clubs so that, right out of the box without changing anything, you will now hit your 7 iron as far as your old 6 iron. That's because you now have a 6 iron that is just labeled as a 7 iron. PXG is completely upfront about this by posting the lofts in the fourth picture of the item description. Here are the lofts of the PXG's compared to my four year old Srixon ZX5 set (designed for medium to good players) and my twenty plus year old Ping S59 set (aimed at very good players). PXG ZX5 s59 2 Iron 18.5° 3 Iron 20° 21° 4 Iron 18° 22° 23.8° 5 Iron 20° 24° 27° 6 Iron 23° 27° 30.5° 7 Iron 27° 31° 34.3° 8 Iron 31° 35° 38.3° 9 Iron 36° 39° 42.5° PW 41° 44° 47° As you can see, the PXG's are about one club stronger than the ZX5 set and even stronger lofted than the old Pings. This has left a big loft gap between the PW and my next club, which is a 50 degree gap wedge. I'll probably solve this by buying a PXG 47 degree gap wedge. and ditching my 50 degree. I don't know whether it's the design or the look of these clubs, but they just inspire confidence when you stand over them. I wouldn't even think about carrying a 3 iron any more, but I am crushing this 5 iron high and straight while trying to ignore the fact that it has the same loft as the Srixon 3 iron. These clubs get up in the air fast and stay there for a while. I am hitting the 5 iron about as long as my 4 Rescue, so I took it out of the bag. I've even had success with the 4 iron, although I now wish that I ordered a 5-GW set. So, to net it out, I'm hitting the same lofts with these clubs farther than the same lofts with the Srixons. I used to hit a 6 iron 150 and now I hit a 7 iron (same loft) farther than that. It's fun to misclub yourself by hitting it too far. I've played 2 rounds with these clubs and have been hitting into greens with irons where I would almost always have been forced to whip off a head cover and use a rescue, which is depressing. You do not get the feedback or workability of non-GI clubs, but I don't care because the feedback was usually something along the line of "you hit that very poorly". I love these clubs and would recommend them to golfers who have been playing for a long time and experiencing a loss of distance, which leads to a loss of confidence. I can't wait to play again with this set of irons. ... show more
