  • improved my game
Hand Orientation: GEN6 XP Chrome Right Shaft Material: Steel Flex: Stiff Configuration: 4-PW, GW
After a few rounds with these clubs, which I haven't even fitted yet, and I know I really like them. The design took a bit to take to, feeling very modern with numerous angles and facets. But they look good when addressing the ball, and its large club face gives me more confidence that I'll actually hit the ball. What really made me a fan is how it feels when striking the ball and the performance. There's that buttery smooth click when hitting it true. And even on mis-hits, it's more forgiving on my hands, damping the worst of the shock and vibration. The distances are about one club length better than my old set, so it took a bit of time to adjust my game play. My 8 iron used to be my 145 yard club, but I now use the 9 iron. The ball definitely rolls more, so I will sometimes even drop 2 clubs for that extra 10 yard roll. I was worried that this set didn't come with a 3 iron as that was my 190 yard club, but the 4 iron in this set easily fills that role. My handicap is 36, so stringing 2 solid iron shots back to back was rare. I'm regularly doing that now with these irons. In fact, on shorter par 4's, I'm opting to tee off with an iron instead of a driver or wood as these are more consistent while giving me more than enough distance to reach the green on the second shot. The only times I didn't get on the green was because the second shot was TOO long - I'm still dialing in the right distances. Honestly, these are very expensive clubs, almost $200 an iron. And I seriously would never have considered that kind of investment in a new brand using new tech. I guess that's why Amazon has the Vine program, so regular people can try and test new products. And I'm still unsure if I would spend this much since I only play a few rounds a year and my handicap has never improved in over 20 years of trying. But for younger folks who have aspirations of golf greatness, the PXG brand and this set of irons is definitely something you should consider. Then again, would you take advice from a 36 handicap golfer? Well, I know it makes me enjoy golf more and it is saving me a few strokes (PER HOLE!), which is worth at least one grain of salt. If I find that these truly are improving my game over time, then I will seriously consider the driver and woods, which are the siren calls in my golf game, constantly drawing my golf balls into the deep, dark woods of oblivion. ... show more

  • Feel great, very long
Hand Orientation: GEN6 XP Chrome Right Shaft Material: Steel Flex: Stiff Configuration: 4-PW, GW
For reference, I play Titleist T200 with stiff steel shafts. My first impression of the XPs are that they are a game improvement club but they don't look as unwieldy as some other clubs in that category. The top line isn't massive, which is good. The sole isn't obnoxiously wide, either. I really like the setup and look of the clubs at address. What I don't like are the shafts. After trying a few PXGs, I will say that PXG give "vanity" ratings to their shaft stiffness. PXG stiff is Titleist/TM/Callaway regular. The shafts are also very light at 95g, which makes them a heavier swing weight than my preference. The shafts also have a high kick point, which isn't great for someone who swings as hard as I do. If you have a long, smooth swing PXG shaft choice might work well. For me, they cause a slice vs. an expected fade. As for numbers, these are impressive. While the 4-8 are 1 degree stronger than my T200s, they flew about 10 yards further. Ball speed was up a few mph, and spin was a little lower. My 7-iron spin is normally 6200-6400, and the PXGs were around 5600. They also went pretty straight when you tried to swing 85%-90%. Should I think about doing that all the time? Probably, but where is the fun in that? Overall, if you're slowing down a little or have a long, smooth swing, these PXGs will probably serve you well. I'd like to try their player's clubs in a heavier shaft to see how they perform. My guess is they would be great. ... show more

  • An Absolute Pleasure To Use
Hand Orientation: GEN6 XP Chrome Right Shaft Material: Steel Flex: Stiff Configuration: 4-PW, GW
I’ve been using this set of golf clubs for right at a month now, and they have not only met my expectations, they have exceeded my expectations. I ordered the steel/stiff version of these clubs, and they are a joy to use. They play awesome and they look pretty darn nice too. This set of irons is definitely up there with some of the best clubs I’ve ever used. Like I said, they’re a joy to use, and there’s simply nothing about them that I can justifiably complain about. I mean, I guess I *could* complain about the price of these clubs, but in reality, the price isn’t actually out of line with comparable quality sets from the other high-end brands. And, as the saying goes – you get what you pay for. So, if you’re looking for a new set of irons, I think you will be hard pressed to find a set that you will like more than these. Which shouldn’t be surprising because I have never met anyone while playing golf that didn’t like PXG clubs. And that’s because it’s readily apparent that PXG takes great pride in the design and construction of their clubs. If you have any questions about this set of PXG GEN6 XP irons, please feel free to ask, and I'll try my best to answer. I hope you found this review helpful. ... show more
