  • Solid quality, easy to assemble
This pergola was relatively simple to assemble, is sturdy and looks great. Has stood up well to some really strong wind recently. It’s helpful if you have two or more people to assemble at certain points, but was easy to put together on my own for the most part. Customer service is also very responsive and helpful! Definitely recommend. ... show more

  • Nice pergola but needs help
Size: 10' X 13' Color: Turquoise Blue Top & Gray Curtain
I received my pergola within a week of ordering. The shipping box was intact but is awkward and heavy, close to 100lb and near 6ft long. A two person job to move around, at least for me. All the individual parts were packed well, present and undamaged. Start to finish the ordering process was excellent. I had read from other reviews that the main knock on this product was its relative instability once assembled. I agree, "flimsy" is the word that comes to mind, and I am guessing that as designed this pergola wouldn't survive high winds. Knowing this going in, I had already decided that I was going to make some modifications. I'm fortunate, I've been a woodworker my whole life so the modifications I made were easy for me, but they could be made by anyone with some basic carpentry skills and a couple of hand tools (skill saw, sander). To help stabilize the pergola I added mass (weight) to the legs. As it turns out the square leg tubes are nearly the perfect size to slide over a stock 4 x 4 post. I bought two 4 x 4 x 8ft posts and cut them in half giving me four 4ft lengths. I had to shave just a little off the sides of the posts to allow them to slide freely inside the legs. This accomplished two things: it added a fair amount of weight to the lower part of the pergola which made it much more stable and... it provided a way to level the pergola. It's not uncommon for concrete patios (if they are attached to the house) to be poured with a slight slope. This is to drain water away from the foundation, which is fine except that since the patio is not level the pergola won't sit level (to the horizon). By adding the 4 x 4 posts I was able to adjust each leg individually and level everything out. I used wood screws and the existing holes where the foot pads were suppose to mount once you get everything nice and level. I did use the foot pads that came with the pergola but had to cut the mounting tabs off and drill holes in the plates so I could screw them onto the bottom of the 4 x 4s. These simple mods worked perfect, all this extra weight made a huge difference in the stability of the pergola and it now sits perfectly level. The one thing I wish they would have supplied (and why I didn't rate it 5 stars) are some metal angle brackets on the top corners to help with twisting and swaying. That will be the next project. The instructions were fine, the holes all lined up well enough. It took my daughter and me 4 hours start to finish to install. The sun shade slides fine but the clips they supply to hold it in the extended position are a joke. They don't hold well and they are 8ft off the ground. Unless you're extremely tall you'll need a latter every time you use them. I'd buy this pergola again but without the modifications I don't know how long it would last. ... show more

  • No buyers' remorse
We love this pergola. Considered giving it a 4.5 because of the time it took us to put it together, but in the end we have been very proud of our "creation" or "project" and just overall pleased with the results. The pros+ Delivered to our door in a reasonably sized box that could be carried by two people (65 + 68) All parts arrived in the box. All parts in good shape--maybe a couple of scratches here or there, but nothing major and no dents. All parts clearly labelled and pictured in the manual--though one part was mislabeled, we could figure it out from the picture. No big deal. Like the color. The material--äh--relatively thin metal, but nicely coated and sturdy once everything is properly fitted together and stabilized. Caution is advised however during assembly, because parts can bend or dent. -Hiccups: The total time it took for us to get it together and really finished. (Hours...) The biggest bugbear was fitting on the awning. we had a helluva time figuring out which way it was supposed to be attached. And by the end of the several hours it took for us to assemble on the first day, we said to hell with it, fixed a couple of margaritas and decided to correct everything the next day. No use in getting upset about it. (And it did turn out nicely once we corrected "our" mistake--the drawing of the awning needed some figuring out.) Yes, it definitely takes two to tango with this one. Not only for lifting, but for fitting together and stabilizing parts while assembling. One of the greatest helpful hints that we read somewhere in all of the other reviews (and we read MANY of them before we bought this baby) was: WHEN YOU SCREW IN THE SCREWS TO EACH SECTION, GET ALL OF YOUR SCREWS IN THE HOLES BEFORE YOU TIGHTEN THEM. In a few places, on a few parts the screw holes simply did not line up properly if you tightened one screw first and then attended to the others. It also helped to stick in a screwdriver to use as a lever to help align the holes. ? We'll see: The item is fairly lightweight considering the windy area we live in, so we figured we needed to secure it, but didn't want to drill into our cement patio pad, so we did 2 things to secure the piece: 1) used 15 lb velcro strips to secure two poles butted up to the fascia of our eaves. 2) put the outer two poles--including the flat 7" sq bottom bases into two pretty Mexican clay pots and filled the pots with pea gravel. (Maybe I'll add some succulent plants in there) Those suckers are not going to move unless we have tornado winds, in which case the rest of the house would go with it, too. We'll see about how to deal with rain and a folded up canopy. I will have to figure out how to sew a protective cover to keep out water and dirt when we close the canopy and don't use it for longer periods. Also, need to figure out a way to unhitch the metal bar from the two clasps that hold the front side of the canopy open and intact. So far we need to get on a step ladder to do that--just pulling on the webbed loop/handle doesn't do it. Hope these comments help. Bottom line is, we're pleased with what we got for the money, time and effort and--so far--no buyers' remorse! ... show more

Not very sturdy we had to secure it to the ground. But it looks good considering the poles were bent when they got here.

  • Does not hold up to any wind
Product was easy to assemble, just takes awhile. However, the product top was completely destroyed by 15mph winds. Lasted about 3 weeks.

  • Good purchase for the price!

The media could not be loaded. Pool Pergola… put in pots with egg rocks to add stability. Very practical affordable pergola from Purple Leaf. Typical stuff some holes little off made it work. Some holes not threaded correctly made it work. If not for those couple items I’d have given it 5 stars….Looks good!! ... show more
